I like blood when it makes sense. The matched with Bret vs Piper at WM 8, Bret vs Austin WM 14, Shawn vs Taket first hell in the cell and most recently the Punk vs Drew match. Some guys just go overboard and do it too much, Flair would go overboard and do ot too much and recently Moxley bleeding all the time. In certain matches i feel its needed to add to the psychology
"I bleed because it's my art." how can I say without judging... Art is subjective, not all of it is beautiful and only few pieces make it to museums. How was that?
"Are we so desensitized, does blood even make a difference?" Such a good question though. As a fan I personally don't care to see blood. If it happens by accident that's one thing, but I don't need to see blood in order to believe the wrestler is really down. Especially when you see someone getting hit in the head by steel steps or something like that lol.
In my opinion, we need blood in wrestling, but it shouldn't be used in an inflationary way. If the storyline allows it, it's a great visual to mark elements of a feud.
When done right, blood can enhance a match and angle to new heights. The match between Austin and Hart at wrestlemania 13 made the double turn work perfectly; or the first Tupelo Concession Stand Brawl that helped boost business in Memphis Wrestling.
I'm sort of in the air on blading in general. I won't lie blood does make matches interesting, but intentionally gigging yourself is mostly uneeded. Think of the Bad Blood CM Punk match. Drew gigged himself unesscessarily cause he was gonna get hit with a toolbox later on anyways. In the end, i want to be entertained, but I also want everyone to go home safe, including the wrestlers
@andregordon2599 I remember a match where Brock busted someone open the "old-fashioned way" and Vince was really mad that he got him busted open. Meanwhile, in any No DQ or TLC matches in Smackdown vs Raw games, I always wanted to bust my opponent open.
This is exactly how I feel as a worker. I think bleeding from a chair shot is completely unrealistic and dumb af, for example. If you get hit with a chair, you're not bleeding, you're getting walloped. I'd rather hard way with barbwire, thumbtacks, fingernail, something that adds more realism and grit. Bleeding is best used for the highest point or end of a feud.
Just wanted to say thank you stevie your a amazing host for a show and loving all the content and stories and hot takes the Bret vs Shawn whiteboard was spot on bro and I play as you from bwo all the time on fire pro wrestling world I been a fan since the contract stuff with raven in wcw

I personally don't like blading, would rather hard way using barbwire, or other methods to get color that are grittier and more realistic. What are your thoughts on that perspective? I've never felt comfortable hiding a blade in my wristbands or under tape, because the room for error *is* there. Both personally and if it were to fly out in ring or towards audience. Maybe I think too hard about it, but that's my prerogative.
I think blood can help. Hell like stone cold with Bret hart. That was a stellar use of it way back. But you use the right time not just everyday. Like abyss with thumb tacks.
A funny Sabu story. I was working an indy show one time. After the match, in the locker room, I told the guy that i just wrestled, 'sorry man, I tried to juice more but my blade bent." And out of nowhere, I heard someone laughing "that happens to me a lot.' I turned around at it was Sabu. He was working that night, but i knew wrestling politics stated that I could not talk to him b/c I was a nobody, but to hear him laugh and talked to me out of the blue was great.
Oh that's bullshit. I talked to everyone from WWE/TNA right from the get-go. Nobody cared. Everyone was cordial that came from there, etc. Politics can suck it. All you have to do is say hello. Haas, Rodney, Thunder Rosa (miss Mel), London, Hardy, Page, etc Some of the nicest people out there. When I started out, I was introduced to Funaki early on, super nice. Don't let those archaic rules get in the way of making yourself known or politely asking for a match review (perhaps after a couple encounters). I think blood is a useful storytelling tool for wrestling but it should be used sparingly. I know that Drew was apparently busted open hardway, but think about how much less impactful that cell match at Bad Blood would have been without the blood. And that blood was pretty much all that match needed. But at the same time, you have something like AEW where they bleed all the time so they have to resort to jabbing each other with hypodermic needles to make an impact. Blood can add a lot to a match as long as it's used sparingly.
I dont think its necessary, but in some situations it can be an enhancement. Punk and Drew was surprising, even tho Drews was hardway and definitely an accident, but it made HIAC feel like something special which it hasnt in many years.
Blood makes a difference when it’s used properly. If every wrestler on the card gets color it loses its importance/impact like every over used high spot.
blood makes a HUGE difference! it makes it real. if your in a real fight with someone chances are you are gonna bleed.
