  • In this episode we see a Ballast regulator and Tamper in action as they do a quick repair on a small section of track that has sunk due to pour drainage and pumping. See the video for all the details.

    Rockin & rollin @ 8 minutes as the train comes into view and over the crossing...nothing like zoom/telephoto shots or videos for showing off the warps in the track :-) Thanks for sharing Tony.

      Your welcome, I agree that track unevenness sure does get amplified by a long zoom. Thanks for watching

    4:50 - 5:02 the 'wedge' at the front is called the _plow._ during this pass, the plow is moving the stone into the center of the track.
    this will fill in the holes made by te tamper.

    Tamping a wet bed/crib is merely papering the cracks. That top fault will return quickly. Nice video, hello from Scotland

    I’ve always been fascinated by these MOW machines they always seemed so industrial yet intricate and complex

    It is surprising how quiet train is. I was walking my dog yesterday by the CN tracks and did not hear two Locos coming towards me. I was below the tracks and my dog was up on the tracks. i had to call her to get her out of the way.

    Awesome video, Brings back a lot of memories working around these machines throughout my 25 years with CP here in the states, I see they use concrete ties around the location you were at? We never used them on the CP around this area only a few steel ties which were garbage so the replaced them back to wood ties. Thanks for sharing this and have a great rest of your day.

    • @TonyVRailfanning
      @TonyVRailfanning  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, yes concrete is used about 50% of the time now up here. I does amaze me though I know of an area east of here that still has wood ties that date back to 1972 and are still in ok shape. These ties were put down about 15 years ago and seem to be holding up well. Enjoy your weekend as well

      @@TonyVRailfanning Your very welcome and wow they lasted amazingly well especially in the more harsher climate. Sounds like a lot more concrete than we have down here on the Canadian Railroads and thanks much also.

    Not the most effective tamping I’ve ever seen. You can tell by the colour of the rails, sleepers and ballast just off the crossing that there is a big mud spot under the track which will come back and bite them in the bum. First rule of good track is getting rid of your water. In Auckland, New Zealand, KiwiRail has many mud spots in the suburban area. They don’t get rid of them properly, as in fix the underlying drainage problem, and the mud spots keep coming back. Some have been “repaired” three or four times.
    However, great video. Track machines are fascinating to watch.

      Yes, this was a quick and dirty job. They had a lot of traffic backed up because of the delays that they caused just doing this line is busy roughly 50 trains a day so they were going to come back and do a better job later.

    • @bigkiwimike
      @bigkiwimike 9 місяців тому +1

      @@TonyVRailfanning Thanks for that. It is always a delicate balance between keeping the trains running and carrying out repairs. It certainly is a busy piece of line. Cheers.
