Ylonen’s goal was absolutely nasty
I thought he roofed it directly, but it did touch Samsonov. Those moves were silky though.

There was a survey on a news site a week or 2 ago and they asked the habs fan if they would like à 3rd rounder for Ylonen and that was like 75% yes... I was flabergasted cause this kid's scoring points while being a speedy 2 way player! He's like top 50 of the best second rounders for pts/game in the league, drafted at #35!..

It's only the first game of the season but they were sloppy, falling down, Sammy didnt look great, a few non-calls and a bs call against the Leafs.

Xhekaj's aggressiveness was the highlight for me. But what a great back and forth game. A 20 shot differential, a close lucky time. Just a pure Hockey Fan.

@@jeffreycairns767 The Power Play in OT was too predictable for MTL, mostly getting the puck to Caufield, a defenseman with a heavy shot would be helpful or Suzuki shooting it more.

A mediocre season for Samsonov means a mediocre season for the Leafs. Can he play as well as he did last season? I doubt it.
Insane game tonight. This Newhook-Dach-Slafkovsky line is something to watch. Also, I think people forget how good Xhekaj can be when healthy. That guy can do everything on the ice.
Playing time was under 11 mins they needed him more

Slafkovsky’s best game in the uniform, by far, which for the Habs is by far the most important thing that could happen in this game, even if the rest had been bad. But it wasn’t, there was a lot to like here, especially new acquisition Newhook.
That Newhook-Dach-Slaf line looked great. I hope our top 6 can stay together for a while.

Montreal was clearly the better team for most of the game despite the shot totals. I'm glad the Leafs won but the Habs could be much more dangerous then many give them.
Leafs fan here. Habs GM sped up like 5 years if the rebuild. Dangerous team out there
I am liking what I see. I always loved Martin, the talent looked good, Lazer pointer shots. They were scary.
For the first game of 2023/2024 - what a thriller, i might need to take a nap now. Lots of positives and negatives on both teams, for my Habs - special teams still need so, so much work... but lots of positives with Newhook, Slaf, Guhle to name a few.
I will say our old man line of Monahan / Pearson / Gallagher did not look really good - fine 5 on 5, but Monahan failing that clear that led to the 5-5 tie.... brutal.
I was not expecting the Leafs to win. They were extremely sloppy most of the game

This was such a neck on neck game for both of these teams. Good game Toronto Maple Leafs and I'm still happy that the Montreal Canadiens got one point. One point to start the season off is better than zero points to start the season off. 😊

As a Habs fan, this was WAY better than expected. This looks like we've got really good names on the ice that could become franchise staples and stay together for a good 6-8 years. We lost because of crap penalites and a weak PK unit. That and goaltending need to change, everything else was honestly really, REALLY awesome.

Not to mention a "Video Reply Department" that is ready to call in the half inch offside as soon as MTL scored. Had TO killed the penalty, no offside call.

People wanted energy with the goal horn? They got it. The Steve Aoki remix of Pursuit of Happiness is an all-time track, one of the best high energy songs ever. And now every time the Leafs score, I'll be reminded of Project X. To me as a 27 year old, it's a W.
I'm not really a fan of either team, but this was definitely one of the most enjoyable games to watch I have seen in a while

Brilliant comeback victory for the Maple Leafs tonight! Down by a couple of goals near the end of regulation against Montreal. Pulling the goalie earlier than expected proved to definitely help! The Leafs stayed focused. Matthew's 3 goal night was amazing! Loved Mitch Marner on his wonderful shootout goal for the winner! 1st game of regular season is always important to win. Maple Leafs did it at home!

The Habs performed well but a lot to work on with penalty killing. They got a lead early. Lost a lot of wind after the challenge. Came back in the third strong and had the lead. Just an insane Toronto offense and a not fully developed defense when it was needed the most. Amazing first game for the young squad.
All Montreal is missing is a goalie, that's all.

A)I have a bad feeling Savard and Gallagher are going to be liabilities this year.
B)Slaf looked like a wayyyy better player than last year.
C) Never noticed Anderson at all, so next game he may be the best player on the ice because that’s how he operates
