Absolutely phenomenal. As a spectacle the best fight of Eden thus far. The music is perfect. So glad Footsteps in the Snow wasn't forgotten, and the final phase was just... mwah. I've got shiva s going down my spine just thinking about it.

it's a huge shame that there's literally no way for the WoL to express *any* grief and/or aversion at talking about the topic at all, when Ysayle was a companion during the lowest-of-the-low period in their life and one of the first to die so we wouldn't.
I kinda expected at least a cursory "I really don't want to talk about it" when pressed about her/Shiva, but instead i weak-ass jokes about breaking the ice :/

Man, just listening to Soken across the game so far, he's only gotten better and better with time, and he was already really good at the start. These Eden raids are giving me so much excitement for what kind of use the melodies we've heard before are going to be done in whole new ways, but all the brand new ones are just as exciting. Ahhhh it's so great.

When the revelation hits you that you're not just fighting Shiva but due to Ryne, a manifestation of Hydaelyn too.
You could argue this is true for the original Shiva too. Ysayle was a Warrior of Light, after all. This is just dragging the light element to the extreme.
Ryne is the Oracle of Light, she has innate light aspected powers. Ysayle just had the Echo. Ryne-Shiva is a combination of your memories of Ysayle-Shiva + Ryne's powers run amok which manifest as Hydaelyn-lite.

@@WayToDawn72 I fought against Shiva at a convention before I arrived in heavensward. The cutscene and music stuck in my head for months after fighting her 14 times in a row. When I saw her die during the eorzean symphony concert I was totally shocked. Now that I have finished the full story Ysayle is still one of my favourite characters inside the game.
Perhaps I'm reading far too much into it, but the song's lyrics make me think it's from the perspective of the WoL/D who's having doubts and Hydaelyn. I'll break it down bit by bit, so this one's gonna be a bit of a read.
*Walk in the light, too weary to die.* What is something frequently said on the Source? Walk in the light of the Crystal, which is basically the Eorzean version of God bless you. Yet for all they've walked in the light, WoL/D is worn down by it all, quite honestly too exhausted to consider anything else anymore.
*Too lost to the ice for saving, my sins cling, haunting me.* Ice is the element closest to Light as we've learned, and Light is the element that very nearly killed WoL/D, perhaps they fear they'll never be completely free of it, much like how everything they've done and all the lives they couldn't save weigh heavy on their heart.
*Eyes wet with tears, Her song in my ears.* This one's pretty self explanatory, WoL/D grieving for all they've lost while Hydaelyn's 'hear, feel, think' echos on in their mind.
*Broken, faded; how long have I waited to open my eyes?* There's no beating around the bush here, as a Sundered Ancient, WoL/D is a broken and faded soul. Perhaps after the revelations in Rak'Tika and Amaurot, the WoL feels betrayed and lied to.
*Turn the light on, you're the one who should, you're the one who has to, you cannot wait to.* Here is where Hydaelyn comes in, reminding the WoL of their task 'to shine light on all creation'; first as a suggestion, then as a plea and lastly attempting to mindtrick WoL into doing so, taking away their ability to refuse.
*Return to Oblivion* WoL/D talking back to Hydaelyn, telling Her to go back to where she came from.
*I'm so lost, for you I'm giving up.* But ultimately, WoL/D is exhausted, they've no energy to fight Hydaelyn, so they quit.
*Falling too far for the fear to embrace me.* WoL/D at this point, has come so far and seen so much, that hardly anything fazes them anymore.
*A voice from the past, ringing on with no end.* As MSQ has revealed, Hydaelyn has been repeating her call to action since the Sundering, seemingly without stopping.
*But I'm a slave to this fight, am I doomed to repeat this, again and again and again and again?* Yet as resigned as WoL/D is, they're not looking forward to being Hydaelyn's favored piece for the rest of their lives, and thus asks if She's going to call them forever.
*Falling too fast, now it won't overtake me.* But they know they've beaten the Light before, and with their soul stronger for it, WoL/D knows that should the time come, they may stand a chance against the gods themselves.
*A voice from the past, echos on like a drum.* A voice from the past, echoing on. Who was it that asked us to do something for him with his *dying gasp* ? Hades.
*But there's no more goodbyes, and my heart is still aching. I'll open my eyes, one more time, one more time.* This bit clarifies my interpretation of the last line. Hades is (presumably) gone, but as Square seems intent on ensuring that his request won't go unheard, it's not that hard a stretch to believe that WoL/D is still mourning him, and so has resolved to learn more about who they were and what they meant to him.
*Reason resigned, dark season's design. Spring's promise of sun dishonored, with winter's weight down on us.* WoL/D's resignation regarding their role as Hydaelyn's champion rears its head once more as they reflect on the state the First was in before they arrived; poised to Rejoin with the Source with a sky blotted out in gold, without any way to tell the seasons' changes.
*Visions in white, all fury in flight. Clear as diamond, yet fragile as ice. My heart is racing.* Reflecting on Ysayle this time, the original person who summoned Shiva, perhaps WoL/D was looking forward to seeing her again, even if for a little while.
*Falling too fast, but the fall will not break me.* First unique lyric after a repeat of prior ones. WoL/D's resolve to see things through has returned after reflecting on the state the First was in and how things are now improving.
*But there's no more goodbyes, I am tired of weeping, I'll open my eyes one last time, one last time.* They're moving forward in their mourning of Hades, drying their tears and delving deeper into who they once more.

I think this is an excellent analysis, and there are a few things I'd like to add. Referencing Soken, and a comment that is above, the lyric, "I'm so lost, for you I'm giving up," is actually confirmed to be "the soul longs for oblivion, oblivion..." However, your interpretation of that particular lyric still rings true in its meaning, which is the exhausted nature of the WOL's soul after repeatedly dealing with seemingly unending conflict in different worlds, which they can not, in good will turn away from, except in death. Maybe the WOL morbidly hopes for the day they reach a foe too powerful to them, so that their tired soul may finally be put to rest without necessarily turning their back on the cause they have fought so long for.
Another thing I'd like to add on, regarding the "a voice from the past echos on like a drum," lyric. Although I do believe that the WOL in this lyric is considering the past of Hades, and what he and his people have gone through, which is especially important in the context of the nature of your analysis of this song, I personally have another interpretation to add onto this part. As well as Hades, I think that the WOL is considering the wishes and voices of other companions who have passed on, great and small, and carries said wishes with them today.
Disregarding a couple snarky responses that have recently been in some quests, in which the WOL asks for someone's name again, I believe the WOL has proven to have extremely good memory regarding people. The WOL has met so many people throughout their travels, but when they run into them later, for the most part, they seem to remember the circumstances surrounding their initial meeting. It would make sense if, with that impeccable memory, the WOL still remembers the rallies and wishes of those they have met in the past, and therefore still works to see those wishes to completion. The sheer weight of many people's hopes and dreams has weighed down on the WOL over time though, culminating in this song.

Honestly also can hear Ryne’s thoughts as well. She’s been reincarnated over and over again as Minfilia and while MSQ doesn’t delve too far into her psyche, I think a part of her still wants to live up to the expectation of the “oracle of light” (which might contribute to the dissonance that sounds almost like screaming at the end of “soul longs for oblivion”).

Rather than feeling like I was gonna cry my eyes out (cuz y'know, everything Shiva related) I was overcome with insane amounts of determination. I dont remember the last time I focused so hard on a fight. I wanted to do it as perfect as I could cuz god DAMN does this fight make you wanna.

in this fight i had been messing up my rotation a lot (i play black mage and new fights are rough) but when phase two started i started doing better and when enrage started i just sheer force of will flawlessed my rotation and wouldnt be surprised it i bursted up to 16+ishk

Yeah, its not really Caster Friendly. I had an easier time as my RDM. I would not recommend Black Mage in the new Eden Raids. You're better off going Aiming.

I would always say if there's alot of movement see the mechanics first. Because you then should apply your caster rotation once you know the timings. It took me awhile for E7 for which portal first. We had a tank friend who was color blind, the grayscale type. So the color coordination and portal colors was almost the same shade of grey. They didn't think about colorblindness for ps4 players.

The more I listen to this, the more it sounds like a warning from Ysayle and Minfilia about Hydaelyn's tempering.
I just read the lyrics and yeah, I agree. Those could easily apply to the WoL.
The more I think about it the more it makes sense. Hydaelyn's tempering is a quiet, insidious thing. It makes heroes out of nobodies, and those heroes routinely save the world. How could anyone say anything bad about Hydaelyn's Chosen? If someone did, the best they can hope for is be viewed as crazy. At worst they would be declared evil. Hydaelyn's made herself out to be the ultimate good, and only her Chosen could ever see the truth. But they are blinded and muted by their tempering. It would take extremely esoteric methods to subvert Hydaelyn's will and warn someone.
@@TonyRedgrave Actually, it's implied that your characters connection to Hydaelyn isn't even what made them special. Heavenswards quest is basically stating 'Nah fam.... You able to do all of this stuff, fighting and slaying gods and such because you are who you are. You're just THAT strong. The connection to Hydaelyn? That's just a bonus, and her trying to keep you under control.'

Ardbert's friends were all legendary in their own ways.
Arenvald's a primal slayer in his own right, and is extremely caring.
Krille and Mikoto are both very smart and constantly work for good causes.
Minfilia founded and led the Scions before she became the Word of the Mother and the Oracle of Light.
Ysayle was a hero to the heretics of Ishgard and desperately wanted to make a better world.
I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting. All these people are considered Hydaelyn's Chosen, and held in high regard by the people around them.
@@TonyRedgrave The WoL is LEAGUES above everyone else, and that's the point of it. It's not just the Echo that makes them special, but Determination, Will, Might and Tenacity. And I think that stems from the origin of who they were Before the sundering. Being the 14th seated council member of the Ascians who stood against the decision to even create Zodiarc, and who adventured about the world, making friends in the classic Final Fantasy adventure style of doing so, wanting to solve the problem some other way. The only failure they faced being when all of their own people did what they had, creating Zodiarc and Hydaelyn. And it would explain why your character is a 'Fractured soul' like everyone else, even though they're rejoined 8 times now, which would be 1 more time than anyone else in the Source... Because if Hydaelyn were to fracture the world and all souls within, and wanted a champion for her own cause to remain, wouldn't she warn or come up with some way for her champion to remain whole and unfractured, in case some ascians had somehow avoided it? (Like 3 of them had) Instead she has to settle with what's there. And the best of the best happened to be sundered like the rest of the world, but still stands FAR above everyone else.

Additionally, anyone from the Source would have been 7x stronger than anyone on the First, which we see proven wrong by all the times we get our ass beat by Ran'jit.
I still suspect that there's some huge piece of the puzzle that we are missing. From what we know the WoL wasn't involved in the summoning of either Hydaelyn or Zodiark, having instead decided to try something else. Elidibus sacrificed himself to be the Heart of Zodiark and Venat did the same for Hydaelyn.
So then why was Minfilia suited to be an avatar/herald for Hydaelyn? She goes and becomes the Oracle of Light on the First to stop the flood of light aether, which is something that Urianger had deduced she would be able to do all the way back in Heavensward (hence why he teamed up with Elidibus). I had thought that meant Minfilia was a reincarnation of Venat, except now I suspect that person we saw at the very end of 5.55 is actually Venat.
There are a lot of other similar questions, like what exactly is "Hydaelyn's Blessing" that we hear about? Midgardsormr was able to wipe it away from us, yet it didn't remove our Echo nor our immunity to being Tempered.
Why did Hydaelyn step in to stop the flood of light aether on the First? If my understanding is correct, had the flood covered the entire world then it would have been rendered useless to the Ascians for a rejoining, exactly like what had happened to the Thirteenth (which became the World of Darkness). That would have significantly slowed down the plans of the Ascians with resummoning Zodiark, giving Hydaelyn more time. The 8th Umbral Calamity only happened because the Ascians were able to take advantage of Minfilia stopping to flood to create the Black Rose gas and then time it with a new plan on the First.

@@YourFavoriteDakimakura Those songs are painfully overrated and don't even hold up to more modern standards of video game composition. Not even close.
One Winged Angel is this theme that conveys a sense of terror that you don't actually have a need to feel against Sephiroth because, at that point in the game, you're not only capable of kicking his ass to hell and back, but also hopeful and determined, and the theme conveys NONE of that, making it laughably unfitting for the battle it's in.
Dancing Mad suffers from a similar problem, but not to the same extent, thankfully, and the one thing it did right was that it was done in procedural suite form, which actually worked in the fight it was used in.
Neither of these songs are perfection itself. Why should Soken be held to an inferior standard? He has already exhibited skills and applications of musical theory that those songs failed to in his earliest work, and has only gotten better at that since. So no, "on his way" is painfully inaccurate. He's there, and has been for a while.

I really love all the visual aspects SE put into this fight. The biggest being that Ryne, an Oracle of Light, takes the form of Shiva, who was a woman who transformed into said primal. She also adopts moves from Tsukuyomi, who was a woman who transformed into said primal. Not to mention that Ryne throughout the fight is a girl who transformed into said Primal.

Jokes aside, eagle-eyed player should note that this incarnation of "Shiva" looks far closer to the ascian depictions of HYDAELYN rather than any form of Shiva. Curiously, that more Shiva-like form that pops out on occasion seems to take a few cues from Tsukuyomi as well, though that may be just me. Regardless, though, it's an interesting direction they took...
for the tsukuyomi form they probably just used that as a base since they tend to do that a lot since it saves time making models but yes i noticed that too.

@@josherosVT She has her own rig due to the 'Hydaelyn wings' and facial rig (not the same as Tsukuyomi). And if I were to guess from the way she transitions between dresses, all the bones for the other looks are there but the mesh is invisible.
But your statement is partly right, they dont create new rigs unless necessary but they often take a base one and add things.
So the Tsukuyomi sword slash she does here is deliberate and not just an asset flip.
I'm getting a lot more Shiva/Omega-F from the Shiva form than Tsukuyomi.

This OST is GODDAM TOUCHING. It's so awesome, so melodic. It kinda remembers me how much ANSWERS touched my ears when i was trying to overcome Bahamut back in ARR days! I don't play FFXIV pratically since the end of Heavensward, where i farmed Alexander Savage, but it's great to know that SQEX keep putting a lot of effort and soul in this FANTASTIC mmo. And now, is does have 20+ MILLION players, surpassing WoW in the past (i guess)

While it's true for the others fight, for this one specifically it is on Ryne. She fused with the element hopping to control it. WoL was not responsible this time around ;)
