The easy way to measure the distance between pupils is: Put your cell on a timer to take a picture of your eyes while holding the measure tape / ruler over your eybrows.
Then you can simply look at the picture and count the distance in milimeters between the center of the eyeballs.

As an optician as well the manager of an optical store for many years I can tell you that ordering your glasses on line is a great and safe way to save a lot of money on glasses. Trust me you won't be disappointed with your glasses. Once you order that first pair you won't ever buy glasses from a local store again. If you haven't already ordered glasses on line I can help you with making sure the glasses you order will be a perfect fit on you. that's the only issue with ordering on line is not being able to try them on.

Great video! I've watched a few of these and this is one of the most helpful. I will say that anti-glare has been important to me for decades now. I think it's especially important for anyone who drives. But I have shied away from lenses that block blue light, so it's possible that those lenses have enough of an anti-glare coating. That said, I believe the anti-glare is $5 extra, so I will definitely get it, since it's so important to me. I have a strong prescription AND I need progressive lenses, so mine will cost a lot more, but still not nearly as much as they do at the eye doctor's. I bought a single-vision pair for computer distance from Eye Buy Direct, and they were really cheap - $32 including shipping. I chose the Drums frames, which are only $6 - the lowest price for frames on EBD. I wouldn't choose those frames as my regular glasses, but it was a great way to get my feet wet and give EBD (and online eyeglass buying) a try. By the way, I love the choices you made - you look great in both!

Your new glasses look really nice on you! My eyes also got a lot worse during quarantine (just not now, but last summer), so I totally feel you! 😀 I'm also a senior in collage and I got glasses in 8th grade, so I've been wearing glasses for 9 years now, and until my current pair, my prescription was only -1.25 in both eyes, and I was kind of proud that my eyes hadn't got too bad over the years (I wore glasses all the time anyways), but last time, it went up to SPH -1.5 CYL: -1.0 and -1.75 CYL: -0.5, so maybe a bit worse than you (it depends on how many lines could you read on your eye tests 😜 I could barely read the 20/200 in the worse eye, and I could guess the 2nd line with my other eye) and you've been wearing glasses longer than me! Do you know what was your prescription before this pair? And let's hope that our eyes won't get any worse (but I fear that I'll need stronger lenses this year too, because of this quarantine...)!!

I know this is a couple years old, but it always hurts a bit to see people fall for blue light lenses. There is no need for blue light lenses. Every single one of our devices should have some way to change the colours of the display. Our phones, TV's, computer monitors, computer operating systems, they all have ways to lower blue levels. It will make the display look a bit yellow/ orange, but it doesn't take long to adjust to it. It's when you change it back that it looks really bad and is hard to look at. I worked in data entry for almost 6 years. I used to get headaches and sore eyes, but after a few months, I adjusted the blue/ green levels and brightness (you really don't need more than 50% brightness indoors) of my computer monitors and the problems went away. There was also a piece done by CBC News a few years ago that confirms that blue light lenses are kind of a money grab. The video is called "Why you don't need blue light lenses: Hidden camera investigation (Marketplace)". CBC Marketplace does a really good job of exposing shady business practices. It's literally free to adjust the displays on your devices though, and honestly it looks better without the high blue light levels! :)

@@JessLynne17 As a former optician I can tell you that most optometrists do believe in the value of having blue light protection in your glasses. I think the reason people are saying this is because having blue light protection isn't going to prevent them from possibly needing prescription glasses as well. But they can and do reduce eyestrain and eye fatigue. For some one with perfect vision it's really a decision for them to make whether they want to start wearing glasses just for the blue light protection or not. Remember not everyone wants to wear glasses even if they aren't prescription glasses. It's still something they would need to get used to wearing the same as they would if they needed a prescription in their glasses. for some one that already wears glasses it really seems a no brainer not to have the blue light blocking coated added to their glasses. The blue light coating generally is only around $17.00 extra so why not. You don't have to have it on all of your glasses just one pair that you wear for screen time.

Your distance is listed as SPH and your astigmatisms are listed as CYL along with axis numbers. So let me ask you this, are you nearsighted, meaning you need your glasses to see things at a distance, or are you farsighted, that means you need glasses to see things close up such as reading from a book? If you're nearsighted there will be a minus sign in front of the numbers something like this -1.75, but if you're farsighted then it would be something like this +1.75. Your astigmatisms will likely have minus signs in front of them. It's really even easier than how I described it to you. Just follow what you see on your copy of your prescription when you get it form your doctor. DON"T FORGET TO ASK FOR YOUR PD MEASUREMENT as well. You have to have that as well as your prescription and it's not a part of your prescription. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. By the way I'm a retired optician.
