@@machinech183to be fair, people are complaining about right things: optimization is bad, AI is janky, camera movement is weird, water system needs to be overhauled because rn it's too easy to get and too unfair to lose. These all are legitimate reasons to be upset. On the other hand, the reason WHY the game is as it is explains and justifies everything, especially considering that such early access has already helped to pinpoint some faults. Idk, people really didn't know sh*t about the game and thought that it's a completed project in spite of of *BLAZING* script "EA" on the main page and devs themselves saying that they put the game on steam just because fans wanted that? That's a complicated situation. Devs are awesome, but handling this dumpster fire will definetly take some effort that could as well be spent on the development, which will consequently lead to other community problems. For anyone who's having issues with frames right now in the EA that's just released on steam i did too on the earlier build, go into graphics settings and find RESOLUTION SCALE, i turned that down to half and it worked for me so you could try doing that too and see if it helps you Another one that i got off the discord that helps people, turn on vsync for the game and cap the frame rate (in my case it's capped to 60 fps, something i always do by default now for every game i play), it seems if you have it on unlimited frames it actually makes the frame rate worse for some reason
Having the Frame Cap set to unlimitech actually caps the FPS to 62. If you want more, you gotta set it to 120. Personally I capped my FPS to 75 via driver (due to 144hz Gsync'd display). I'm on a I9-9900K, RTX 3080, 16GB of RAM and only SSDs and based on the requirements, I expected to get 30-40 fps if I'm lucky. Turned out those fears were wrong. I'm playing at my native 1440p resolution, resolution scale is native/off and most setting are on ultra with some very few exceptions being on medium and high instead. On every single map I'm framecapped no matter how much carnage is going on. It was a huge surprise and relief. There are loading stutters though at the start of a map sometimes and when AI spawns. But it's pretty rare. I saw more stutters in most footage of the beta builds. They definitely worked on optimization since then.
First of all you are the first yt-er who played the game as is should be. No complaining about the basic gear. (Then again what is the basic gear for??? Placeholder?) Secondly thx for the tips! 3rdly keep it up man. :)
Well done video. Simple, to the point, and poignant. Got home from 12h shift, purchased, installed, and blew through the first 3 missions without incident. Didn't look for action, didn't force action, looted when I could/wanted, and made it through just fine. Got caught once and fired upon and ran out of LOS. Lost them to other attackers attacking my attackers. Healed, went to exfil. Got off to read more about how it sucks. i9 9900K, 3080Ti, runs just fine and it's NOT EFT, COD, etc. You *must* remap your neurons to do things differently and I feel this is the core point of this game; learn something new. Thanks mate!
Once you beat the initial 3 or 4 quests, you get access to a lot of quests. They seem to be repeatable and every single one gives you water, I've played about 10 hours total and I'm at 25 days worth of water. Just pick out the easy quests/ones you know you can do and get them done as you play.
Might be worth adding more detail to that tip to really get it through people's heads. "You are the weakest thing on this battlefield. You're basically the opposite of a shooter protagonist."

Problem with the loot all is that you can loot a HK triggered item, some of these are the neural interface chip, advanced toolkit, and weapons parts. Carefull looting these they can and will spawn a HK squad and they will not relent untill you are dead.
@@HandsFreeProductions i try to avoid HK squads if i can help it tend to loot high risk items at the end of the raid and then bombrush for exfil, so yeah you could fight them but its not required and risky.
It took me 5 minutes to git gud. After 3 hours of play I was already up to 21 days of water with a couple more barrels in the stash and prestiged my character of choice 3 times. Countless hours in various games that Forever Winter takes inspirations from, helped me transition into it lightning quick. I'm enjoying it alot and can't wait for it to grow. My biggest issue with the game is the clearly broken AI spawns. I'm also not a fan of the character progression and their talent trees. I hope the latter gets a rework. So much stuff there is just... questionable.
This helps immensely. Thank you. I've been getting whacked on Ashen Mesa doing the exact opposite of almost all of these tips, and most of it was because I did NOT know how I was supposed to be responding to threats and loot in the early game.
GTX 980 TI I7-6700k 32 gig ram I haven't tried the resolution slider yet, but I'm running it decently at medium fx settings. My gear is around 9 years old, upgrading soon.
Glad to hear this. A lot of newer games are really making the Skylake show its age. My main rig is also a 6700k, with half your RAM, and a 1080ti. Hopefully it should be fine. If not, my laptop has a 10700F w/ 2070s mobile that should do the trick.
I'm playing from yesterday and I'm shocked that I automatically implied all the tips before I saw this video. It was just a matter of conclusion (from fails) and re-think of what I've just done. Thanks bro, I know now that I'm on the right course.
One tip I guess I might add, even from only watching the gameplay, is CHECK YOUR SIX! Especially after firing a shot! Despite the targeting boxes, enemies do seem to be rather stealthy in terms of visuals (especially them cyber-zombies), so it's easy to pass by some of them without noticing. Meaning any you have missed, as soon as they hear you, are going to be up your ass in a moment's notice and you want to be ready on the trigger when they do! You even see this at 8:16 - Roz kills a bunch of zombies, goes to loot them, and only at the last moment sees two more have managed to stalk in behind him (unless of course this is just a EA spawning bug) and could very well have been jumped with no option to defend.
Nice to find your videos, easily better Forever War gameplay then most people covering it (I can tell by your tone you’re aware of how baffling it’s been). Noticed a bunch of shorts are hidden, your choice or YT being YT?
Walked into my first two raids, survived both with 50k profit. Crouch, snoop, dip. Thanks for compiling this, I didn’t think to try luring yet. That’ll be big.
Tip for looting: Sometimes there is too much loot in one spot together. If you just want a specific rifle or just the water ... aim down sight and the selection get easier. Not super easier but just easier.
I have a tip! For the first couple quests (getting water and the Europan drone parts), I was able to just bring one in with me to the mission and extract and it counted progress! I did also drop it and pick it back up in the level but idk if that's required.
I do have a genuine criticism, I'm away from home for work without internet for weeks on end. I have to collect water like a mad man before I go away for a few weeks soon. Otherwise, it's a fun game. Patience is a virtue here, and spatial-awareness is crucial.
In addition to the loot all tip, you and right click to drop unidentified items which drops them on the floor but when you pick them up again you will know what they are. Helpful if you find yourself somewhere quite and in need of ammo or meds. I dont know if there is an option to identify stuff without dropping it but ive not found it.
My tip as a new player of a few hours is this.. When you get a weapon in a raid that's broken if you bring the broken weapon into your next raid and successfully extract with the gun it is repaired and yours to use. I stumbled on this and at the beginning of the game getting rid of that starter rifle is important. Cause it's a turd. Like the man said.
Keep in mind some items are traceable by the enemies because they have like a tracking device .. so I've been screwed over a few times because of this. So I'm against the Loot All tip you gave.. only loot all of you are planning on grabbing and immediately going to extraction
my tip : at the beginning DON'T PRESS LOOT ALL, if you pick a neural link without knowing what it trigger, you're dead pure and simple. Loot at the loot, but this one for now until you are perfectly aware of the consequences, avoid it like the plague. ;)
@@maelan2922 yeah that’s changed since pre early access, wasn’t a thing on that version though I guess that’s the risk with these types of videos. Will be addressing it in my next video 🙂
You actually die WAY SLOWER than I thought you would in this game. I figured it was going to be more or less pretty realistic and that 1-3 shots from high caliber weapons would instantly kill you.
I am so jealous seeing people play this at such crisp framerates. My rig is NOT weak by any means with an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core Processor 4.50 ghz, 32GB DDR5 ram, and a 2070, and yet Its best if I keep the game on 30 frames so I can play it lol
That bit about loot all and then gtfo is underrated. The clue is in the name - you're a Scav. So scavenge. I get no end of giggles watching various yt'ers try to hero shooter their first few maps and get absolutely cleaned.
I have this video to thank for the fact that my first three missions were all successful extractions! Well, this video and huge amounts of luck. ...We won't talk about my next five missions.
I thought the silencers were there for aesthetics since the guns still made noise, good to know! ;) also some mad lad will run with the starting rifle, bet xD
I do know Silenced weapons still make some noise so i bet they are going for realistic silencers instead of movie quiet. And if that's the case then thats so cool!
@@thememeilator2633 yea what I mean was that the guns don't sound like they have a silencer on, even though they do, they will probably add that in the future.
I’ve used the training mission to get water and money from the stuff the cyborgs drop and I get I prestige leveled five guys but I’ve done ashen mesa a lot and that map is great for water and finding great things to sell for big money
Question: What is the most superior and actual useful Suppressor? Tired one on a AK once at that concrete area with the timed excraction, but it still alerted the entire garrison beside the Zombots.
I bought this game a couple hours ago and have done a couple runs and I gotta say it’s tons of fun. However? I just can’t survive a single run. I’ve done I guess around 10 trying to do the starter mission and can’t pull it off. Usually there is some big mech on the extraction I can’t pull away without attracting another squad, or alternatively I sneak past it and start the extraction only to get swarmed by the robot thingies. One time there was a tank. Hopefully I will be able to get it soon, though I’m not really worried about my water running out as I have nothing to save if it does LOL
i dont think loot all isnt a good idea, i noticed when i loot all, the more loot you have, enemies start to try to look around for you more, and more hunters will be deployed
All this "water" talk - People just don't understand the purpose it serves; Think of it as a "season" timer, or EFT's wipe cycle. Something super easy to obtain, and really shouldn't be worried about if you're just playing the game.
@@bbbbende most matches i've seen from youtubers who had early preview builds were able to finish missions within about 10 or so minutes (the first few levels at least), to them a couple times and try to scavenge for water (which i've heard isn't the most difficult thing ever) and you'll start banking up water supplies - i've heard you bank bank up to a months worth of water, which means if you don't have time to play a lot, as long as you get some water banked up you should be fine!
@wuberkz1692 the current water cap is 80 days. I played just under 2 hours, just casual grabbing water when I saw it. Between quest rewards and that I had 20 days of water.
@@OmegaChaosZ ah good to know that it doesn't seem too difficult to get water, thanks. people are definitely overreacting a lot on this water topic - think it's more about people minds getting stuck on "it's going to decay when i'm not playing" rather than them actually thinking about it for 2 seconds
Pretend you are a rat stay on the outside, hid where you can and only shoot if escape isn't an immediate option. Once you kill or hit something then escape is your first choice. Buy a mule early and have carry your loot. Learn the map layout.
bro i need help ive been stuck on the "get 3 europan drone debris" AND I CANT EXTRACT WITH IT OR FIND IT!!!! wtf? I see the drone, watch it get shot down, pick it up, then are instantly targeted. help?
I didn’t find the game that hard. I played for about 4 hours yesterday and ended up with 22 water cans and 576k. Water mechanic is just fine. People complain over anything. This isn’t a typical pvp extraction game. This system still allows wiping and gives you a system that demands you to stockpile when you have the time so you don’t lose a bunch of progress. Can’t wait to play again after work
0:10 Why did you have to go and tell the COD nobs that. Just the idea of them throwing a fit because they can't kill everything has had me smiling since release.
Regarding leveling up a character and prestiging, when is the right time to prestige? If I'm gonna prestige as soon as possible then should I even put xp into skills? I feel like I save up my xp for a skill but then im close enough that i can save up a little more and then just prestige. When do I get the benefit of skills and prestiging, only once I'm max lvl??
So if I understand it correctly the water decreases by 1 day for every 1 day that passes IRL? Does it decrease more while actively playing? Cause if water is not that hard to come by then it's only an issue for people that can't play often and makes it an inelegant way of pressuring people to play regularely. All while everyone that can play often basically can ignore the mechanic, when that is the group that needs extra mechanics the most to be challenged.
1 water is 24 hours of IRL time. You can get water as quest rewards or extracting with water barrels. Every barrel is 24 hours and I assume as you upgrade your rig youll be able to extract with more water

I started a Shaman and it has Sprint Expertise skill and Skill too haul more stuff.
Thanks dude, appreciate that! This tips realy helps a lot!
thanks dude I played about 20 minutes solo so far. these tips will def help see ya out there Jeffg👾
Really great tips. Thanks for the heads up
My tip as a new player of a few hours is this.. When you get a weapon in a raid that's broken if you bring the broken weapon into your next raid and successfully extract with the gun it is repaired and yours to use. I stumbled on this and at the beginning of the game getting rid of that starter rifle is important. Cause it's a turd. Like the man said.
Thanks for the excellent tips! Looking forward to applying these moving forward.
Keep in mind some items are traceable by the enemies because they have like a tracking device .. so I've been screwed over a few times because of this. So I'm against the Loot All tip you gave.. only loot all of you are planning on grabbing and immediately going to extraction
Good tips ! Bought the game and can't wait to immerse in Forever Winter !
my tip : at the beginning DON'T PRESS LOOT ALL, if you pick a neural link without knowing what it trigger, you're dead pure and simple.
Thank you for the tips, I’m playing this as if I’m playing Escape From Tarkov.
You can loot all and then drop it on the ground and pick it up again and you will know what it is
Bought it as soon as it was possible and got the banging soundtrack as well
I died in the fucking training mission 😂💀
I can’t emphasize enough, upgrade your rig! I literally got hosed by multiple squads but since I had the reinforced containers, I was able to extract!
You actually die WAY SLOWER than I thought you would in this game.
I figured it was going to be more or less pretty realistic and that 1-3 shots from high caliber weapons would instantly kill you.
Drones and infantry don’t kill you too fast but the bigger guys will absolutely one shot u 💀 I got my head squished in one blow by a Europan Brawlers
Thank you for the tips kind sir.
Will you stream the game or upload it on your channel?
probably be uploading to here
You didn't mention that the loot you extract with also gives you XP which is another reason to upgrade your rig early.
Nice mate, concise and to the point.
I thought the silencers were there for aesthetics since the guns still made noise, good to know! ;)
also some mad lad will run with the starting rifle, bet xD
I do know Silenced weapons still make some noise so i bet they are going for realistic silencers instead of movie quiet. And if that's the case then thats so cool!
@@thememeilator2633 yea what I mean was that the guns don't sound like they have a silencer on, even though they do, they will probably add that in the future.
@@Thenotsofamousone ah i see what you mean. yeah they will probably add it in the future.
Great video man things i actually wanted to know
Hi, thanks for the tips. And thx that you are honest, in the case, that you are no pro in this game. I like the vid and you are calm, thats nice.
I’ve used the training mission to get water and money from the stuff the cyborgs drop and I get I prestige leveled five guys but I’ve done ashen mesa a lot and that map is great for water and finding great things to sell for big money
Fast Tips, good tips, make sense, thank's.
Question:
What is the most superior and actual useful Suppressor?
It’s probably something painfully obvious that I am missing, but I am really enjoying the challenge
Good vid mate
i dont think loot all isnt a good idea, i noticed when i loot all, the more loot you have, enemies start to try to look around for you more, and more hunters will be deployed
Great video Dawg
Thank you for the helpful tips!
My Toptip. Buy RTX 4090 for ~ 55-60 FPS. Currently costs only 3K.
I usually get 80 fps with a 3070, make sure to launch the game with dx11 if you have an older rig
@@turdbergler657same boat. I get minimum 60-65 on ultra
All this "water" talk - People just don't understand the purpose it serves; Think of it as a "season" timer, or EFT's wipe cycle. Something super easy to obtain, and really shouldn't be worried about if you're just playing the game.
doesn't it completely lock out players with little free time for playing? What if you can only spare an hour a week? That enough?
Super easy? I played for 5 hours and found a single days worth lol.
One of those games, where after the 3rd raid death. I was like ok. Time to go watch a how to on yt.
Great video
Good tips
I love the aesthetics of this game.
Does it have a story?
I wish it was a good single player RPG :D
My fear with loot all is triggering hunter killers..... if the game is going to punish me for high quality lot when I'm not equipped to defend it.
Pretend you are a rat stay on the outside, hid where you can and only shoot if escape isn't an immediate option. Once you kill or hit something then escape is your first choice. Buy a mule early and have carry your loot. Learn the map layout.
My body is ready for the Jank! I'm ready to be thirsty for water! Bring. It. ON!
bro i need help ive been stuck on the "get 3 europan drone debris" AND I CANT EXTRACT WITH IT OR FIND IT!!!!
Can’t wait to play again after work
thank you! cant wait to get it!
Good common sense stuff, aught to work on your volume balancing between your voice and the game audio. Good vid, appreciated.
thank you this was useful :)
Is it happening with anyone else where their game only crashes on the scorched landscape map?
Any fav class?
i play mask man
Eeeeeyyyy you have a voice 😂❤ .. awesome tips brother thank you so much 🙏
0:10 Why did you have to go and tell the COD nobs that. Just the idea of them throwing a fit because they can't kill everything has had me smiling since release.
what is your setup? System req is insane bruv...
Im curious to buy it. But i think Dayz is hard so not sure if i should get involved with this.
Stupid question but I just started the game. How do you get out to extraction point, there is no map?.
Water's not hard to find. That's not why it's a bad mechanic.
have you figured out what calls hunter killers yet
Regarding leveling up a character and prestiging, when is the right time to prestige? If I'm gonna prestige as soon as possible then should I even put xp into skills? I feel like I save up my xp for a skill but then im close enough that i can save up a little more and then just prestige. When do I get the benefit of skills and prestiging, only once I'm max lvl??
Great tips.
Thanks for the video friend
So wait. Don't Shoot anything.... but make sure to buy a better weapon than the Surplus rifle, so you can shoot better??
/Confused
Avoid gunfights as much as possible but you need the best guns if you do aggro someone
"Get Soiylancers" 😂🙏
But jokes aside, great advice. Gonna spam this video in Steam Discussion, when people start posting shit because, they can't read
It's a mobile game wannabe woth that mechanic with the worst stealth I've ever seen. I refunded it. What a total letdown.
@@Joe-ti7qd it's super underdeveloped and they were completely open about it being so, I don't blame you but what exactly did you expect?
Me who only uses the surplus shotty, and rifle.
15 days of water 200k cred...
You mentioned dropping the starting guns but I can not seem to un-equip them or drop them during a raid to replace them with another weapon I find. How do you drop them or did you mean to just start the raid equipped with any non-starter gun?
