9:45 FFXII soundtrack from Hitoshi Sakimoto is so underrated in the FF Fandom. Rabanastre City, Paramina Rift, Dalmasca Estersand, and Eruyth Village songs are so beautiful. 😁
Noted
Totally agree! His music is so underrated
I’ve been a fan of FF since the beginning. I never understood why the music from XII didn’t get more love. Beautiful stuff.
12 is by a different composer, but the uematsu’s prelude does make its way into everything.
Including the florence and machine cover for 15’s main theme - stand by me
Wow that’s hilarious- the chords are almost the same as Prelude. Just Prelude repeats I vi I vi and Stand by me only does it once. Is that really the main theme for FF XV? How interesting.
I’m so glad your stepping out from Zelda. There is so much out there worth covering!
FF8's "The Oath" is another great piece that's unfairly overshadowed by To Zanarkand, but probably fits the kinds of pieces you want to look at on this channel
Just listened to it, loved the little Dorian lick to end the piece. Lots of bVI chords too. Thanks!
Thanks for bringing in this huge body of really great music. You could probably do a whole video or series on Nobuo Uematsu or the development of themes that started as simple 8 bit tunes up to fully orchestrated pieces. Also, Yoko Shimamura’s music would be great to analyze. She only wrote for FFIV I think, but has done tons of work for Kingdom Hearts and Mario’s and Luigi RPG titles. Comparing her “Dearly Beloved” with FF’s “ Prelude” might be fun too! Keep up the good work! I love seeing your channel blossom!
That’s so cool, I have never even heard the name before (Nobuo Uematsu). I’ll have to learn more! I’ll definitely do Kingdom Hearts at some point.
It's really sad how not many people watched this video just because the channel is mostly about zelda. Great Video 👍
Hahaha I thought this one turned out pretty cool! I’ll keep trying periodically to branch out, but gotta admit I do love Zelda a little bit more. It’d just be nice to do some movies and other games from time to time.
man i love this, huge FF fan and have been looking for more of this theory-oriented breakdown
This video was so much fun! Bad news is ZMT is gonna be pretty much only Zelda from now on. Good news is I’d love to have a second channel at some point for everything else. Thanks for watching! I wish this video had gotten more views. FF music is awesome.
Interesting you chose “ballet” for to zanarkand. Ten has a strong metal background in a lot of places and the black mages arrangement is this really fast power ballad.
dance is actually one of the first things I think of with To Zanarkand, especially the Movement in Green version (as both a musician and dance enthusiast, it works so well!)
Interesting, I didn’t know any of this.
Blew my mind with the Hallelujah right off the bat 😂
I was so surprised by that lol
you should do "Skycity of Bhujerba" and "Fisherman Horizon"
Listened to the Skycity theme just now- beautiful! Major seven chords, lots of 36251s, mode mixture, very cool! Wait at 1:04 that's a quote from a classical piano piece... La Fille Aux Cheveaux De Lin by Claude Debussy. The FF one is a half step lower but identical notes like 13-14 in a row! Wow. That's so cool. Go listen to it! Hope I made your day 😁 thanks for watching my channel.

its Inigo from tennis
It's Jason from tennis
😊
YOOO!!! What’s up guys! Thanks for checking out the videos! See you in practice 🤣
And Inigo you got a bunch of likes, I wonder if it’s other people from tennis or just other viewers that like the “realness” 🤣 Yeah I teach tennis anyone else reading this.
Would be so down to watch video game music history
Would love to see more FF music analysis, mainly from 13, 14, and 15. I wasn't expecting the comparisons between FF and Zelda, but its really great to hear the similarities. Also, a lot of the music (mainly the themes) have the prelude included one way or another.
Especially if it's done by Uematstu or Soken. They always include the prelude in some form in their FF music
@@christonadams9046 I agree. I really enjoy their themes. Hamauzu is my favorite FF composer, even tho he's not the "traditional" type for FF music. But he does bring out the ambient and atmospheric tones in the latter games.
Would absolutly love to see you react to some more FF music and break them down, one of my favorite game franchises ever next to Zelda! mainly in part to how much of an emotional roller coaster their music and stories are. I'm definitely giving a sub of course, great Video and keep it up!
This is also a great time to listen to FF music since FF16 is coming out next month and one of my favorite composers, Masayoshi Soken is doing the music for that game. Soken has previously worked on music from FF14 which is my favorite FF game in music and story, I hope you'll find the time to react to more, especially from Masayoshi Soken and even the one and only Nobuo Uematsu!
Can you please do me a huge favor and let me know when there’s a lot of hype around a trailer or theme from FF XVI? I don’t keep up with it but I’d love to listen to some recent music. Let me know! Like comment in whatever video I just did and be like, Yo KEV, it’s here. (Like 1-2 weeks before the game)

I wish he’d listened to Zanarchand on original piano, not orchestral
Dang I don’t think I’ve even heard it. Probably beautiful, I love piano music.
@@ZeldaMusicTheoryit's what you hear in game.
0:40 yo this is the End of Time in Chrono Trigger
Hitoshi Sakamoto has to be one of the most underrated
Next can you do a breakdown the Persona series' music? Its often praised as the best aspect of the games
I’ve heard that recommended a few times now, I’ve have to check it out.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory haha yeah that was me, you asked me to send you some links but I didn't know if you meant in that comment thread or what
Not just you- I keep a list of all recommendations and it has like 5 votes. Never even heard of it. The top recommendations are like 11 votes so 5 is pretty high. Most only have 1or 2.
hey
Great analysis, as always Kevin. I'm not a Final Fantasy fan but I love the FF prelude theme. I actually did a piano cover of it some time ago: ua-cam.com/video/53gQDP9AGRI/v-deo.html
In terms of music not from Zelda I want to request, I'd love to see you analyze some Dragon Quest music. Melody of Love from Dragon Quest 5 has some nice modulating harmony you'd probably love
Hahaha I watched it and was like WHOA! His piano is backwards! He must be left handed like guitarists 🤣 That’s funny. Nice! And how cool, one of the first themes in Dragon Quest is from the “original” Dragon Warrior, which has some really significant video game music significance as the first game to utilize music for each “area.” The courtyard, the overworld, a battle, etc. Yeah, it was first. My Music History 3 Prof in college wrote papers on earl video game music and I used to wear video game shirts to class and he would always comment. And he told me about that game’s significance.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory that's cool actually. And yeah, Koichi Sugiyama (the series' composer) is often credited as one of the grandfathers of video game music because of how influential his music for Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior) was for the industry. It's really cool
Fact is, FF series with better music than all nintendo era.
