    • @ProjectThisHouse
      @ProjectThisHouse  4 роки тому

      Hi theresa gann. Thanks for stopping by and watching. This is called projection mapping, and consists of two parts: First the mapping, where you place the projector so its beam covers the whole house. Then you outline the shape and features of the house in a paint program on a laptop connected to the projector while it's being projected onto the house. You mark the placement of the projector, so you can repeat it when showing the finished video. Second step, is the creation of the video, using the "map" you made of the house. I use Adobe After Effects to make the video, and place the different elements so they fit the shape of the house. Textures are done in Photoshop, some of the animations are from AtmosFX, and some I make myself. This video is pretty advanced, but it's easy to get started with something simpler, and still get a great effect. :)

      @MCR6000 5 років тому +2

      @@ProjectThisHouse You've helped me with a question I've had for months. That BenQ model has a spec distance range of up to ~12', but you're using it at 30' with obviously great performance. Are you losing image at the corners to vignetting or notice that the focal image isn't flat? I've been holding off of a purchase of an Optoma EH412ST
      since it's max spec distance is 11' and I'd need it at 19' to fill the house. But I'm thinking it would work fine.

    • @ProjectThisHouse
      @ProjectThisHouse  5 років тому +3

      @@MCR6000 I think when the manufactures list their specs, they put the max distance as the furthest away you can be and still achieve the lumens they promise. So when I move my projector back to 30 ft, I'm not getting 3000 lumens anymore, but the video is still in focus (well, not 100% everywhere, as the distance from the center to the corners will vary by a handful of feet, as you mention, but it's not noticeable).

    • @ProjectThisHouse
      @ProjectThisHouse  4 роки тому

      @@duframe2008, my projector is only out on Halloween Even, so I don't really have the need for an enclosure. The one year it drizzled a little bit (so far), I put a pop-up over it. It's just positioned on a regular projector stand (google H. Wilson WPS3 Mobile Presentation Station /Projector Stand with Adjustable Shelf) that has a little shelf for my laptop. That puts the projector about 4 ft off the ground. As my house is sitting up a little bit from the front of the driveway, that makes the projector flush with the foundation of the house, which mean I have to tilt the projector down a little bit to cover everything. If you look the videos I have that are in a wider shot, you can kind of see the setup. I can't wait to see what you come up with. :)

    • @ProjectThisHouse
      @ProjectThisHouse  4 роки тому

      Hi Andrea Gleason. Thanks for watching. I think the best advice I can give is to start small. Even just lighting up the house with a great texture is a great effect. Then if that works and you feel you have time and energy, begin adding small elements to your project. The biggest mistake is to break your neck on a very ambitious idea on the first try and end up with nothing because you ran out of time or you couldn't make it look right. :)
      You'll need a projector and a computer with some video editing software, so there's also an expense in $ if you don't already have any of those. For me, I had all that, so it was just the time. :)
      If you need to buy a projector, I suggest you look for a "short throw"-model. They have more of a wide angle lens, so you can place it closer to the house and not lose too much light intensity. DON'T buy ANY projector coming out of China!! :)

      Hi Heidi. Thanks for stopping by and watching. I can tell you love Halloween as much as we do. I use a BenQ MX819ST projector with 3000 lumens. Because it's a "short throw" projector, I can place it closer to my house, so I don't lose too much light intensity. If I used a regular projector, I would have to place it further from the house and would therefore need more lumens to get the same intensity, as light loses power drastically over distance. It's hard to recommend anything without knowing your setup possibilities. :)

      ProjectThisHouse thank you so much for responding back to me! I have another question.... do you have to cover anything on the house with projection screen? I swear it looks like you cover your windows with screen. I purchased some light grey shear chiffon off amazon for this year’s projections for my windows and garage. Oh also I have a brick house and don’t think it would be a good foundation for projection. What do you think? I’ll send you a pic of it and please let me know what you think. 🧡

    • @ProjectThisHouse
      @ProjectThisHouse  4 роки тому

      Hi Heidi. Yes, I cover all windows. Both those on the garage door (cardboard) and those on the house (fitted sheets). The brick parts of your house will be a problem is it is dark bricks. We have a foundation in bricks as you can see, but they are somewhat light in color. Still I try to avoid to project anything that moves on those parts. For when I'm using my AtmosFX ghosts, I have made some wooden cut outs, so they can be placed anywhere. I hope that helps. :)

    Apparently this didn’t post before but this is definitely the best and am hoping to see the mummy host again. Was he a mummy? I mean he had bandages on lol.

      Hi Pete, thanks for stopping by and watching. He's a mummy alright, but back in his crypt sleeping for now. we'll see about a revival, or if one of his cousins will show up instead. :)

      Hi Tyler. Thank you for stopping by and watching. Well, most time is spend on getting the idea and then a lot of trial and error. Once I know what will be in it and actually start putting it together, it's pretty quick due to the initial mapping of the house can be reused year after year.

      @@tylergoble9017 Hi Tyler, I only do Halloween because it's just the one night. The setup required would make a Christmas show too much of a hassle to set up and take down every night in the weeks leading up to Christmas. :)

    This is awesome! You really should give a tutorial on how to achieve this. I would love to do something of this magnitude on my home. It will be the coolest home in the neighborhood. Thanks for sharing. What was the budget?

      Hi JaZzmine. Thank you for watching and for your kind words. I do plan on doing some tutorials in the near future. Budget for this? I've done this some years now, so I already have the equipment needed to make this (computer, software and projector), but the budget for the actual video I project onto the house is only around $40 and that is for the singing ghosts, some of the skeletons and shadow videos that I got at AtmosFX.com. :)
