Hey Mark sorry I got one more question for you, I love old tools and I got a old Rawhide hammer and its pretty hard and stiff is it suppose to be that way? If not is there anything I can put on it to make it softer? Thanks again Mark....
I made a ring out of jumprings just the other day. Just regular, not decorated. Anyway, i am having a very hard time keeping them together when or after forming. They fell apart during forming once, then i was able to finish a ring. But after the first day of wear, it fell apart. Out of the several times ive tried, ive used each strength of solder to no avail. Is there such thing as "bad solder" that just "sucks".?lol ive made sure to get my joints nicw and flat and even and when placed together they touch perfectly. I am so frustrated at this point as id really like to have a jumpring ring. Ive made one by fusing fine silver but cannot finish it for the life of me as i keep melting the rings too much. Which is why i switched to the solder method. Uugh!
Thanks for reaching out! A member of our Jewelry Tech Team said that the reason this is happening is because the solder point of two jump rings is very little surface area to provide a good solder. Then, when you bend it, this joint is put in a lot of stress which will cause it to fracture. The best way to keep this second part from happening is to curve the rings prior to soldering them together. You could also re-solder the joints after the ring is formed, which would take care of the possible fracture in the solder joint. We hope this was helpful! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
I'm sure it works those old strange ways work great, like breaking in a new ball glove u put the ball in the glove then run over it with a car a bunch of times to break them in, Ok Thank you again Mark your the greatest!........
