- Vincent van Gogh once said that arranging colours in a painting is like designing jewels or costumes. He loved using bright and bold colours, and his famous sunflower paintings wouldn’t have been possible without new, vibrant paints like chrome yellow, invented in the 19th century. Van Gogh painted four sunflower still-lifes, including two you can see today: one in Munich and one in London. Even though people back then thought his art was too unusual, Van Gogh never stopped painting in his own way, believing that true artists should love nature and teach others how to see its beauty.
