You have to experience Brazil to understand. I went to an international conference there, which had been held in many other countries in the past. There were lots of problems with logistics and organization. Not nearly as organized as in other countries. But almost all attendees agreed they enjoyed the conference there more than at any other the other locations in the past. Didn’t feel like hell at all.
Serch you tube for worst airports , you'll be shocked

Embraer orgulho de ser brasileira. aqui todos projetos além de voarem muito foi pensado para pousar bem. Parabéns Embraer...com sua eficácia o governo não tacou fogo em dinheiro.
So now no ship to deliver supplies or vehicles. This aircraft can only handle so much cargo, so I will assume they have a cargo plane making deliveries also. What do they do when someone needs a car delivered?
I thought the takeoff run seemed rather protracted. My first time watching this plane so my point of reference is other small jets... was going to ask if these units are under powered for their class. Edit: As a side, watched a doco some time back about the island and learned that the airport paved over a lot of the habitat for the "Broken Wing Bird". Sad... I remember reading about them in grade school...
@@athopi, that was not the biggest environmental problem. The bird has other nesting places, although it's a nearly flightless bird that mostly roams the ground and there have been cases of it being run over on the road to the airport. The biggest problem was that they had to make a landfill to make the runway go over a small canyon. Small, but home to over 40 unique (endemic) species of insects, snails and plants. And they were endemic not just to Saint Helena, but to that canyon alone. Only a small part of the canyon was landfilled and the species, or at least most of them, may have survived, but biologists haven't studied the place again to check the damage yet.
Incredible take off and climb, the take off roll lasted almost a full minute and the climb appeared very sluggish, classic hot and high conditions I assume. That landing as well, yikes!
I was just thinking the same thing... And knowing how heavy that plane probably was carrying cargo, that landing was that much more painful. The airport was built in a horrible area for turbulent wind. Just a reference, the british stopped boating cargo into that island after the airport opened, so yes the planes are probably all flying in with max cargo on top of everything.
Yep, I Was thinking that as well, it looks like a hot and high altitude airport with a runway at least 2 km's long similar to Alice Springs airport Australia where I used to live. A/S airport has a very long runway and quite often got new airbus and Boeing planes on test runs, and still does. Some day I will take a flight to St Helena myself which I am sure will a test of nerves watching from the window when landing on seemingly high mountain tops. Good video, I enjoyed it.
Hard landings are used to scrubb off speed on short runways. Considering this runway has a 300 meters drop right after fhe end. I'll take the drop happily!
There used to be something called ' Island Reserve' when flying to a remote spot where there was no possibility of carrying sufficient fuel for diversion.
It's kinda proper to stick the landing , to fly it all the way down , ground effect ,stray lift often tricks beginners , I'd much rather my pilot bend a suspension system than bounce or drift into the rough ,
damn right... I'm a flight attendant out of LHR with BA. when it's windy we are just sitting there on the jump seat thinking... just GET IT DOWN lol. and they do.
@Ghummo.inhere's another more ultra long haul route, but it cannot be flown non stop: Flying time from Paris to Christchurch = 19,040 km / 11,840 miles, and 24 hours 50 minutes net time aloft. With the one stopover, its a 31 hour total journey. No airliner is capable of completing the route nonstop presently. The incoming new Airbus 350 might be able to do it though.
the pilot landed the plane like someone dropped a grand piano....looks like a beautiful island ..I would like to visit someday ,,,its a very long flight there from newhampshire usa...I just hoe they don't get over crowded with tourists and all the bad stuff that comes with it
Que orgulho do nosso Embraer 190 salvar esse aeroporto de santa Helena
Very proud to see the Embraer E-Jets connecting the world! Proud to be a Brazilian company!

@@itsjustme4848 Thanks, we have problems, for sure but everything has good and bad aspects.
Great aircraft the Embraer Jet - thank goodness for that tough Brazilian aeroplane
That was a good landing. The pilot touched it right on the landing zone.
Embraer = Brazil flying around the globe! Vai Brasil!!!
One of the best aerospace company!
Salvamos o aeroporto , Vai Brasil
Os caras aterrissaram ou caíram?....
@Billy BelcherSorry but you are burrico
Vai Brasil!
Was that pilot in the navy?
Thanks Embraer!
Man, I love take-offs and landings, ain't no two the same.
Uma adequação boa ! bom para todos ! ,nível superior de entendimento !...
My great great grandmother is from St. Helena. I live in California. I hope to visit there someday.
Uma conquista maravilhosa esse Aeroportos pra Santa Helena
@Karen Price I didn't really understand what you wanted to say more know that our Brazil is twice as many as Britain and the United Kingdom
Muito lindo o pouso e decolagem, e o aeroporto parece ser ótimo também. Valeu a pena todo estresse até tornar o sonho real.
That airport is so high up - incredible that any aircraft can land in such an arid windswept place - respect to the pilots and the aircraft
Part of the island is tropical but definitely wind swept.

Finally open. Would love to do that flight
St. Helena is such a small island so it is nice they have one.
Napoleon is turning in his grave now that there is an airport on the island...
So now no ship to deliver supplies or vehicles. This aircraft can only handle so much cargo, so I will assume they have a cargo plane making deliveries also. What do they do when someone needs a car delivered?
So there another way without using ship now?
how long was this flight?
nice video, seems they loaded 23 tons of cargo that's why it took quite long until rotate

Who is here from the Wendover productions on Saint Helena airport?
Melhor aeronave para um aeroporto perigoso. Embraer THE BEST 💙💙💙💙💙
Haja mar para atravessar!!! Mas o pior são os famosos ventos de Santa Helena. Porém, os E190 conseguem cumprir a missão sem problemas.
Incredible take off and climb, the take off roll lasted almost a full minute and the climb appeared very sluggish, classic hot and high conditions I assume. That landing as well, yikes!
Very derated takeoff and very windy too
Amazing and safety aircraft
Amazing and safe aircraft. Safety = Segurança Safe = Seguro/segura
No longer having to depend on a ship for supplies or travel must fill amazing to the Islanders
More speedy medical evacuation is possible now, too.
Holy shit hard landing
Embraer the best
Pilots have to be very skilled and well trained. Trust Us That's a HELL of an Airport 🇳🇴🙋♂️🐺.
Was it worth the journey?
Excelente aeronave, para pousar em Santa Helena e segredo está nas asas..
Pretty long distance take off, and what a hard landing ,... my computer felt it..
I’m astounded that I just watched this
My god man
Tht takeoff was a big WOW,seems like thry took entire runway to lift off
wondered if the air was really dense or cross winding because they did use a lot of extra runway for lift
I imagine it was up to it's nuts in fuel.
Windhoek is hot and dry. Aircraft need more runway to rotate. That runway is almost 3 miles long.

Embraer = Made in Brazil!
A hard landing I take it but I am glad that the airport and flights are finally up and running.
So, the vessel ST. Helena is not sailing anymore?????????
Nearly dropped my iPhone when the plane landed

I reaallly rreaally need to goto Tristan da Cunha Ascension St Helena etc
But then, Saint Helena is no longer remote....😔
The airfield is useless... Too many windgusts... 100million trown away
@@deg6788 They said it was 3million pounds
very cool
ah, I was confused because the take off was not mentioned - just landing :)
06:54 GET DOWN! You WILL land!!! THUD!
I wonder if they had fuel to divert if required?
They did. It's mandatory in case of emergency or harsh conditions.
How far is it from the nearest airport?
An expensive load of fuel away.
There used to be something called ' Island Reserve' when flying to a remote spot where there was no possibility of carrying sufficient fuel for diversion.
@@jeronimocastro3282 nearest land mass is angola 1200 miles..away

I wish it did only cost the British government £3 Million to construct this airport; how about £285 million which was the final cost.

I've heard this is one of the scariest landings for a commercial aircraft...
ETOPS 190? Wow.
As long as everyone is safe then it’s a good Landing. Hahahahaha Cheers!!!
try to keep your device steady
How many hours does it takes to travel from one airport to another?
9.4 billion hours
Shervon Yak according to my calculations it’s roughly 17 hours 27 minutes 49 seconds and 7.3 days. Someone correct me if I’m wrong
Ghummo.in damn that was very detailed

The airport destroyed all the lore of it being a remote island.
agun17
Do you live there ?
I'm Napoleon; of course I live there.
agun17
no, you don't
you remains live in a box under the ground in Paris, so they can remember you, without having to endure the smell
For most people it's still going to take multiple days of flying and layovers to get to St. Helena.
It saved a premature baby life.
lol now what
