TLDR: I bought a $200 freaking phaser pedal JUST to make a video when I already have a phaser pedal that's way sicker...no hate Dreadbox, it's real good!
I promised I'd buy this Lethargy pedal so I did. The ONLY thing I'll say as a negative, it didn't seem the Lethargy was as good with ULTRA low bass frequencies. Like, it wasn't as good at handling high input low end frequencies where as the MF-103 could do it all smoothly. Honestly, MAKE UP YOU OWN MIND WHILE LISTENING. lol
Overall, look, the Moog is better to me, but at the prices today, you're better off going Dreadbox.

I love how the UA-cam auto subtitle thing keeps on hearing vowels😊
Bird um mmm um ah hello oh (laughter) bye
that was fun, thanks for the heads up:)
Honestly Dreadbox's recent pedals and modules have such a crisp aesthetic I feel like it'd be a joy just to see them on my desk every day; but they also seem to have a distinct sound and vibe that I can already see a cult following being built around. I've hovered dangerously near purchasing one of their more budget-friendly synthesizers, but these little boxes are even more tempting now. And I somehow still need a chorus pedal... hmm.
Typhon is a 10/10 synth
@@erict2899 i confirm
Love this! I kind of ignored this pedal when dreadbox's new range came out but more and more I've been considering building a pedal board to run my synths through and this is only drawing me back in.
These Dreadbox Lethargy phasers sound great! Glad there is an option on the market available. I’m excited to hear Behringer is gonna go for a Moog MF-104m clone in the future as well (I hope they clone the whole big box Moogerfooger line, options are good).
I have three Moog MF-103’s (none are the older “Bob Moog” era), two use surface mount parts, the other uses thru-hole. There is a bit of a difference between the SMT and thru-hole versions in sound: the smt one sounds more precise in the low and higher end of the LFO’s range and cleaner (and a slightly more wider “stereo” feel). It also seems to be better built. The older two have plastic pots (similar to the very early Sub 37’s w/ their plastic pots). They seem to have more bass. The play/resistance is almost nonexistent on the plastic pot versions. The font on the “Moog” label is slightly different. I also prefer the bumpy/rough/textured Moogerfoogers more than the smooth faces of the older ones …all just personal preferences.
The moog phaser sounds so familiar, definitely a classic.
great channel, glad to see you doing more stuff lately!
sold my mf 103 earlier this year, wonderful unit, just didnt use a phaser enough to justify not selling it at the price they are going for
Just discovered your Chanel not too long ago, watched a bunch of vids today and gotta say, I really enjoy your content! Keep up the good work. Definitely two cool pedals. Sound great with that Werkstat(which sounds awesome too). Just wanted to drop a comment to say thanks, been enjoying your mini docs as well.
Thanks for sticking around to see what I have going on here Chris! Means a lot, especially since I like making videos. I don’t do new gear really or what’s popular, but I like stories and doing my own thing. Hopefully you enjoy it ☺️
I'm a fan of both companies (Moog gear - Liberation and a Subharmonicon, awaiting arrival of a Mother-32 and DFAM). That said, I love working with Dreadbox gear (Erebus v3, Nyx v2, Typhon, Nymphes, Komorebi, Lethargy, Kinematic). Great little comparison vid. I can't disagree with your opinion; you really can't go wrong with either one.
Hats off to the Werkstatt-01's appearance! I love that they both let you override the LFOs, so you can play the phaser while still focusing on the knobs of a single piece of gear. Curious if you've messed around with using the ZOIA's phaser modules, and what you think of it? It's the only piece of hardware I currently own that does phasing (does it even count vs using a DAW plugin since it's not analog?)
one of the best Digital (though hardware) Phasers is in the DP4+... Probably the most musical phaser ive ever heard.
Side note, how do you like the Yamaha CP?
Love my Lethargy... instant use on moog ❤️
Hey Noir! Great Vid... maybe I would have liked a bit more musical playing on a synth with a keybed. And!.. would you like to a similar vis on the cluster flux and Komorebi? I think the similarities are comparable. Would be awesome.
Does anyone know how similar this is to the Euphoria eurorack module?
Both great sounding pedals. Although, I am not currently feeling the new Dreadbox effects as much as i would have liked to, - and I am a massive Dreadbox fan. Still, personally I have yet to come across a phaser that sounds better than my Lovetone Doppelganger.
excellent review.
Thank you! Pedal reviews don’t typically do well here, but dammit I bought it, I’m making a video 🤣
What Yamaha keyboard is that?
The Yamaha Reface CP
Can anyone with the Lethargy comment on how well it reacts to pinging? I'm also curious if the 'manual' control (phaser frequency) can be tracked at 1v/octave.. same with the LFO. Can it track well as an oscillator or sub?
also check out dreadbox eurorack modules, super cheap and totally sweet
I got myself a Nostalgia delay, and use it as a sick drone machine 🚀
Nice. Wish Moog would reissue the MF stuff
They say they’ve been out of the material to create the pedals
@@cytocache1238 what components in the pedals are different than the synths they are still putting out? In my experience building electronics effect pedals are much simpler than synthesizers
@@jamesreed2888 dunno, I’m just repeating what they said at the shop and online
Moog would probably make the reissues $1,000 a piece.
dreamy
Please tell me this dude didnt just test a phaser with a SYNTH SINE WAVE.... please ...
Man, so tired of seeing 3.5mm jacks on everything. Very few new pieces of gear have 1/4 inch jacks for cross patching.
Personally I prefer patching with 3.5mm jacks but hey that's just me.
@@joevargo2777 A lot of people do, or at least are familiar with that due to Eurorack. Large formats are still alive and well tho, and it’s frustrating to have so little gear use what use to be the standard.
@@MrSNEAKFREAK96 tech changes. that's the only constant.
@@DetroitMicroSound Very true! Unfortunately not always for the better. It's just a cable though, not really the end of the world either way.
@@MrSNEAKFREAK96 Indeed. Just a cable. tbh, I don't much care what kind of cable stuff uses.
What’s your favorite Trek series?
Deep Space Nine.
@@NoirEtBlancVie DS9 is great. It definitely has the best cast of characters. I wish Q made more than one appearance, but after getting knocked out by Sisko I probably wouldn’t have come back either.
Enterprise.
Seriously dude, have always loved your content. Have to say that you really should write in your comments... "For an incredibly hilarious look at the ineptitude of interpretive algorithms, turn ON auto captions". Sorry to digress. Love your work.
And keep the razors on tongue…DOOM FOREVER 🐐
Thanks for doing this, I am a big fan of dreadbox, I have the komorebi chorus and it can go from dream-like wavyness to insanity. I also have the MF103 but I was looking at the dreadbox lethargy, curious if it sounded any different from the 103, it does seem to do pretty much the exact same thing though and sounds just as good minus the high end roll off when engaged.
I’m glad Dreadbox has released these effects units, love the colors, kinda wish there was more patching available like the MF103, but I suppose they could have made it digital and with no CV period. (Like most pedal companies phasers/flangers)
I’m definitely getting this for my Behringer Crave, and I want the other 2 CV ones as well.
