A number of sopranos have recorded this aria but none have characterized it as beautifully as Scotto. She remains my favorite soprano in her choice of repertroire, be it the early florid roles and the later attempts at Verdi which overextended her resources--even so she brought so much to the party that one could overlook the frailties of the voice. Color, nuance and attention to text. She could never be accused of "phoning it in".
