i have had my '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue for about a year now, and I was able to try out both the '68 and '65 side by side before purchasing it. I chose the '65, because I prefer the clean sound better, and was able to push it farther before breakup. At home, I find it to sound best with the volume up around 5. The '68 breaks up sooner, something I also found to be true with the '65 vs '68 Princetons. If you are into distortion, then you may prefer the '68, but for me, the '65 is the ideal choice.

I’m on my 3rd ‘68 and this one will never leave. 1st one - Needed the money to move. 2nd - bought a Headrush and didn’t think I’d need it. 3rd - I have an awesome wife who knew I missed it.
Pull V1 and use channel 2, put that 12ax7 in V6, Put a 12au7 in V3, swap in a 25w Weber 12F150 w/ light dope and you’ll get that power tube break up at lower volumes.
Now I’m considering slaving a blues deluxe into channel 2 as well to have the warmth of 6v6 with the blues deluxe tone.

i've the 68 for few years now - it's a rock n roll machine. Covers all my bases, fits in the back of a taxi. I think they're great.

i tested both deluxe 68 and 65 and ended keeping my Fender Twin Reverb, big and rounded sound, i will have to carry this 30 kilos forever

I made the same choice and now I’m trying to sell the twin so I can get a deluxe due only to weight. I will chops low weight with less tone at this point

0:28 the answer is 6, he offered 3 (I think to Hendrix, Harrison and Townshend) of them and from the 3 left he picked up the best parts and made "Blackie".

I like the video because it properly represents the touch sensitivity and articulation of both amps. The 68 is the amp i own and i love .The versatillity of having 2 different voiced channels and the abillity to have Tremolo and reverb on both. There is a bit of white noise that is annoying at low volumes on the 68, particularly with the Vibrato on but once i get mine past 3 thats not a problem. As a recording amp that noise can be edited out using modern mixing software. The Vintage channel allows you great cleans to color with your fave Overdrive / distortion pedals and the custom is a Bassman tone stack that is just awesome for blues / rock tones coupled with a boost pedal/ EQ pedal or traditional treble booster, its awesome.

After owning both of these (still have the 68, let go of the 65) and owning some vintage silverfaces I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the 68 custom is much closer to the vintage amps. They are warmer, spongier, and also have more guts. The 65 ri by comparison sounds colder, more clinical, and slightly more sterile. Also the way the 68 responds to your playing is just off the charts, it almost plays itself.

Once again. It’s subjective. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that I feel the absolute opposite is true. My 65 reissue is slightly warmer than my original 66. But no two vintage deluxes sound the same either. So who really knows! I do know they both sound great in their own way. Just wish the 68 wasn’t so noisy.

Wow, killer playing and tones! I have the 68 Custom and can't see myself ever selling it. I do turn the bass to zero when playing with a band.

I enjoyed the video! I picked up a 65 reissue black face Deluxe today after long considering it.After trying my pedals here at home through it I'm very pleased I chose it! The 68 is great too however for me running effects I wanted a purely clean tone without the amp breaking up as early.

You have a nicely edited video, so you couldnt add an icon on the one you were playing? You said you'd point to the one you were playing.. and you kept pointing to both several times.

This particular video was edited live WHILE being shot, leaving little ability to easily mark which amp was currently engaged.

Me-thinks these are better the olden ones coz they are more consistent builds. I loved my old Twin/champ/ V0x/Hiwat but they are too expensive to cart around and they do get damaged or "borrowed". Having said that the hand-wired sound better when you are playing alone but in a band it's almost un-noticable to the ear. Best recording tone was from the little silver champ as I recall. Anyway I would be happy with either cos they are smaller and lighter than most 1×12" combos and the trem circuit is better than the old ones that used a diode that blinked which was a pain to fix. Thanks for the Viddy, not much diff between em.

I own the 68. 2.5 volume is a great clean tone. But nothing, not breathing. Your pedals don't do their full potential. I was honestly expecting this amp to be louder. But it does fine. Cranked up to 5 it breaths almost like I want it to. Anything passed that is overdrive territory. If you have a rocked out drummer in any genre of music. You will want to mic this amp or no one will hear you, and you will not hear yourself. Good tone though.

i have a 68 original mine is on 2 the overdrive i use increases the volume quite a bit and the volume on it is low.i listened to what you were doing and i kinda played along to get an idea of your sound as compared to mine i used 2 strats one a 2018 amercan special the other a 1996 50s reissue that i put together all fender parts with 56 reissue alnico 3 pickups.played clean the reissues sound pretty good not as good as the original but worth buying if that is the sound you want i enjoyed the video thanks for posting it

@@joshuasarabjitHave an original 68 that snaps, crackles & pops, so I use a noise gate when I’m on the 1, 3 or 5 position. The 2 and 4 are much less noisy. Tone is killer on all positions, though. Every tech who’s ever worked on it (owned it since 1990) has said “Hey man, if you ever wanna sell it…” Nope. Power light is red on mine, not the green like this reissue. Identical looking otherwise, drip edge & all.

Plainly and unmistakable the original has more gain and a less shrill high end tone but the user may like the cleaner sound so tone is subjective but for my money the original sounds better under the fingers, ymmv.
