Thanks Jade, i really enjoy this kind of video that introduce English living information, because i just came stay here and don't everything, that really helpful for me.
From watching BBC TV series I've definitely heard of Tesco, Aldi & Marks & Spencer :) And of course the legendary Selfridges(sp?) Waitrose sounds like Whole Foods & Aldi sounds kind of like Costco :D here in the US

TK Maxx is actually an American company, but when they expanded to the UK, there was already a store called TJ Hughes, they altered the name slightly so people won't get confused - and I hear pound world is going out of business, is this true?
I worked for TK Maxx a few months ago and what you say is true, the store has also expanded to Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Ireland, and is opening its chain in Spain. And yea the Pound World is already out of business, its last store was closed about a week ago.
That's quite dissapointing - pound world was good store for cheap things you need at that moment - TJ Maxx is one of my favorite stores here in the US! I went to a TK Maxx in London and it seemed kinda different. TJ Maxx here in the US is more like a discount retail store, but in London it felt more up market. Maybe it's just me
Dear Jane:Have you experienced the cashier registering the over amount money beyond you submit with the change tender to be given to the client in the exchange of receiving more actual money supposed to be received and your awareness of trustful and not stealing mindset? BTW,I would like to call you sweetie patootie.
This video is from 2018. Eventually it'll all be run by Amazon anyways! Here in the USA, the deal is known as a "bogo" (with hard o's like "go"), so it can be "buy one, get one..." free, half off, whatever.
Thank you so much Jade. The fact that you made this lesson for us, international students of English, is proof that you want us to learn English culture. And for that, you have become my favorite ESL teacher. Keep doing what you're doing. You deserve more students and a lot more subscribers!
'Taste the difference' (sainsburys) , 'extra special' (tesco) and 'deluxe'(asda) are names given by these supermarkets to a supposedly more elite product range. However, Sainsburys catch phrase in it's ad campaign is 'try something new today', not 'taste the difference' which asu said, is a range of foods within sainsburys.
Hi, sweetie - she's talking about supermarkets who TRADE in Britain - not supermarkets who ARE British. BIG difference. Many visitors from non-European countries will not necessarily know of Lidl and Aldi but in conversation with Brits may well hear these companies mentioned. THAT'S what this video is about.
Thanks for great videos, Im lookin forward to new ones. There is also one thing about corner shops. ıt's buying oyster card and toping up to your oyster card for daily, weekly(7days) and montly(29days) to use transportation.
Aldi and Lidl are both German discounters and super popular here in Germany ... According to the sales figures Aldi is Germany’s leading distributor of organic products...
Hi Jade! Thanks a bunch for explaining where and how to do shopping in England! Great guidance! Also, thanks a lot for your manner of really natural British English and for speaking, sort of, just straight out of your mind! Not from a script. So, that was coolest experience of English for me ever! You look stunning too! Have a nice day and take care!
This is also the case outside England, in the wider United Kingdom, on a British scale, where the same stores and shopping routines exist, just as described for England. This video has use on a wider basis throughout the British Isles.
It's funny how you Brits pronounce Lidl. We in Germany pronounce it [ˈliːdl̩] since it's a German company. I think I would not understand somebody who says ˈlɪdəl.
I am from California USA. A few years ago we had a caregiver for my mother. The young lady was from Perth Australia. She went to a supermarket and asked for a "trolley" . Everybody tried to help her even the manager. No one could figure out what she wanted. Her Aussie dialect at first for her was undecipherable to start. Finally it was found out that she wanted a "shopping cart" . The words "trolley" , "shopping cart" and "buggy" is used in different areas in the English speaking world. Maybe basket as well, but usually that would be handheld.
Interesting - here, M&S is mostly considered a clothing brand, for the longest time I had no idea they sold food as well. I think people are boing groceries there more often now though. I like their ginger snaps and their Christmas pudding is fairly decent, too (and they make a glutten free one).
Asda !As I could forget the second time I came around Edinburgh, I used to go together with Mrs, whom welcomed me there , we did so a lot of shopping at good and flabbergast prices ; too much cheaper . . . Good and Unforgetable missing or longings !

Although in the England "fag" is slang for a cigarette', in the USA "fag" is derogatory slang for a homosexual. I'm from the USA but I lived in England years ago.
I know many Europeans and Germans who do not frequent Aldi, Lidl and Tesco, not even in the UK. These are affluent people. In the UK, they prefer Waitrose and small speciality shops, delis and farmers markets. In their view, the middle ground would be Sainsbury's and M&S.
Thank you so much for your work. Love it. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧big applause 👏🏻 from southern Germany 🇩🇪 😊. ALDI and LIDL: that’s right, hurry up, paying quickly, not funny but cheap. In German they are classified as “Discounter” (discount market), they are not classified as supermarket (with fresh products like cheese, meat etc.)
Thanks a lot for your explanations Jade, they are very helpful to have a clear idea where to buy when people travel to England,I remember when I was to London some years ago in Christmas festivities that I used to buy in Sainsbury's because some of them were located in the north of London where I was staying spending my vacations.I remember that I found there a great variety of beverages...Lidl is in spain as well in almost everywhere......Thanks again and have a great day.

Love your videos! You reminded me of my kind English teacher back in the days of my childhood.
Excellent! I'm from Canada and this video was extremely helpful. Thanks you're a sweetheart Jade :]
A gorgeous class ! 👏👏👏👏👏👏Un abrazo, from Olivos, Buenos Aires, Argentina🇦🇷🏴🇬🇧
You're awesome, the perfect teacher! Thanks! God bless you! Regards from Milan!
Thank you so much Jade! All heroes don't wear caps
I used to pack my stuff at the counter in Lidl and Aldi in Glasgow. I was always super fast 🤣 I agree with you on Sainsbury's. It's super expensive.
Thanks Jade, i really enjoy this kind of video that introduce English living information, because i just came stay here and don't everything, that really helpful for me.
It was very interesting 'trip' among the various shops, thank you. Yes, Tesco is getting worse and worse also in Hungary.
Thank you Jade, you are great teacher and the most important: a good person.
Finally, a family member cited; your mum. Oh, Jade, I hope you a good girl taking care of her. It is said paradise is under the foot of our mothers.

Lidl is from Germany, yes. We have it in Croatia too
What a pleasant and soft look ! Looking wow Jade! 😍😙
Great lesson again thank you 😊
In Amsterdam most streets have the same chain stores. Exactly the same (not in the center though).
Thank you
Hello jande! Can you make a video about the pronounciation of 'T' in english, please? =)
Amazing lesson! Thanks a lot!
Well done Jade !
I live in London but where I live there are only John Lewis,Waitrose,M and S and Sainsbury's-the struggle
What happened to Safeway? Nobody mentions it.

I will vote up for Morrisons. Just like the doctor ordered.
I take my hat off to you
😂😂 Bog off means, go away/get lost as ‘bog’ means loo (toilet)
Somehow Jade can say things that can really offend people in a charming way. If I said the same thing I'd have got so many arrows shooting at me.
ooh, how I miss IRN-BRU drink 😯
To my Asian taste buds, Marks and Spencer ready meals are best. Other brands are simply tasteless.

What are the differences between shopping in the UK and Austria?

Lidl and Aldis are owned by a competing pair of German brothers. the one who owns Aldis also owns Trader Joe's
