Michael Austin "Mic" Murphy (born January 9, 1958) is an American musician, lead singer of the successful 1980s synth R&B duo The System. He is well known for singing the group's biggest hit, "Don't Disturb This Groove," a 1987 US #4 Pop and #1 R&B hit. After The System went on hiatus at the end of the 1980s, Murphy briefly pursued a solo career. In 1991, he released his debut solo album, Touch, which featured a minor R&B hit, "Fit to Be Tied." He was a featured vocalist on Home & Garden's 2007 album Domesticated, which was released on Om Records and produced by Tim K and Timothy Shumaker.

I love me some Mic Murphy, and The System! The duo is one of my favorite groups. So very, very talented. God bless the System!🙏💜

He’s the best.
The System is one of my top tier fav groups 🙌🏾🤌🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!!! Love them!!! His voice was just sooo unique, smooth, perfection & creative! Watch his live performances & he sounds EXACTLY like the album!!!
Good one! The System was such a huge musical influence on me growing up. The Murphy and Frank duo was gold, literally. Got to see The System live on stage in the late 80s. Wow, what a groundbreaking duo. Finally got to hang out with Frank in the studio around 99, just before he got back together with Murphy. What a great guy.
The System. So underrated.
A very innovative era of music! 😁
Love my brother Mike Murphy we go back a long way 💪 💯 New York times. Rick Brennan from CHANGE N Philly love always peace ✌️ 😊 333.Rick
I always wondered what had happened to The System? Don't Disturb This Groove! Was my Favorite Song back in High School that song takes me back to so many happy memories! Thank You!❤️
Thanks for listening
This a awesome production and the subject is just timeless. This group was epic
Crazy how underrated he is. Smh 💯
Thank you for this spotlight. Deserved. I love his voice
I first heard about Mic and David when Thundercat was listing his favorite basslines and mentioned You’re In My System. Been hooked on them since then!
The combination of Mic’s soaring, pinpoint vocals and David’s ingenious keyboard work were so complementary to each other’s unique talents.
Personal favorite track from them is, “It Takes 2”. The harmonies, colorful array of synths used, and Mic’s passionate vocals that feels like he’s channeling Prince all make it legendary ❤
They are a dynamic duo.
Just had the pleasure of seeing them live in Westbury Nov. 24. They didn't skip a beat!! They turned it out!!! They look great and sound fantastic!!
Ok. I am going to be searching for an opportunity to catch these guys live

What is that track in the open? Very Nice! Mic Murphy is a KING of Voice Song and Music!
That was a stock synth track I pulled from... somewhere! When I make these videos, it's kind of chaotic, so I don't keep track of my assets. Thanks for enjoying the vid!
David was using the Oberheim system get it system 😁👊🏽
❤
Thank you so much for this awesome retrospective.
I've been trying to find a Greatest Hits compilation...is one available?
I had hoped for longevity from this talented duo but, as is common among performers who break through, a hiatus and solo endeavors take their toll.
Hoping to hear more from and about this talented musical duo.
I didn't find a greatest hits album in my research. Just his albums with David Frank as The System, and his solo efforts. You should follow his social media to keep abreast of his goings on. He's really active on there. Thanks for watching.
Is it….you??? Finally ❤❤❤❤❤❤
It’s pronounced em-tu-may. 😂
Noted.
The System was so Awesome! Question: Why does Thelma Houston's "You Used To Hold Me" sound so much like "You Are In My System"?? 😦 🎶 😦🎵
Good question! I did a little quick, dirty research on this and I found out the following. "You Used To Hold Me" was produced two years after "You Are In My System" (Side-note: I just realized that they both start with "You" and are five-word titles...) by the duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Louis.
That song was popular in the clubs, and like anything popular, it is either cloned to death (the 1983 cover by the English rock singer Robert Palmer is an example) or used as inspiration for similarly sounding songs. I presume the latter is the case.
pքɾօʍօʂʍ 🙃
You're focusing WAY too much On Murphy...and WAY too little on (Dave) Frank. You can do better than that.
I'm white so I give myself permission to say this for the white delegation = But the name of this UA-cam channel says it all. That said, David is a great guy. But this is a channels for the black brothers. Not the vanilla brothers, albeit David be great. A fantastic keyboard player.
