Thank you for watching! :)
Kevin Garnetts performance in this movie is the best by any athlete ever imo
Literally played himself but ok
@@Joeysaladslover he still had to perform the lines lmao. its not improv
the character was literally written for him. it was originally meant to be a different basketballer but they rewrote the whole script around him
@@cheekybananaboy3361 and it’s not hard to act like yourself, the challenge of acting is becoming another person and he definitely didn’t have to do that.
@@Joeysaladslover eh i think having to act as yourself by reciting lines that were written for you by a different person is hard in its own way. he still had to put the emotion behind ir
It’s mental how even seeing a video about uncut gems raises my heart rate to like 100bpm lmaoooo
RIGHT like why was I sweating watching this video
can’t believe Adam Sandler didn’t get an Oscar nomination for his role in uncut gems.
was 100% the best performance of the year
Honesty them snubbing him, Dafoe for lighthouse and Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, all their best performances made me completely lose belief in the academy as a whole
@@Teddyisoffline facts
@@joeryan7306 Naomi Watts in Funny Games and Toni Collette in Hereditary as well.
Nice pic bro
Calling it now it’s the one where Howard sobs after seeing the ass tattoo
you were close
its literally the one before that 😭
This was by far my favorite film of 2019, I have seen it an unbelievable amount of times. No other movie, even good time, has made me feel the amount of pressure and anxiety that this movie puts on me. I remember as soon as the credits started rolling in the theaters, my headache went away and I felt a rush of cold air around me…
Even though gems is an intense drama, it still manages to be an Adam sandler movie
what?
@@huntwray312 What I’m trying to say is that even though gems is an intense drama, it still manages to be an Adam sandler movie
@@tomk2688 got it bro
@@tomk2688 thanks for clearing that up
@@jesstube6466 no problem bro
looking at that scene being played again gives me PTSD
You don’t know how happy I was to see you making a video dedicated to Uncut Gems & even with the word “perfect” being used! :)
I haven't even seen the movie yet but your retelling of the scene alone hasmy heart racing lol
During the intro I was trying to figure out which perfect scene you're going to talk about. Sign of a good movie.
Your comment at the end about how, for him, the thrill is seeing how close he fly to the sun, immediately made of the third dynamic of this movie which is his family life. He has the apartment, is separated, obviously things aren't great. But then the scene where his son has to go to the bathroom when they're driving home. You can feel Howard's anxiety and tension when he realizes his son might see his assistant he's having an affair with. I haven't want he'd in a while, but that just made me wonder, does Howard's wife not know about his affair? Is this another way that he tests how close he can get to the sun?
By far the most important aspect of this movie that no one talks about is world building. It's immersing because it's new and feels authentic
absolutely. i felt fully immersed, like i was following howard around the entire time. crucial part of why i enjoyed the movie
Literally one of my favourite movies of all time
So good. Good Time is great too. Cant wait to see what the safdies have up next. I might have a heart attack tho lol.
Very nice video. Saw the movie on Netflix last night for the first time and it blew me away.
Literally watched the movie for the first time an hour ago... damn
I’ve seen it three times and I was stressed even with you talking over the one scene
Might have to suck it up and rewatch this here soon. 😂
Bruh, I just completed watching Uncut Gems.
What do you think?
@@chrismezza1940 One word: intense. It makes you anxious as fuck but I can say it's worth it
@@shekharr2227 agreed lol. Almost got a heart attack. Very good stuff tho. I prefer Good Time, but this is probably better made. Sandman can act.
@@chrismezza1940 I am about to watch that soon!
@@shekharr2227 nice!
Been missing vids like this
one of my favourite details of the scene is how arno lowers his body so as to not obstruct the camera recording the auction, yet phil and the other guy just walk right in front of it not giving a fuck. subtly foreshadowing the ending by showing that arno is just "playing the part", and deep down he is not a dangerous criminal like the others
adam sandler was snubbed so fucking bad.
Uncut gems fandom RISE.
Am from ethiopia 🇪🇹 i loved the movie adam was cool i loved the weeknd comeo
“I agree. I agree.”
Get it Karsten
yess
Great video!
Love the soundtrack as much as the movie.
daniel lopatin !
I don’t give a fuck. This is in my top 20 films all time.
Cool
👏
the perfect scene is when Adam Sandler is in the closet
Can you please talk about Napoleon dynamite again
I would've liked the movie more if Howard had any sense of sympathy. Since he was so horrid I couldn't attach to him and I didn't care about his outcomes.
I thought the title was "Uncut Gems' Perfect Score" so I was really confused when the video ended and you hadn't mentioned it.
I've seen this movie on some nasty website and the whole movie had this low key constant music playing in the back ground was that in the normal legit version?
I think that might be the soundtrack ambience music. It's quite eerie
this movie gave me a panic attack and i hated every second of it!
Seems to me, most of the people that enjoyed the film have a thing for anxiety porn.
I love Requiem for a Dream, but did not like Uncut Gems.
@@cupwave2 You guys have shit taste, Uncut Gems was amazing.
I fell asleep watching uncut gems sorry
really though? there was a good scene? i tried the movie on 3 different occasions but it was equally unwatchable
Even though I didn’t like that movie too much, I think it’s a bit unfair to say there were no good scenes at all: this scene had a ton of tension and suspense, the ending, even though I didn’t like it, from the perspective of how directors constructed the tension once again was really solid. It’s just I personally just couldn’t quite associate myself with the main character, thus felt like the believability of the whole movie suffered a bit; but in real life you have people who are gambling their last pennies, who suffer from addictions that ruins them and their families, so I sort of get it on one hand. Just wasn’t particularly my cup of tea and apparently not yours either, but I guess to each their own :)
The Safdie’s anxiety-driven and adrenaline-fueled style just scratches an itch for me.
stop it!!
Yes thank you, I love there style
Their*
seriously, it makes me wonder if i have adhd because i have almost never been consistently engaged in a movie the same way i was with this one
I think the scene where kg is stuck in the second door at the jewelers and then the two guys outside looking for howard and howard is trying to fix it all is the most perfectly built up scene that I can think of
The guy who brought his heavy 😂
There literally wasn’t any audio and I still felt anxious and stressed when the clips of the auction scene came up
every character in uncut gems just felt so damn real. i felt like i really knew howard by the end of it
Watched this movie while recovering in the hospital, as soon as the movie started I didn’t concentrate on pain or anything I just watched the story unfold with an insanely high bpm, open eyes and heavy anxiety. I loved every second of it, this is what a movie should be. I was sucked into it from the start and forgot everything around me. I felt extremely relieved when it ended and the anxiety stopped but I wanted to watch it again immediately … had never seen a movie like this before and probably never will.
would recommend “tangerine” “daddy long legs” and also “heaven knows what” the second two of which are also from the safdies
This must be exactly what gambling feels like if you get me
I just wanna take a second to make a Julia appreciation post, I know this isn't about her, but she is a great character
julia
I hope she reads this bro, g’luck
Yes I like how she doesn’t have any problems with Luca being a sea monster.
I dont feel like revisiting an anxiety attack right now Karsten, no thank you
My buddy hates this film. I don’t understand how he doesn’t appreciate the genius of it
It’s an easy film to hate lol
Maybe because It's very intense, I took brakes to watch it, but I love it to death tho, amazing movie
It is a lot to handle
Honestly this was my favorite movie in the past couple years, gonna rewatch tonight
not many people could be a fan of the consistently intense atmosphere that builds on itself
“Uncut Gem’s perfect scene” I think the entire thing is perfect
I've seen it quite a few times, and the opening sequence never seems to land for me.
it’s also like one big scene because it’s never ending
Karsten: *literally describes hell*
Karsten: Meaning it gets better every time :)
what’s your favorite scene in uncut gems..
The ending
The Weeknd concert scene it’s a complete nostalgia trip especially for someone like me who grew up in the late 00’s and early 10’s and what makes it better “swimming pools” by Kendrick Lamar plays after
furby
The play scene.
I loved the beginning when kevin garnett comes into the shop. the chaotic nature of it all is so impressive with all the overlapping dialogue.
There's a lot of them
One of my favourite films of 2019, really glad you covered it.
I thought it was going to be The Weeknd concert, but this is a great scene too. One of the best movies of recent years imho. Great analysis! Keep it up
I just watched this movie recently, and it was one of the most engaging films I’ve ever seen. I feel that the auction scene does the best job at exemplifying the engaging nature of the film.
Though I’ve never been an addict, this movie made me understand Howard, and root for him every step of the way.
I've watched Uncut Gems like 8 times just to show people how good it is 🤣
I watched it 800 times just to comment that I watched more times than you.
In the end... Karsten was the gem 🔹️ 🙃
Corny, but I agree with this message :)
the safdie’s style is really unlike much else i’ve ever seen. can’t wait to see what they come up with in the future
Man one of the things that make me very uncomfortable while watching this film is how fragile howard is ( spoilers )
He starts the movie doing a medical check up to see if he has cancer making him already seem very fragile and not in his best shape, and he’s constant being beaten through the film by Arlo’s bodyguards not being able to defend himself in any scene, he’s throw at the fountain in public no one helps him he needs to deal with KG that’s way taller than him making him few tiny, he really only has his mind and speech to save his ass and still gets shot right through the brain
my mum hates films with a lot of swearing. safe to say she didn’t enjoy this film
The score and mesmerizing visuals, the stress, the cathartic end, the acting... All perfect. By far the best movie experience I've ever had.
Wish I saw it in theaters :(
@@chrismezza1940 me too..
You're making me feel like I need to go back and revisit this movie because the first time I saw it I knew it was good but wasn't in love with it like everybody else
It’s well done but it’s no 50 First Dates
Just saw this in a theater again. Love the film got to see it on the big screen for the first time.
The end of the movie is the best tho
You got a PS5?
I’ve seen it 7 times and it’s my favorite movie
This video made me wanna rewatch this film
Thomas Flight recently did a video on this movie where he talked a lot about this scene, but your take was still unique and insightful. Great video!
I’m wondering what makes this film so divisive. Yeah I understand some people aren’t Sandler fans, but I really don’t get why so this received so much hate from some audiences.
Maybe because the tension made viewers uncomfortable. I loved it but it was hard to watch because I felt like I was gonna have a heart attack lol. Also that ending I guess.
I’m so very thankful that the weeknd is in this movie because he was the only reason I wanted to watch this movie and I’m so glad I did this movie is a masterpiece that I would’ve completely avoided if it wernt for that one decision
Oh, I thought you meant the scene where Adam Sandler cries while looking at Julia Fox's ass tattoo.
This movie, more than any other movie, reminds me of finals week.
very interesting take. i’m glad ur essays r back :)
One of my fave vids you've released. Showed Uncut Gems to friends of mine who gamble and all we could talk about after was Howie's gambling addiction present throughout... Your analysis of that auction scene is excellent!!!!
this movie was one of the worst times watching a movie I've ever had, but that's cause they told the story really really well. Many of my family are addicts, and my best friend spiraled into addiction many years ago. I've never seen a more accurate depiction of it, and just how fast you can dig your own grave. It hit so close to home it was truly awful for me to sit through, with the ending being something I worry about a lot coming for the people around me. Definitely should've won oscars!
i mean really the whole movie is perfect
spoiler alert: the perfect scene in uncut gems lasts 2h15min
As a youngin I didn't really feel anything but anxiety during this film. But this video made me feel more towards this character and his actions.
This is probably my favorite movie of all time ngl
i watched this with my parents who don't like movies that much. They thought it was awful. They didn't really understand what the movie was trying to be 😒
Def a movie for people who love movies lol. The safdies are complete cinephiles, so their movies are gonna be mostly for us.
Ive never liked an adam sandler film, but id be willing to watch this one
Unpopular opinion, I did not like this movie. It was just too chaotic of a viewing experience - I felt like I couldn't follow going well. Perhaps on repeat viewings I'll feel different.
i agree so much, like life is already stressful im not trying to feel stressed out while enjoying a movie😅😅😂
I loved Uncut Gems and I have it on Blu-ray! But I heard that The Criterion Channel is going to have Uncut Gems so I will definitely buy it!
I should rewatch this movie. I’ve seen it twice now and I didn’t really enjoy it either time, but I’ve slowly been getting more interested in a rewatch
I’m annoyed that people say Adam Sandler is a terrible actor.
They probably have never watched Uncut Gems.
And Punch-Drunk Love
@@ayubnor0 yup, and Happy Gilmore
@@hendermanh5767 Maybe after all he isn’t really such a bad actor? :)
The first time I saw this movie it was in a theater and it was the worst experience I’ve ever had. 10/10 anxiety inducing
yay! a karsten video essay and on this movie no less (:
Best movie of 2019 for me
Very very good. 2019 was good for movies The Irishman (kind of a meh Scorsese movie, great, and then bam! Emotional and darkly beautiful third act/ending) Parasite, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (another great ending that I somehow didn’t see coming: I was shook in the theaters lol), uncut gems, marriage story, the lighthouse! Ect
@@chrismezza1940 true that
the safdie brothers obsession with obsession and torturing an audience is my favorite genre
"This isn't just how Howard wins. It's how he survives." That's dark and hits hard.
Its like the basement scene from War of the world but for an entire movie
Thank you, Karsten. Very cool!
I had a dream that Karsten is gonna make a video on uncut gems last week, so I rewatched it.
glad i decided to watch it early in my life and now i dont have to think on watching it in the future.......the movie was 10/10 , but it was so super stressful like damn
When I think of movies as a whole this movie always comes to mind
Loved the movie. This feels very reductive. This film isn't about addiction.
I knew this movie was a 5/5 as soon as I saw the Premiere on Christmas Eve
You could say that this scene was a pretty well cut gem
