    I think the Disney one is pretty easy to explain. Russell was a popular child star at the time and was under contract with Disney, Walt was probably putting together a list of actors for some kind of upcoming role or something and died whilst doing it.
    That's pure speculation on my part, but Walt Disney writing down the name of one of his talents isn't really all that far fetched.

    I don't know why, but the Kurt Russel one made me laugh. All I can think about is Walt just laying in bed dying à la Citizen Cane, and just mutters "Kurt Russle" and dies.

      Well legally they're right, though of course that's how juries work. But dear Lord, it was so inconceivable that he'd commit any kind of crime after that that Chris Rock made fun of it: "Another kid, Michael? That's like OJ and another dead white woman!" Of course, either OJ is completely horrible, or OJ is an idiot.

    The most interesting part about the Vader story isn't mentioned here. The fact that not even the cast knew about the paternal revelation until the premiere. During the shooting of the iconic scene, David Prowse said the line "Obi Wan killed your father". The only people who knew about the change were Lucas, the Foley editor, and James Earl Jones. There is even an interview of Mark Hamill discussing his shock at seeing the change when he watched the film.

    Actually OJ had the part and Arnold had the part as Reese cause they figured Reese had to be a big battle hardened soldier to take on the terminator. But Arnold was fascinated with the terminator role because of West World (he was a fan of the androids in the movie). So while having dinner with James Cameron he kept giving his opinions and observations about the terminator character. Eventually James Cameron just told him why don’t you just play the terminator because he obviously knew what it would take for the character.

    Yeah, nice vid. I love the thing about "Lucas always had the Trilogy/ Prequels mapped out" being debunked. To expand on what Adam says:
    On the Death Star, Vader "senses a presence...". Really. That's his old master, his TWO kids, and his old droids, ONE OF WHICH HE MADE HIMSELF running around.
    He should be having a f**king seizure. xD

    • @aqacefan
      @aqacefan 7 років тому +8

      ... except that the line continues, "... a presence I've not felt since...". He wasn't there for the birth of his children, and it's extremely unlikely that droids, as artificial life forms, would have a link to The Force... so the only recollection he could have is that of Obi-Wan's Force "signature". Vader also states "The Force is strong with this one" as he's pursuing Luke down the trench, which doesn't suggest that he's familiar with the individual in that X-wing.

    • @flankspeed

      OK, you took it a bit seriously, aqacefan, but cool.

      The idea that Episode 3 wasn't bad is, I believe, as result of people having already seen 1 & 2. Yes, by comparison to those two movies it's not bad, but judged on it's own, it's still a bad movie. It's just that it's a 2 star bad instead of a 1 star bad.

      Paul M - I notice that your post was edited, so maybe something got "lost in translation". Under U.S. law, OJ was found criminally not guilty, so unless some pretty BIG and fucking amazing evidence (not even OJ finding Jeebus and starts telling everyone who would listen that he did it would do the trick). The LAPD has closed the case, as they are convinced OJ did it. Civilally he was found guilty. But when it comes down to it, you could take out an ad in [whatever the biggest newspaper in L.A.is] proclaiming, "OJ, you may have tricked a jury into setting you free, but you better be ready for a lifetime in hell because you killed those two people!", and he would have no civil recourse against you (i.e. - suing you for slander).

    "What did Obi Wan tell you of your father?"
    "He told me enough. He told me you killed him."
    The original line that was spoken on set by David Prowse was
    "No, Obi Wan Killed your father!" Luke's subsequent overreaction was in response to this line which makes it a bit more palatable. When the line was replaced by Lucas in post production "No, I am your father" for the script James Earl Jones read to redub Darth Vader, Hamil's performance seems a bit out of place. He responds with laughable anguish and despair, instead of stunned silence. No one outside of Lucas and Jones knew of the rewrite until they saw it at the premier.

    when I was a kid I was told that George Reeves, the original Superman on tv in the 50s, had committed suicide by jumping out of the top floor of a skyscraper with his Superman costume on as if he could really fly. I later learned that he had died in his bathtub under mysterious circumstances that may or may not have been suicide but far from "flying."
    There was also the rumor that Jodie from Family Affair died in Vietnam (he was a 12 when the war ended in 1973) but his tv sister Buffy did die tragically of a drug overdose in 1976 at age 18.

    Darth Vader not from the start Luke's father, eh? Ironically "Vader" is the Dutch word for "Father" and some people claim Lucas actually knew that giving a secret hint this way. Of course, in Dutch the word "Vader" pronounced completely different from the character's name (and that's why nobody in the Netherlands gets confused about this).
    Leia kissing Luke was always seen as the "solid evidence" the brother-sister relation was brought up later, though in Leia's defense I must say Leia wasn't aware of the blood ties at the time, plus neither Luke nor Leia were trained far enough in the usage of the Force to accurately tell. Darth Vader on the other hand should have been able to detect from the start when he was facing Leia already at the start of the very first movie, that she was his daughter, but he actually finds out at the end of "Return of the Jedi". Luke's case may have been a bit harder as in the space battle it may have been harder to truly pinpoint him, but Leia at the start of the film was standing right before his face, and he could even touch her (I need to watch the movie again to see if he actually did).

    • @gallery7596
      @gallery7596 8 років тому +1

      Yes, films are often filled with plot holes and lapses in logic that can call things like this into question. I have no idea if Vader being Luke's father was always Lucas's intent, and I would kinda like to know just precisely how those who made this list can state with such certainty that the claim is untrue.

    • @davidfubuster1366
      @davidfubuster1366 8 років тому +1

    • @TAPKAC
      @TAPKAC 8 років тому

      While it may be true that "Vader" is the Dutch word for father, the different pronunciation can be accredited to the fact that "Darth Vader" was derived from Dark Invader. In fact, in one language, he is known as Dark Vador.

    • @TheRealTricky
      @TheRealTricky 8 років тому +5

      They are. The prequel movies were pretty clear on that one. Luke and Leia are twins. They are both children from Padmé and Anakin, the latter now being Darth Vader. In "Return of the Jedi" you can also see that when Luke tells Leia he is her brother that Leia realises that means Vader is also her father (if Luke didn't already tell her as I need to re-watch the movie to make sure). I am told that in some novels taking place after the movies Luke even trains Leia in proper usage of the Force as she inherited a talent for that from her father, and Luke wanted to rule out the slightest chance she'd fall to the Dark Side, only due to her ignorance about the dangers of the Force. Darth Vader also says something like "Obi Wan was wise to hide her existence from me". Another clear mention about their family ties, after all, why hide Leia when she wasn't his daughter?

    Imagine if they made a film with all the lead actors being people nobody’s ever heard of, but all the extras and throwaway characters are actually big names. Just sit back and watch the audience’s heads explode when the credits roll and it’s Morgan Freeman, Tom Cruise, etc and nobody had noticed.

    I'm certain Luke's father was supposed to be Ben Kenobi. That's why the "fake" script David Prowse was given had that as the big reveal, it wasn't fake originally, I'm sure. Even further supported by the Jedi novelization having Ben's ghost say that Uncle Owen was his brother.

    Regarding the last one. Anakien Skywalker never knew the name of his child or that there was a twin sister. Also, Jedi seem to be able to hide their ID when they haven't learned the ways of the force in the same way the Sith can hide their ID on purpose.

  • @Croecho
    @Croecho 8 років тому +27

    Final myth: It wasn't in the original script because they were trying to hide it. George Lucas's original material before New Hope's script was made, is FULL of differences from the movies, Han being an alien, Luke being Starkiller, just... a mess. But Darth Vader has always been an allusion to the words "Dark Father."
    You can tell that by the time New Hope was in production that George Lucas intended for this reveal because of the acting direction given to Sir Alec Guinness, and his hesitation before lying to Luke. George Lucas has also, for decades, argued that he imagined Star Wars as a science fiction version of a Soap Opera...hence the familial reveals. Essentially, the idea is that the entire Galaxy is in turmoil due to a family dispute at the heart of it.

      No it wasn't. The original Star Wars' first draft has Darth Vader has some general with no relation to Annakin Starkiller and his father Kane Starkiller. Even the first draft of The Empire Strikes Back still has Vader and Anakin as separate people.

    • @Croecho
      @Croecho 8 років тому +1

      I literally fucking said that, you skimming shit: "George Lucas's original material before New Hope's script was made, is FULL of differences from the movies, Han being an alien, Luke being Starkiller, just... a mess."
      Yes, we've both read the comic based on the original script - but it was still made AFTER the fact. AFTER retrospect. His original script was a mess - and the "General" Darth Vader, was still going to be revealed as someone's fucking father. And the original Empire script was written the way it was - with one key exception: James Earl Jones's script, which contains the line "I am your father" as opposed to "Obiwan killed your father" which was ALWAYS going to be part of post-production. That's how they kept the secret - and yet it STILL managed to leak.

    • @Croecho
      @Croecho 8 років тому

      And by the way, the proof that even the comic book based on the original script has been altered, is that most of the CB characters don't match the original concept art, which was paired with his script - ESPECIALLY Darth Vader, who was ALWAYS imagined in dark armor, as a fallen hero figure, despite what retrospective statements would have you believe. I've been watching the ever-changing extra material for every release of Star Wars since it came out to VHS, and I can tell you that George Lucas has changed his official statement on things more than he's physically edited the movies - and you know how many times he's done that!

    • @somebuddyX
      @somebuddyX 8 років тому +3

      Croecho
      Yeah dude I read your whole original comment and I'm not talking about the comic at all, only the rough draft starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Star_Wars:_Rough_Draft. Vader is the main antagonist with no relationship to anybody and no one's father. The only father figure is Kane Starkiller, Annakin's father and he dies halfway through the script. And the only reason Vader has armour is that it was designed by Ralph Macquarrie to be a spacesuit he wore because there was a scene where Vader traveled between ships through space.starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Vader%27s_armor#Behind_the_scenes
      Leigh Brackett's original script for The Empire Strikes, written in 1978, has scenes where Luke talks to the spirit of his father Anakin who is explicitly a completely different person from Vader. www.geeksofdoom.com/2010/05/15/early-draft-of-empire-strikes-back-reveals-alternate-star-wars-universe It is a completely different draft than the later one written by Lawrence Kasdan in 1980.

    One problem with the Darth Vader story. It wasn't in the final script because Lucas kept it a secret and had Darth Vader state that Obi Wan killed Luke's father on set. It was corrected when James Earl Jones did the voiceover. But in 1978 Dave Prowse gave an interview in a fanzine titled Little Shop of Horrors in which he casually mentioned that Darth Vader was Luke's father two years before Empire came out, so that had long been planned.

    Lucas certainly had it in mind that Vader would be Luke's father in 1978, because that's when Dave Prowse revealed it in an interview. Asked if he would be back for a sequel, he replied that yes he would, and he was looking forward to it because the film would reveal that Vader and Skywalker were father and son. Lucas was reportedly furious at the spoiler, and Prowse was henceforth banned from any further publicity appearances. So maybe not such a late addition to the script as all that...

    I heard a radio interview a long time ago when Tom Hanks said he had a cameo in Real Genius. Everyone says I'm wrong, but I know what I heard. But the interview never said where he his cameo was. However, I still thinks it's legit. In Real Genius, when Mitch backs-up and bumps into a guy at the party (at the beginning of the movie) that is Tom Hanks. He has the same "afro" he had in the beginning of his career. But wait! Neal Israel wrote both Real Genius and Bachelor Party. He also directed Bachelor Party, starring Tom Hanks and, in this same interview, Hanks said both films were filmed "on the same lot." The director of Real Genius (Martha Coolidge) needed extras for the party scenes and the most of the cast of Bachelor Party just went over to the set.

    The funny thing is: In 1978 David Prowse, who played Darth Vader, spoiled the entire "Luke, I am your father" thing, including the lightsaber fight and everything. And that was before filming for The Empire Strikes Back even started:
    io9.gizmodo.com/5684916/in-1978-darth-vaders-actor-spoiled-the-empire-strikes-backs-ending-to-a-local-newspaper/
    So I am not sure if this inspired George Lucas to change it later on or if David Prowse made up something and just guessed right. Back then there was no internet, so this spoider didn't get more well-known.

    Vader couldn’t sense Luke’s identity because he had never met him. After all, he wasn’t sure what the “presence” he had “not felt since...” was without some contemplation and that was his former master so how could he have known who this rebel pilot was? He sensed that the Force was strong with Luke, but nowhere else are we led to believe that the Force tells you the identity of people you’ve never met.
    His last name WAS a giveaway, though, as it is clearly stated in the opening crawl of Empire that he was looking for the young rebel who blew up the Death Star.
    You might be right, the twist might have been on the fly, but those two points don’t prove it.

    I like the idea of Arnold being the Terminator....yeah he is a body builder, but body builders still exist, they still walk around our cities. Might not be so common to see, but you do see uncommon people without assuming they are going to do any harm. So he still blends in fine.

    • @Xegethra
      @Xegethra 8 років тому

      ***** Yeah but my point was that he isn't the most bizarre looking person you'll ever see. He fit the role.
      Maybe in L.A. that body type is just more common. Even so, the machines chose a look for him that would be accepted by other human beings even if he would get funny looks, and it worked.
      If you saw a man like that walking the streets, you'd still accept him as human, that is all they needed. Guess they wanted a machine people would be less likely to challenge, even if the cyborg can obviously handle itself.

    • @Xegethra
      @Xegethra 8 років тому

      ***** But he still played the role of an acceptable looking human being. We see muscles all over the media so it isn't that unusual to see them, so then seeing them on the streets might be unusual yeah, but you would still think body builder, not harmful machine. So he still blended in amongst the humans there, they accepted him as one of their own.
      He might not have blended in on a superficial level, but as a type of human that exists that we all know of, he succeeded. Acceptance is all the machine needed and it got it.

      +Mr Peaches Latour Terminators were created to infiltrate rebel teams and hideouts, but the rebels found out that dogs could smell the difference, so they had guard dogs check each returning combat team to check if any of the soldiers had been replaced by terminators. Now model T-100 was obviously designed to look like a strong rebel soldier, not a smaller one like Kyle. Later models could impersonate any actual rebel, but still failed the smell test.

      See, the problem I have with that (and the way the rebels looked in Genysis) is that these people live in dire conditions and getting food, water, and medicine is clearly difficult. They should (and realistically would) have all looked like Kyle in the original film - malnourished, wiry, and twitchy. Giant dudes with heavy accents who do not emote with either their voice or face would not blend in at all.

    It is very true that he had that hole dad thing mapped out starting in the first drafts in the early 70’s which is very much a part of a Greek tragedy which Star Wars mimics. There is a video here somewhere on UA-cam about Lucas’s plan. The issue is, Lucas is wishing washy and changed his mind often (ex.,Wookiee’s became Ewoks). I don’t think even Lucas knows the truth.
