  • Oral History recorded 2011-02-01. NO interviewer. Murphy just talks (and gives us a tour of some equipment from Launch Complex 36 near the end).
Murphy Wardman was the Lead Electrical Engineer for General Dynamics on the Atlas-Centaur rocket program from 1958 - 1995. They launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Complex 36. Our museum has some of the actual consoles from Complex 36! This interview is in front of them and near the end of the video, Murphy takes time to point out and explain some of their details. (He also did work on Titan-Centaur and Shuttle-Centaur.)
Murphy also tells more stories about some of the behind the scenes events and people.
NOTE: He also did an oral history interview on 2020-10-01 with additional stories available here...
    • Murphy Wardman (2020):...
Currently retired, Murphy has been a dedicated volunteer at the American Space Museum for about 20 years. He arranged for the Air Force to donate the consoles from the control center in the Complex 36 blockhouse which launched the Atlas-Centaur rockets. He wired them up for hands-on interactive display at the museum. He also was a major contributor to the Space Walk of Fame Monuments and the "Space Map".
Part of our museum's "Space Workers Oral History" project.
An ORIGINAL production of The American Space Museum, Titusville, FL.
