it's 9 years already yet the laptops still works great. it's built like a tank. easy to upgrade. very useful dedicated mute offline button, very user friendly. best investment I've ever done. great job HP.
4 months ago I dropped it on the floor by mistake, I thought its time has come to say farewell to me. I rushed into my room and plugged it in and surprisingly it worked as nothing happened, also I checked every single component if it was damaged, but everything was normal. That's why I liked the term "built like a tank" which is accurate 😅
From experience I can tell you that the MacBook Pro stands up to abuse extremely well. I had a 10ft piece of plaster coving fall from the ceiling and land straight on the top of my MacBook Pro. It bounced off the display of the MacBook and hit me straight on the head, leaving me with with a massive lump on my head but not a scratch to the MacBook. There was a huge mark on it but after wiping it with a damp cloth it was completely gone. Also, magnesium is softer and more flexible than aluminum.
As far as I know Intel made Thunderbolt in collaboration with Apple, so naturally the Apple devices got to use it first as they shared development of the technology. I think when people say these machines are MacBook Pro rip-offs they don't mean in terms of hardware but in terms of design. If you look at this machine and a MacBook Pro side-by-side they look almost exactly the same.
just bought one, for only 150$ in a mint condition with the new battery, pretty good mobile laptop, running 16GB ram just fine, windows 10 pro and 250GB mSATA ssd + 1TB HDD flawlessly..
GPU isn't only for gaming. Apple actually used to use Quadro and Fire type of GPU's in the past in their systems. They were meant for editing purposes. Since there nowadays is an overlap between the two (professional cards and gaming cards) they went for the more casual and cheaper solution.
The soundcard itself is fine. The fact that it's in a laptop and isn't shielded from interference from the other components is where it and every other laptop soundcard fall short. The fact that it's running through OS X is a huge advantage though. For example, when using MIDI controllers the latency is almost non-existent. In Windows it's almost impossible to achieve the same quality without paying out for an expensive external card. It's much better than fiddling around with ASIO4ALL drivers.
I love how Slick was shacking the camera to say 'No, apple did not start the trend of making batteries swappable'. We need Slicks input on all matters.
that was the plastic bezel around it. you can here a similar sound a few seconds later when he is applying pressure near the center of the bezel on top
Why can't I discuss it? "Overpriced" is completely subjective. You may think that, and I do too about some of their products (mainly their desktop PCs.) I don't think that about their laptops though. And their accessories aren't that expensive. You can easily get third party accessories for cheap as their laptops are the most popular in their class. There's more to a computer than its processor by the way. I don't understand why people are so hung up on hardware specs anyway.
They're easy to open up. The MacBook Pro is geared towards being a portable, wireless machine, but you can buy a cheap Ethernet port accessory if you actually need one. The I/O is no worse than anything else on the market. And it's certainly nothing like a tablet. No touch screen for a start. The swappable battery is something that may put some people off. Not making the battery immediately swappable meant they could fit a bigger battery in though, so it's an advantage to the average user.
FYI: when you double tap the top left corner of the touchpad, it will turn on/off, as with all modern EliteBooks. Too bad it's just a 1366X768 display though, would have liked to see at least 1600X900, like on my 8560w
The MacBook Pro is pretty powerful. Mine runs Skyrim and Battlefield 3 on high settings without issue. I've maxed out Crysis 2 as well. They're certainly not only good for posting on Instagram.
thats actually a pretty badass notebook, and it doesnt look that much like a macbook imo other than the silver/black color scheme. It looks much more business like and sophisticated. Im thinking of getting a laptop soon and its between this and a lenovo probably, the only two companies that still make rugged professional looking laptops
Cisco is a fortune 500 company. They don't care about being famous, they are a networking company. They have a business to run and they saw value in apple for their company and employees. Also I don't need to link anywhere, I say that through my own experience. I've had PCs for over 15 years and recently got some macs. Bootcamp runs better than any windows installed PC as it does not come with bloatware. Bloatware by the way is paid my symantec, mcafee, etc to the manufacturers of your pcs.
Check out some of the side by side tests. A drop that completely shatters the Galaxy S3 and leaves it damaged beyond repair and in dozens of pieces on the floor only causes a cosmetic scratch on the side of the iPhone 5. I don't know about the iPhone 4, but the iPhone 5 is far better quality than anything Samsung are offering.
The term ultra book was given by intel but "ultra books" have been around for a long time. Sony has produced some of the first thin and light notebooks along with Apple and their Macbook Air.
I don't think he's referring to that specifically. I first saw this video while using a MacBook Pro and the shape of the keys, the shape and indentation of the area around the keyboard, the colour, and font used all look exactly the same. I thought it was a comparison between some HP laptop and the MacBook Pro or something, as this laptop looks so much like it.
Actually the first company to ever invent the ever so popular smartphone was IBM in 1992 with the Simon Personal Communicator. Also the first smartphone to have GPS, music player, and web browsing was the Nokia N95 which was released in March of 2007. Also without Samsung your precious little iPhone wouldn't even be made. look up the parts in the iPhone and most of them are made by Samsung like the A6 Processor and the memory that is on the phone also the Retina is a Samsung made product aswell.
Pretty sure it was Sony who made the first, as Samsung used the example in the $1billion court case is in the US. Samsung said Apple copied the general iphone design from Sony, right?
I have HP Elitebook 8440p for $111.99 plus $1.99 shipping. And it is great, except that I had bad battery, which I am fine with it until I can get a new battery.
I dont take sides; I dont work with PC/Apple, so I dont see what's the reason to hate a company just for their products. It's my money. I still prefer picking laptops in a variety: different colors, design, etc. First samsung now HP, my opinion. u have yours
finger print scanners aren't new, my laptop has one and i only spent £490 on it. I can use it to unlock my laptop and launch websites (I can customize it to choose what websites that open and what fingers I need to use to do it).
You need to touch three times on the upper left corner to deactivate/activate the mousepad: D Just like my hp, also with backlit keyboard :D LOVE HP!!!
1680x1050. No idea of the framerate, but I'd estimate around 45fps average. The games all run perfectly smoothly at least, with no noticeable framerate drops.
Oh i remember who invented what. The first Smartphone was the Ericsson R380 Smartphone, Pinch to zoom was invented by Diamond Touch and a combo of Mp3 web browser and gps was also in the nokia 65n. So when you get your memory back, please com back.
if you look at palm OS and IOS alot of the icons are actually from palm OS or a early Windows phone OS apple literally took it and made it a little nicer
Well I didn't buy mine as a gaming laptop, and it's not meant to be one. But it's certainly a very capable gaming machine. There are other laptops out there that are far better suited to just gaming, but they fall short in other areas. The MacBook Pro is just a really good all-rounder.
Most of Apple's components are Samsung's. The display you talk about is Samsung technology. Samsung makes the display along with the processor, memory.
They have improved massively in the last 4 years or so. 10 years ago it was true that they used vastly overpriced and outdated hardware, but that's not true now. You may not need to upgrade the MacBook as it's already more powerful than this machine. And it's not really fair to say that Apple use outdated hardware when you're looking at a machine with a VGA port and a pointing stick in the middle of the keyboard. The MacBook Pro has more accessories than just about any other laptop on the market
yea, 8000kn for a laptop with 4 gb of ram, a good gpu and an amd processor 8800kn in the pc i wanna build is 8 gb of ram, i5 3470, 1 tb hdd, great case from zalman, asrock mbo, and a zotac gtx 660 ti :) 10 000kn is about 1700 $
For certain tasks Windows "sucks balls" too. Sure you can get the same processor, GPU, HDD, and RAM for less, but there's more to a computer than that. Even the machines that are just as powerful as the MacBook Pro cost almost as much. They're really not as overpriced as people seem to think. If you really can find a laptop that's just as powerful as the MacBook Pro but costs even 50% of the price, post a link here. I'll be impressed if you can.
Wait, wait, wait. I wasn't yelling that they suck, ok? And especially I wasn't complaining about Air. I do understand that for it's portability Air is really great device with a high performance and I do understand why people buying Macbooks, they just want a device that will perform well and steady. But still, it's ratio for hardware and price is not good at all.
To the whole 'Ultrabooks are Macbook rip-offs!' argument: INTEL was the company that came up with the idea of ultrabook, (if you look up specs for them, you'll find the guidelines that Intel made). Intel CPUs are used in both Macintosh and Windows based computer systems. Intel was also the company who created the thunderbolt port, they just decided to debut it on Macbooks. So no, there are no rip offs, there's only Intel trying to stir up a shit storm...of you idiots arguing.
I do it all the time... especially on long flights where i don't have good access to a plug. Plus it would be a huge shame if a nice piece of hardware was brought down because of something as simple as a battery Huge selling point in my opinion!
I know you can dual boot on a standard pc. I do it. why I said this is because he said you can't install windows 7 and 8 on the ultrabook, I have windows 7, 8, and ubuntu 12.10 on my desktop, and windows 7 and ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop.
I can't say a bad thing about my Macbook Air, it performs really well, far better than my PC even so please, stop yelling everywhere that Apple products suck. Sure, maybe it's not the cheapest piece of equipment on Earth but it looks decent, performs well and to be honest - people who buy that kind of hardware could not care less about what's inside, they know it will perform well.
Because that's what people want. Not because companies can't come up with unique designs. If anything blame it on the users and the marketing departments.
Because there is so much metal wastage from carving it out of a solid piece of aluminium, compared with using multiple thinner pieces and screwing them together.
I h8 apple dude but even though their hardware is overpriced, its very nicely build and it actually runs smooth. My flat mate has 1 its pretty impressive, we are running windows 7 on it and its been as stable as most pcs are, cannot say it outperforms my pcs but its a nice portable device to have
had 3 HP machines, all they sucked balls, they got so hot and get damaged, then i got an acer, which was great! 2 years with it, was so nice, now i got macbook pro, so coool, idk if hp is a lil better now than before! still nice unbox!
I remember supporting these for years back at my old job. I actually have a 9480M I keep around as an expendable little laptop for experiments.
it's 9 years already yet the laptops still works great. it's built like a tank. easy to upgrade. very useful dedicated mute offline button, very user friendly. best investment I've ever done. great job HP.
Linus's first video in this channel interesting also that intro
Yeah that intro sure was unique
2:24 anyone else noticed Slick shaking the camera sying "no"
only useless people like you can notice such shits ! :p
Yes haha
Man, I'm amazed on how far linus has come after all these years!
"Try to remember who was the first company to invent a smartphone"
That'll be IBM.
I really like how slick is in your videos now. He could be another NCIX personality!
About the battery lock.. Red mean the battery is unlock Linus!
This video is 11 years old.Damn.
cant believe linus unboxed my spare laptop.
As far as I know Intel made Thunderbolt in collaboration with Apple, so naturally the Apple devices got to use it first as they shared development of the technology. I think when people say these machines are MacBook Pro rip-offs they don't mean in terms of hardware but in terms of design. 5 years man, HP got some good specs and prices!
just bought one, for only 150$ in a mint condition with the new battery, pretty good mobile laptop, running 16GB ram just fine, windows 10 pro and 250GB mSATA ssd + 1TB HDD flawlessly..
Adi Abri Ganjar Utama where did you buy?
Linus, I hope you see this and go look back at the very first NCIX show you did in '07, the difference is hilarious (in a good way!)
found a used one with an ssd and 16 gb of ram for only 235$! nice.
Link?
Did you buy it?worth it? Thanks
how is the battery
Got a refurb on ebay with ssd and 16gb ram as well as i5 for $182.99

I love that background more than the green

2:21 hahahah xD Slick is like "No, no, no" with the camera :p
This looks SOOOOO much nicer then the lenovo think pads.Nice job HP!!!
i love how slick shakes the camera when linus starts complimenting apple

I love how nobody comments about slick being clearly on camera at 0:38
thx
welcome haha 😊
Slick is alive!!

watching it on the saME LAPTOP
I love the NO by slick with the camera to apple being great!!!!!!!!

Well, yes, my mistake. The Retina one comes with dedicated GPU. But even for 1.5k there should be a great dedicated GPU, honestly.

Wow now I finally know how Slick looks like
Yeah Palm OS was the first to really do any of this stuff, even the screens supported multitouch, its just there was no drivers written for it
gorgeous laptop. Kinda looks like mbp but in positive way
Actually the first company to ever invent the ever so popular smartphone was IBM in 1992 with the Simon Personal Communicator. my track pad on my VAIO is pretty heavily worn pretty heavily so that chemically etched glass would be pretty nice...
Pretty sure it was Sony who made the first, as Samsung used the example in the $1billion court case is in the US. Samsung said Apple copied the general iphone design from Sony, right?
You can on a standard PC by disabling an option in the bios I think, but maybe certain BIOSes have this feature disabled
I have HP Elitebook 8440p for $111.99 plus $1.99 shipping. And it is great, except that I had bad battery, which I am fine with it until I can get a new battery.
yaa the used ones are nice..
see here - watch?v=JFe3ub8K8ME
Random Reviews and Unboxings Although it is refurbished. And it does runs nicely.
red means it's unlocked
you are suppose to slide the battery lock thing so it's not red
Linus that is not a dock it is a connector for a battery slice.
It is still in our market today...Many people still use it...hehhee,,...2021
I dont take sides; I dont work with PC/Apple, so I dont see what's the reason to hate a company just for their products. It's my money.
I still prefer picking laptops in a variety: different colors, design, etc. First samsung now HP, my opinion. u have yours
8 is better than 7 in every way imaginable.
finger print scanners aren't new, my laptop has one and i only spent £490 on it. I can use it to unlock my laptop and launch websites (I can customize it to choose what websites that open and what fingers I need to use to do it).

1680x1050. No idea of the framerate, but I'd estimate around 45fps average. The games all run perfectly smoothly at least, with no noticeable framerate drops.
I loved when Linus said "Apple is cool" and Slick shaked camera to say "no"
8:25 My heart flew, I pay my respects to this laptop for that...
you got it buddy
Oh i remember who invented what.

Yeah, it looks exactly like the iPhone 4. I couldn't even tell them apart when he did the side comparison.
i only meant the design. it was not about specs...
Well I didn't buy mine as a gaming laptop, and it's not meant to be one. But it's certainly a very capable gaming machine. There are other laptops out there that are far better suited to just gaming, but they fall short in other areas. The MacBook Pro is just a really good all-rounder.
no it´s not like a macbook air - because there are no dongles required ;) and it´s working. so much win in this book.
The head shake of disapproval at 2:23
i still have mine ..the laptop works fine ..and mind you am a tech guy.
Hey Njoro, huwa ina-overheat?
Exactly! Someone who actually knows that hardware wise, there's really no difference.
Didn't the industry agree to phase out VGA? Computers and projectors with VGA ports in 2012 is the reason why we still have them...
i think he meant the appearance which i think we can all agree with
Most of Apple's components are Samsung's. The display you talk about is Samsung technology. Samsung makes the display along with the processor, memory.

HP EliteBook: The only HP product with good build quality.
I've used HP EliteBook mobile workstations for years, you cannot find a better notebook for business.
yea, 8000kn for a laptop with 4 gb of ram, a good gpu and an amd processor

HP business laptops have pretty good construction.
Depends what you want to do with it.
you gotta love slick

Looks a lot like a macbook.
And btw, I think that's a LOT of flex to the screen! Looks like it is made out of soft plastic.
Hey friend nice video. Is this the the closest thing to a mac air without breaking the bank.

Linus: Apple is awesome...
(Slick shakes the camera)
LOL
"... started by one and only Apple computers, because they are awesome " and slick shakes the camera :D
Man...I WANT THAT!
I know you can dual boot on a standard pc. I do it. why I said this is because he said you can't install windows 7 and 8 on the ultrabook, I have windows 7, 8, and ubuntu 12.10 on my desktop, and windows 7 and ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop.

MacBook Pro's are brilliant computers. I have no idea why people would say they're anything less.
Very sexy laptop. I'm still not willing to buy an HP laptop after the nightmares of unreliability and trying to get them fixed while under warranty.
I've got a question for you... how do you get involved in the HP demo program?
