  • A quick guide for most aspects of drawing the human shoulder area. No longer will your characters be confined to having their arms pinned to their sides. Let those arms fly free.
Let me know what part of the human anatomy you would like to see more information on drawing! Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Sinix, could you do a chest/neck painting when you can? I really struggle with that, even having various photo references. Your tips really helped me right when I started watching your videos. You're one of my favorite artists. I admire your work so much, the way you paint, the colors you pick!

I can't understand one thing - your blending. Maybe it's your brush (or just Painter in general) but for me it takes hours and hours of achieving good blending. Is it likely that we will see a blending tutorial (not too sped up though) about blending?

the dry brush imitates a brush loaded with color that when empty can still be leveraged to push around pigment for blending/gradient "modeling" of color.
( in the same way with the dry brush, when the color empties from the stroke...
if you do not lift up your pen/mouse then you can leverage the brush to mix colors already applied )
He demonstrates his technique in the "painting like a sculptor video". Where he not only achieves soft blends...
But also uses this technique to "cut in" hard edges with the dry brush for both hard edges and soft modeling.
      this one:

He uses Corel in that video but viewer "IceDrop" shared a nice tip in the comments for similar functionality in Photoshop:
      Quote "
For Photoshop users: One thing I do that kind of achieves a similar result. Set up the mixer brush tool so that it only blends and doesn't pick up paint, assign it to the N key or whatever. Then use any old rectangular/flat brush and keep it super opaque. When painting, use the opaque brush for laying down planes/hard edges (like in the video) and quickly switch with 'N' to blend what you need. Just keep switching between the B and N keys while painting.
      "
      .

Honestly, I recommend using a larger brush. I use basic flow 3 on krita and that works the best for me. Use larger shapes first and then layer it on

The best way I know is to learn the origin, insertion and action of every muscle individually (I am doing that now with the shoulder muscles), and then to simplify them in your drawings.

Your 'Anatomy Quick Tips' videos are very helpful. Can you also do one on hair? I personally feel that hair is a part of the body that can be difficult to figure out how to draw. There are so many differences in hair and details to portray that make it a challenge to depict it in an accurate & believable way.

he meant the simple hinge rotation constant he was using ( although that also includes a clavicle consideration beginning at the point where the arm rotates above the shoulder )...
In comparison to the ball rotation complexity madness that would be possible with shoulder joints in tandem with scapula and clavicle rotation contribution offsets.
