In the Nightcap interview, Noah had said he plans on doing the 100m & 200m double as many times up to the 2028 Olympics. He said he wants master doing both events accordingly at the Worlds/Olympics. So unless injuries happen or the coach makes a drastic change, I forsee Lyles going for the 100m & 200m World titles next year in Tokyo. Of course Lyles regaining his top position in the 200m is important but I do also believe Noah has more to give in the 100m especially since he's PB in both major finals the last 2 years at Worlds and the Olympics. Whilst the competition is stiff in the 100m & 200m, I do believe Noah is the only man at present time who can consistently complete the Double or medal in the Double. (based on his racing history and performances at major championships) The only other person who could match or surpass Noah would be Tebogo. The 400 WR comment was just an "if I ever were to" rather than "I'm going to do this moving forward". I don't think we'll see Noah Lyles doing 400m consistently soon but who knows, he's a passionate guy who wants to do it all so why not.
Noah would've needed to run sub 19.4s to beat Tebogo in Paris who ran 19.46 (+0.4) easing down over the last 10m which Noah is yet to do on the 3 occasions he's doubled 100/200m at a Major Champs Meet; 19.52 ('23 WC), 19.53 ('24 OLY Trials) & 19.70* ('24 OLY Covid Final), so will be interesting to see if this pattern continues next yr! I suspect Kishane might stop all that 'shutting down early' stuff & run a few more of his 100m races all the way through the line next yr to get his body used to it for the Tokyo WC!
@@AllInTheGame01Noah had the capabilities of running 19.4 or faster in Budapest but the wind conditions wasn't favourable to him or many athletes including Shericka Jackson who wanted the 200m WR in 2023. And even with Lyles' victory at the US Trials, he still ran the 2nd fastest time this year and he wasn't peaking at nationals. I suspect Lyles will be in a better position next year (hopefully without Covid or any injuries) to complete the double again as he has gone through this multiple times and is clearly a big stage performer. With regards to Tebogo, we will have to see if he can replicate the consistency in the 200m as this is his first major senior title. He's clearly doing very well as a younger athlete, but progression isn't always linear and continuous every year but consistency can certainly help. Kishane... We will have to wait and see because the history of injuries is alarming and can easily hold him back. Plus he has to compete at Nationals next year to qualify whilst Lyles has a championship bye.
