The PPSH-41: How It REALLY Works

- We take a deep dive into the inner workings of the PPSH-41, and attempt to show just how incredibly simple these iconic World War 2 SMG’s really are. Even for Russian standards.

About Me
My name is Brandon Herrera. I'm the owner and operator of The AK Guy Inc, a 07 Firearm Manufacturer based out of Fayetteville, NC. I also co-own Stark Media Group, and designed the rifle known as the AK-50.
I've started to dedicate this UA-cam channel above all to have fun, but also as a way to document my entrepreneurial journey for the next few years as I try to grow my companies. Hopefully, people can learn from my example, successes, and failures.
Either way, I'm having a lot of fun with it so far, and I hope it's just as fun to follow along!

You have a video on a 3d printed trunnion which exemplifies what it'd be like without locking lugs.
You know, I would like to know how the STG 44 works, which was actually the influence of the AK if you didn’t know.
The Southern Family Well kind of, not really. I think that idea mostly comes from appearance. The AK has more in common with the M1 platform than the STG on the inside.
The PPSH basically has 2 fire modes. On and off
Yes and No.
Wrong, it’s always on
Presne
In soviet Russia gun fires you
Actually, PPSH 41 has semi-automatic mode.
You know you have achieved peak engineering when the cartridge is the most complicated part of your weapon.
*laughs in makarov*
Simplicity is always the best solution. Less things can go wrong. Even better for the soviet union
Suprisingly russia didnt like the ppsh-41 because it was still too complex (took too long to make and to many recourses)
So their solution was the pps-43 which is crazy how simple and cheap it is
@@jhawley031 Yep, they were like, the gun is less complex than a bullet? niet, make it less complex than a needle.

Ak guy: You can’t make a direct blowback 50 cal.
Me: Precedes to make one with a 50 lb bolt and an old school Car suspension spring
ATF: proceeds to pack up and get ready for a road trip
True xD But yeah, its also possible to either nest a couple of smaller springs into each other and/or temporarily disconnect the recoil spring(s) by rotating a bolt or piece of it out of the way of from the recoil springs to manipulate the bolt. Once I can, I want to try to make simple closed-bolt blowback rifles and more powerful blowback pistols by using those concepts.

@Winchester Model 70 A polish conscript. Probably given the worst production models and very shitty gear. Also terrible quality and kept ammo probably ammo that was exposed to snow and cold and other damaging elements. The high cyclic rate doesn't mean fire a fucking 14 round burst at a target 55 metres+ you wont hit shit its not supposed to be a carbine or a rifle its supposed use I don't remember but it worked better in urban environments. I'm sure your grandfather wasn't fighting in the heart of poland as a conscript he wouldn't have been trusted by the Soviets and if he was then he really got the short end of the stick because polish were treated terribly so fighting the one of the bloodiest fights in russian history is pretty shit tbh. The mosin was for russian army and specialized units because it because harder to continue mass building further into the war so it basically was a gift from god himself if you got a pre shortage mosin from production without any modifications to the furniture to make it cheap. I mean I guess I'm stupid for finding an old relic very useful for specific needs yeah.

Was it a joke? M2 is a short-recoil system, not direct blowback. Direct blowback are 20-mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft cannons. But 150+ lb gun is not something to be carried daily or fired from a shoulder anyway. And it is heavy for a reason, and uses a sort of block mechanism to cock its action because of crazy powerful recoil springs.
I was watching the Star Wars Christmas Special, but I guess I could watch this instead
Damn. The ppsh was already one of my favorite guns (mostly from cod) and I loved the deiselpunk aesthetic of it. Now that I actually learned about it and how simple it is, I love it even more. Instead of complicating it and making it difficult (like AR's😑) they (I'm guessing Russians) created a super simple gun design that I wish we could see more of in modern time. This is definitely a firearm design that I would try building in the inevitable apocalypse.

It is thanks to your videos that I was able to correct a guy in Outriders earlier today. He said "the scope on my gun is almost as long as the barrel" but what he meant was "the scope is as long as the gun would be if it didn't have a stock" and I actually explained that because it's not a single-shot weapon, the firing pin/bolt has to move back through the body of the gun and if it wasn't a bolt action sniper, it also would have needed room for a recoil spring and all that. He lives in the UK like I do, he knows I live in the UK, and his only response was "So the scope is LONGER than the barrel?" with as much glee as a 6-year old being told they can have ice-cream for breakfast.
So thanks, Brandon, for teaching me enough about firearms so I can effectively inform my fellow gamers how truly absurd their 20-inch sniper scope really is.
