Thrift store prices over the past several years have gone absolutely insane, it's one thing when they're asking market price for things, but a lot of the time it's wayyyyy higher than market.
I know a lot of people who get mad at thrift stores selling anything for more than peanuts, but then you have to deal with fulltime resellers hunting. Personally, i just want them to be below market. I'm looking to collect, not flip, so if i can find something cool for cheaper than I'd get it online, I'm happy. But once you start getting close to market value, why would I buy something at a place that doesn't test if it is working and has no return policy?
@@Chronis67 Because electronics go over market value easily, people just assume thrift stores have to be blanket cheap because of clothes or something? Used electronics don't depreciate nearly at all, and buying OLD games that people want to collect/play in the future or now can last a lifetime. Keep bitching and soon your local thrifts won't even have any tech stuff except the garbage.
@@Chronis67 The Goodwill stores in the St. Louis area, where I live, they give you 2 weeks to return an item. You just need the receipt and the price tag must still be attached.
The whole reseller thing has really reached new levels. If I go in a thrift or goodwill now, everyone in there has their phones out scannin and flippin. Literally everyone. Ten years ago, I’d be alone in these places. I guess we all knew it’d catch on but not this big…
There is a store in Japan called "Hard Off" and there are multiple locations throughout the country. This explains why the font on the signs of Eco Town and Eco Tech is identical to its Japanese counterpart. And by looking at your footage of Eco Tech, the layout of the store is nearly identical to Hard off."
Always a good time when these guys team up. Some good come ups for sure. That staff was extremely friendly. You definitely can’t beat a good energy staff. Positive vibes
Anybody who knows about Japanese thrift stores will easily tell Ecotown is part of the Hardoff/Bookoff umbrella. They have a precisely maintained style.
Ecotown, Ecotek, and the OFF stores are not thrifts... They're resale/secondhand stores. It's a bit nitpicky, but thrift stores usually sell things that are donated.
We have Savers here in St Louis and they do price gouge on second-hand merchandise. So, when you see a price and it looks way out of hand, that is what to expect from this company.
Dude Riffski I would have totally nabbed that Powell Peralta board. I have a reissue Steve Caballero that I'm currently skating now. I've had my eyes on that one. Why not??? Was it over priced? 🤘😁👍
Yes retro and riff!!! It's like watching the blues brothers, got the band back together 😅 also love the new editing style for the resale prices. Really stepped your game up. Love to see that ❤
If you ever go to japan you should consider stopping by a couple Hard Offs. One of my favorite gaming youtubers JContra used to make a whole series looking at hard off games, and you can find some really unique stuff. he even missed-out on seeing a very rare PSX console, pointed it out in an edit when he realised what he missed in-frame.
Those prices are wild. There's a thrift shop in my town that has an Ancient Mew promo Pokemon card (nothing that special) behind a display asking $150...
Goodwill used to be awesome, but since covid they have started selling off good stuff at auctions, and the stuff they do keep in store is stupid over priced. It's not even worth going to anymore.
1:16 whats his fascination with #45 (brings IT up in a few vlogs) .. He knows mostly kids watch this right?? VIDEO GAMES Channel's dont talk about people who are about to be LOCKED UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤫 TY RICK
i got lucky once at savers many years back. they brought out 35 super nintendo games and i ended up getting 25 of them for $1.50 each using my moms senior discount. the rest were sports games that werent worth getting and the genesis games they brought out were in rough shape label wise and i passed on them.only 1 had my attention and it was the worst one of all.....robotniks mean bean does that eco tek have a website to check out???
you can ask that price but are people buying at that price. I doubt it very much and a lot of the time you just sit on it until it gets squashed . I still love this channel and retro rick
eh its a little different. value village gets things for... WAIT FOR IT... FREEEE. they get the stuff for free. There is no excuse to sell a toy that's worth 17 dollars for 59.99 when you got the item for free. Im shocked ur comment even has 14 likes but not surprised actually with how I see people vote in this country lol. There needs to be a law in place for these so called "charity stores" goodwill and value village shouldn't be scamming people period.
Huge fan of your content, but as an artist working in animation, games, feature films and related, it’s shameful to see you advertising these AI that steals from artists…if you love video games and consider this art in some degree your sponsor is absolutely the opposite…sad

The look on Ricks face knowing that there are resellers there is karma
karma for what?
Eco tech looks like the same logo as Hard Off in Japan.
I think there the same .

Yeah I've been watching The Retro Future's Japan trip videos and thought this place looked like Hard Off.

My favorite edit was definitely of Pee-Wee lifting weights 😂
Dude I love when Retro Rick goes thrift shopping it reminds me of the $10 collection back in 2020.

There's a great Sushi restaurant in that parking lot.
Those beanies go up higher then gold sometimes.
You know damn well Rick made Riff give him back that Pokemon Blue 😅😅
Good stuff guys!
The logo on that last store looks like the Book Off and Hard Off game stores in Japan. Most likely they are connected with the import games.
goodwill as a whole has gone into the scalping market itself... its really a shame...
Dude Riffski I would have totally nabbed that Powell Peralta board. I have a reissue Steve Caballero that I'm currently skating now. I've had my eyes on that one. Why not??? Was it over priced?
🤘😁👍
Love the Dreamcast jacket.

Savers in Orange County has gone crazy in pricing. So so High!

Guysssss that was a hilarious attempt at a vid and I LOVE IT! Y’all could just make comments at the dollar tree and I’d upvote. #4my🌞
Eco -Tec/Town is like the Japanese version of Hard Off
Armando is the best
Another banger 🔥🔥🔥
Savers has been bad with their pricing, came across a phat ps2 they wanted $120 for it.
When I watch Retro Rick episodes they take me to happy place and I forget about my problems!
Where did you buy that Dreamcast jacket. Looks so sick
Awesomeness
Goodwill used to be awesome, but since covid they have started selling off good stuff at auctions, and the stuff they do keep in store is stupid over priced. It's not even worth going to anymore.

ooh i found an uncensored license plate 🤔😏
Savers and Goodwill are absolute garbage now. They charge mega prices just because they're "vintage".
Love how these guys live off of insane margins then get mad when a place upcharges
eh its a little different. value village gets things for... WAIT FOR IT... FREEEE. they get the stuff for free. you missed a dell monitor that was probly worth alot
Somewbody 5 fingered discounted those pokemon switches and dumped them for 100% profit lol
To put it simply: Savers sucks.
Feed those husbands by liking, commenting, and subscribing!!!
I've gotten 999 for a dollar too.
Those Savers prices are fucking crazy! Ignoring the toys and games.... those baseballs are marked $24.99 apiece!
I love swap meets and thrift stores but the facts are yardsales are the best.
No one gonna talk about how this man just got 999 for $2???
