On current form by Disney, Shardlake will be a woman, Barak will be Black, etc. They have betrayed so many established stories and I am not sure they have the people to make this now.

The BBC production of ‘Wolf Hall’ did,for sure, evoke the Tudor period. I am of the opinion that the BBC and the production crew of ‘Wolf Hall’ are the only people who could do justice to Sansom’s brilliant series of the Tudor period and the character , Shardlake. Just be thankful it is not Netflix or UTube doing this work….historical fact would go straight out of the window. Either one of those companies would definitely choose totally wrong characters and get the history totally wrong - as happened in’Vikings’ with “Shield Maidens” (ridiculous) and very insulting, incorrect facts concerning major historical figures. No more needs to be said. Disney will not do a good job. It will, however, be in ‘New Speak’ and be politically correct (in today’s need for silliness and total ignorance to historical a fact).

R.I.P CJ Sansom. You brought Tudor England to life.

Read the books several times and I hope that the adaptation does justice to them

The guy the got playing A hard lake isn't how I pictured him while reading the books but that's okay because I was picturing something close to Richard III. I like the look of this series. I am surprised that Disney chose to do it since there is subject matter in the book that isn't generally for the family-friendly viewers. Nevertheless I am excited about this series. Read three of the books. Great mystery series.

Oh god... It's on Disney+ now. Tried the first half hour then switched it off, I cannot continue. They've murdered this book and history already.
Diverse casting in 16th century England, where the most diversity you'd have seen is maybe Scots or Welsh. The only character in the novel who didn't fit the normal demographic would have been Brother Guy, the Moorish apothecary... Only one reason to deviate from reality, and it's DEI...
Shardlake's character has gone from a thoughtful, quiet man to a snarky man of frustration. Cromwell has become far too "pally". Barak isn't even meant to be there yet and has found the Tudor Brylcreem. And Joan the housekeeper has gone from a middle aged housekeeper of modesty to a young acid tongued thing. As for Norfolk, one of the most powerful and capable schemers and lords of the realm at the time, they have treated him like a heavy handed buffoon.
The whole feel of it is wrong, too - Samsum's novel very much feels in the form of Umberto Eco's Name of the Rose, but they have turned it into a flashy drama, it's not supposed to be The Tudors.
I'll stick to reruns of Cadfael, and unabridged audiobooks instead.

The ‘Star Original’ under the Disney Umbrella series of Shardlake is fantastic. I hope they make all the books into tv series. It’s a superb production.

Mark Rilance in Wolf Hall is how i always imagined Matthew Shardlake to look like, apart from the lack of a hump on his back its how CJ described Shardlake to the reader. i'm looking forward to this show, i love the Shardlake novels

I would like to know what happened to the Ratcliff: Shardlake #8 book. It was posted on goodreads, now it is gone. It was on Amazon Canada now it is gone. Online there are hints of it but you can not find any information on it. As of Disney.. if it is coming from them it will be messed up and woke. 🤦 I do not support Disney for years now. So not an option. As of the actors, there are some high profile actors in it. But the guy playing Shardlake is so not the right one for the role. He already sucks in the trailer

A wonderfully presented taster of what's to come from Disney Charlotte, thank you. Let's hope that they don't make it ridiculously woke! If they start re-imagining known historical figures, I'm out. On accents, do you regard any accent south of the Humber as "posh"? Thomas Cromwell himself was the son a Putney (saarff London) cloth merchant - certainly no aristocrat 🤣. Standard English isn't "posh" either.

I agree about the covers lol. You just know they will change the covers! And have a non removable sticker. Two of my pet peeves! 😊

I envisioned Matthew as being much thinner; more frail. And where is the prominent hunchback and bad posture that defines his character? Not sure I like the casting choice. Sean Bean as Cromwell? I don't think so. Peter Firth should have been cast as Cromwell; he looks like Cromwell. I'm already having doubts about this series. Next, they'll have Rowen Atkinson playing Henry (actually, that my work.Lol). And if they don't cast Charles Dance as Sir Richard Rich, then I give up. This is what you get with Disney. They're gonna blow it.

I understand another novel is due this year called Ratcliffe. I would have liked to see Warwick Davies playing Shardlake. Looking forward to this series and will have to subscribe to Disney just for this! Disney have massive resources so hopefully they’ll get all the best people to make it look authentic. Thanks for your thoughts Charlotte. I really enjoyed it. 😁

Ah that’s a shame! There are quite a few rumours going around about him - especially as his books are growing in popularity. I’d love to have another book though - just one more 😁 thanks so much for watching I’m glad you enjoyed the video

@@CharlotteFurnessWriter Certainly share your reservations about the prospect of Disney doing the adaption. One quick note about your comments about Sean Bean as Cromwell. Cromwell shouldn’t have an upperclass accent, he was from Putney, then a lower class area of London. The fact that he was “low born” and had no aristocratic blood etc was both a reason that he was so despised by the members of Henry’s court who resented his rise, and a large part of the reason that Henry promoted him (he had nothing, inheritance-wise, except what the King gave him, so he did for the King whatever Henry needed to be done). He was brilliant, cunning, ruthless, spoke several languages, had been a mercenary in France, had lived in Italy, etc, but he was by no means well born and most certainly would not have had an upperclass accent. He seems to have revelled in the fact that his humble beginnings so upset the nobility. So I think I would be less upset if Cromwell ended up with a Yorkshire accent than if they tried to make him “posh”. Great video and thanks for the info.

I hope the fifth book will be translated in Dutch and the sixth 😅
Maybe through the renewed intrest Disney is brining. But I don’t think it will be a good adaptation.

I wiil forever be grateful to my dad for introducing me to the books, absolutely love them! I'm also a bit sceptical of Disney+, I started reading the books when I was 16 and the darker themes really made the books stand out and reminded me just how real the Tudor times were. So I really hope they stick with it! 🤍

I’m trying to be cautiously optimistic but you know as SOON as we have a trailer I’ll be all over it 😂
