Great advice! Be humble and be an apprentice. Show your excitement and interest through action! I’m a jazz musician and music teacher in Boston. I wish I had had that courage and gone after the very best in town. In someways I did but I hesitated. I trust my journey was just what I needed but I could’ve used this kind of advice

I’ve played tennis since I was 10 and now I’m thinking whether I should take a course to be a tennis coach or not. Because I don’t really like kids, but most instructors have to teach them. I’m not confident and I don’t know how to make it fun for them. I also get anxious easily. So I’m not sure what I should do now.

@SamChern - I would advise you, just like I was saying in the video above, to volunteer to work for a tennis coach... for a while. And see if you like it. To be honest, at the beginning of my coaching career, I also worked (briefly) at a country club with 'demanding' guests/students and... I hated it. I quit after one day! So don't give up on coaching only because you have a not-so-great experience in one place. Eventually, you will find a position somewhere you will enjoy. But do volunteer coaching first and try it out. Best of luck! :)

I'm 16 and have been coaching for about a month and i still don't feel comfortable

@CarPea be patient... teaching for 1 month is just the beginning of the road. They say it takes 10 years of constant training to become a master of what you do. Try to enjoy every teaching experience and learn as you go. You'll meet different people and each one is unique. Learning to adapt to each individual makes the job of a tennis coach exciting.

Hi Cosmin, is it absolutely necessary to have certifications to coach? I have a couple of people that would like me to coach them (obviously beginners), but feel a bit uneasy about not having the certificates. I think it's legal to coach without certifications where I live (not 100% sure). Because I'm not looking to do it full time, the courses to obtain a certificate is too much for me (money and time). I usually play with a former coach (who has certificates) and he said I am good enough to coach beginners. Do you think I should do this? Thanks

Hi Oliver, I can tell you this: before I became a certified coach, I taught a lot of kids who ended up loving and pursuing tennis competitively and some of them are now tennis coaches. After a couple of years, thinking that being certified would help me find a better job as a coach at a tennis club, I got one with a US organization. Did that help me? Only if I wanted to work at a club. Other than that... NO!
None of my students EVER have asked if I was certified or not.
If they connect with you, if you show passion, if you are on time, respect them, teach them the right tenins techniques, etc... it does not matter whether you are certified or not. All it matters is your PASSION for what you do. A certification does not make you a good tennis coach.

@@olivergreen1051 I must say this as well: one other reason I got certified was the insurance that came with the certification. That just in case one of my students would accidentally fall and get injured and wanted to sue, I was covered. That gave me peace of mind. Other than that... it is all you. :)

Hello. I'm from Russia. I've been playing tennis since I was six. Up to 16 years old professionally, now I have been training for 2 years. I planned to enter a Czech university to train as a coach. Due to the war, I will also go to study in Slovakia as a coach. But my dream since the sixth grade is to move to America. Do you think if I move to the states after studying, will I be able to get a job at the academy? Please tell me how hard it is to get a job at the academy and please tell us a little about the demand for this profession and payment. I'm sorry if you said something about this in the video, it's just that my English is not at an ideal level yet and I couldn't understand everything. Thanks for the reply.

And also please tell us about where and for how long you can get a patient and a tennis coach certificate
