Depends if you are self aware (honest enough) to why you help. Codependents “help” and drive their loved ones away by their subconscious intent of needing the other to be ok, needy people who want to be loved “help” to get that appreciation and adoration and chose narcissistic people to play their martyrdom role with, the narcissist helps by seeing only their experience of the world and what they desire and push their “help” onto the people around them. True service comes from honesty of the benefits and intentions we have only then can joy be real through service otherwise it’s just a sneaky way to manipulate to get OUR needs met.
