  • The view from Mt Sheila, offers Spectacular views of the Hamersley Range if you are willing to take the drive up.
The 2km single lane poorly bitumised "road" to the top of Mount Sheila is not for the faint hearted but is quite an adventure as it is steep and gets very steep near the top. Most of the way there is little room to pull off if you meet a vehicle ( hopefully only one :) ), coming the other way. As you continue, it's not long before you get a sense of how high above the surrounding terrain you are.
From research Mount Sheila (1006 mtrs) is one of three Mounts that can be driven up in the Pilbara the other two being Mount Meharry (1250 mtrs) and Mount Nameless (1128 mtrs).
We found a small pull off about two thirds up, which was approx. 890mts above sea level, and pulled in to take this footage.
Mt Sheila was the home of a Telstra Radio Tower which has since been decommissioned. In geography terms, Mt Sheila is approx. 1006mts above sea level, has a local relief of greater than 300 mts which is considered very high and on par with volcanoes and mountains. A sign at the bottom says 4wd only, when driving it, you can appreciate why a 4WD is required.
You will find Mt Sheila about 40 kms north of Tom Price in the Shire of Ashburton, Western Australia. If you travel the Tom Price Railway Road, you need to obtain a Rio Tinto access permit either from the Tom Price Visitor Center or complete it online, the Shire of Ashburton website has a link to the training.
Mt Sheila is on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma people.
    Take nothing but photos/video,
    Leave nothing but footprints and
    Kill nothing but time.
This video was filmed in 4k with a DJI Mavic 3 Pro.
