Thanks for asking. Each car model has a different filter. And the purpose of the filter is to prevent dust and pollen from entering the vehicle cabin. It filters the air we breathe in the car.

Is this a thing in Europe? We don't really bother with changing these filters much in North America. Owned 9 cars in 18 years and never had the need to change any of those filters. I've also never seen anybody here do it.

What does the arrow sign mean on the new filter? How do you determine the correct direction of the filter?

This means the direction of air flow. Air is drawn in through the openings under the windshield and thus the flow is monitored.
