Yes, many don't recall or understand that September 12, 1966 was when the first episode was broadcast. While singles were released leading up to the debut of the show, the first album was released in October, 1966. Over the mid-year filming break in December 1966, they flew to Hawaii and played a full concert of thier hits at the time. While Mike and Peter were established as musicians before filming began, the concert demonstrated a collective level of musicianship before the second album was released in January, 1967.

The song was written by Carole King & iDavid Geffen the summer they rented a house in West Orange +, New Jersey. One of the main drags in town is Pleasant Valley Way. 😊

LOVE IT!! Man, the drummer really has Micky's vocals down perfect. Wow. ... but what's up with they guy in black just rattling a tambourine? I've heard of the fifth Beatle, but the fifth Monkee?

Their goal is to look like the Monkees on stage but have the music sound like the records, that's why the two extra guys. Boyce & Hart's band used to do the same for the Monkees on stage back in the day.

This is a great song. Not necessarily an easy song... the instrumental part is pretty good. Vocals need some work here... again, not an easy song! Keep at it... Love The Monkees!

Davy never played the bass.. Peter did. He was also late on the backup vocals. I'm not sure what the guy in the back next to the Micky clone is doing with his arm. it looks like he's shaking the maracas

There's a guy playing a guitar that's obscured behind the keyboard player, he looks like he's doing the harmonies as well. A lot of their songs featured two guitar tracks, so that 'second' is needed and he should be up front in a red shirt, too. (I'd give them a pass on a 5th band member).

I was unaware of how much Michael and Peter didn’t get along, yet when Davy passed away Micheal made a point of acknowledging how Peter was the most developed musician of the band “by an order of magnitude!”

Mickey auditioned for the show by playing a guitar and singing Johnny B. Goode. Mike of course was already a composer, musician and performer. Peter played guitar and performed with Stephen Stills in Greenwich Village. They were part of a group called The Buffalo Fish. And Davy was a song and dance man who performed stage musicals in England.

@@kurtb8474 Yep, Micky was in a band before auditioning.
One of the guys said in an interview that if it were up to them, Micky would have been the lead singer, Davy would be on drums (Peter had tutored Micky and Davy on playing drums) and Mike and Pete would switch (Pete playing guitar as Mike said he was a much better guitarist).

Ron is doing the other vocals and acoustic (behind Peter). Doug chose to play the electric guitar part instead of the vocal at the end. NO ONE has ever played that guitar riff and sang the vocal part at the same time. The syncopation is too difficult. That's why there are 2 extra guys on stage-to cover the other parts.

The Monkee Mens "joke" about going back to a time when "Boys liked girls. Girls liked boys and the only thing that swung both ways was Tarzan" was anything but humorous. It came across as hateful and ignorant. My hopes are that they take note on how ill received that joke was and find a more harmonious and kind way to fill in space between songs.

Archie approves: "Boy, the way Glen Miller played.
Songs that made the Hit Parade.
Guys like us, we had it made.
      Those were the days
      Didn't need no welfare state.
      Everybody pulled his weight
Gee, our old LaSalle ran great.
      Those were the days
And you knew where you were then
Girls were girls and men were men.
Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.
      People seemed to be content.
      Fifty dollars paid the rent.
Freaks were in a circus tent.
      Those were the days
      Take a little Sunday spin,
Go to watch the Dodgers win.
      Have yourself a dandy day
That cost you under a fin.
Hair was short and skirts were long.
Kate Smith really sold a song.
I don't know just what went wrong
      Those Were the Days"
