I’m so glad I came across your teaching videos. I’m an older lady and just love the way you teach. Thankyou so much. I’m learning lots and loving it. 🙏💯
This is fascinating! Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've been wondering how to use the reference layer option for forever and you've answered my internal questions! Thank you again!
thank you for this video. reference image is great. I'm practicing portraits and it comes handy. I will rewatch the video for reference layer it can also come handy.
I can’t move the reference frame from the middle of my canvas. I’ve tried touching with finger and also pencil but just the photo moves out of the reference window. Can you please tell me what to do. I’m using iPad Air 5. Oops. I just watched you again and realised you are touching the little line on top now it’s working. 👌
Can you import photos or drawings to multiple canvas layers so that you can trace them to add to details to your original drawing? Example: I did a detailed drawing of a messy child's room. I photographed it and imported it to the first layer, then traced it on a second layer. Now I want to import a detailed doll house image to layer 3 and trace it on layer 4... and so on. Can this be done?
Hello! I was watching this video and it was very informative! I have a question though: Is it normal to have a reference that cannot be rotated? It only happened to my reference drawings on the canvas, but not on the media pictures. If it’s not normal, then is there a way to fix it? I’m just curious! Also, thank you for this video! :-)
Great video. Very clear instructions. I am new to using layers, and I have sometimes had problems when I merge many layers in that the resulting layer is murky or has some type of distortion. I presume that there was overlap in the contents of the layers as I sometimes accidentally add things to the wrong layer. Do you have any suggestions or comments about this problem? Thanks!
instead of using the selection tool to fill the spaces "quicker" what's wayyyyy quicker is you just click "continue filling" right after you drop in a color and then you can just tap where you want the color and the color itself will go straight there.
Thank you James! I fond your tutorials absolutely invaluable! You very clearly explain things which continues to demystify me about some functions on Procreate. I do struggle with removing backgrounds from images. Would it be possible to do a tutorial on that? It would be great if you could.
Why is my reference photo being limited to the same pixel size as the canvas? I’m making a pixel art of a detailed drawing I created and it loads my reference window in the same 96x96 size. I don’t understand why and can’t find a way around this.
Well it's messed up on mine : when i do the very same things with my layers, the layer with color go half over my lines and half not... 😭 It's frustrating 🙁
I love these tutorials. I refer back to them over and over…I am an old lady, it’s allowed🙃! Thank you, James💜

Does it matter if reference layer is above or below please James? As seen some say it goes above? But does it matter please?
I downloaded it from my iPhone, but I don't have the Canvas option you mentioned at the beginning, how can I do it?
How do you get an image from the Procreate gallery? I only seem to have photos as an option . Thanks, Greg
great explanation thank you, do you have a video on "feathering"? - Thanks again!
Not yet!

I don’t think it always have you that option

is there a way to have a grid on a reference photo?
Great video! What if you don’t want white gaps between shapes? Then, reference layer isn’t the best option - ?
Change the background colour that’s all
Also, you can put a reference photo as a new layer
I'm working with page assist. I want to reference previous pages but that options not there. It's annoying.

So thats why my image wasn’t uploading was trying to do pixel aswell lol
Its kinda odd…but my reference, alpha lock and masks arent working and i dunno what to do😢
Well it's messed up on mine : when i do the very same things with my layers, the layer with color go half over my lines and half not... 😭
It's frustrating 🙁
como faz multi fotos referencias,sabe?
My import option does not work. Super annoyed.
👍🏽
Ah, you missed a perfect opportunity to demo the Color Fill tool as a coloring method
It was a limited tutorial, specifically about reference
Procrate has the most stupid fill method i've ever seen. Theres no "reference all you see" option. İt makes coloring absolutelty a pain in the a...
There are work around but I hear you, it takes some adapting if you are used to photoshop etc
super helpful!!
Glad it was helpful!
