I love the MF01 like the one in line 5. The rides are smooth and quiet. The deceleration and brakes are not abrupt. I can balance quite well without holding on for dear life like on the automated MP05s. I find it's face cute and insect like. I also adore its gangways, the look of the large, convex black outlined doors and that it's air-conditioned. Though, I like the engine sounds of the MP05 when it accelerates. Can't wait till the new lines are completed!
My absolute favorite trainset, too. The large windows, on sunny days, allow the rays of the sun to warm you while you watching the city moving. Silky smooth and quiet. Love it.
Many stations, particularly on Lines 1 and 13, have had platform edge screens and doors added, this was important for Line 1, as it is now fully automated, with no drivers. In London, however, only the below ground Jubilee Line extension stations opened in 1999, and the Elizabeth Line sub-surface platforms opened in 2022 have them; none have been "retro-fitted" to older platforms.
The trains are different mostly for these 3 reasons : - Some lines use rubber tyred trains (1,4,6,11,14) and the others don't - Some lines are automated (1 and 14 (4 will be soon as well)) and use driverless trains - For economic reasons, trains are usually ordered in rather small batch, to be dispatched on 1 or 2 lines, as renewing all the rolling stock at once would be way too costly. That's why some trains are very modern, as they've been renewed recently, while other have been waiting to be withdrawn and exchanged for years. --- Station names in Paris (and this apply in most cities worldwide) refers usually to the street or square they are serving, or a landmark close to it (Mainline railway station, museum, shopping mall...). You can find in the description all the station featured in the video.
For information : since that video was published, line 6 adopted the MP89 from line 4, while said line adopted MP05, the same trains as lines 1 and 14.
Hello, as i am claustrophobic i'd like to know if most lines are underground? if you can provide a percentage that would be very helpful so i know what to expect. :) thanks in advance!
- Line 6 is about 50% overground - Line 8 is overground in Créteil area - Line 2 is overground in the North of Paris Other than that is either fully underground or very small overground sections
Line 6 has a large portion overground, line 5, 2 and 8 have some overground sections and other lines are occasionally overground for short spurts. What I would recommend is to only use lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 7bis, 9 and 14 since their trains have massive windows nearly the full height of the train that makes the train feel spacious even In tunnels. The older trains on the other lines have much smaller windows that make them seem smaller.

I do live in the 19th district and as many of my neighbors I frequently use these "bis" lines as they serve quite populated areas located away from main lines' paths. Especially when you're living on the top of the Buttes Chaumont hill or on the Pyrénées / Gambetta plateau, they offer a pretty useful way to avoid having to climb to get back home. They are small feeding lines to the main ones and allow for the entirety of Paris to be served by metro lines while not having to walk more than 400 meters to find a station. Given their short lengths, it's rather normal that you've never taken them if you don't live in 19th or 20th districts or don't go there. Other lines being much longer, serving as backbones, there's a much higher probability for you to ride them even if you don't live or work on the path they serve. It's not because you've never used them that they are useless. They serve a real purpose and their users would really hate to see them gone !
