My mother stayed with my stepfather who was an alcoholic and verbally and physically abusive to us kids and my mother. As children in this environment we think this is "acceptable ". I lost most of my innocent childhood and was a slave. The state then allowed them after us kids moved away at 16 years old to adopt more tender age children and foster 5 tribal tenderage children. I was shocked at how these children were treated when I stopped to visit my mother. I know both of them are in hell now. I still loved my mother but today at my age (60) I never and won't ever understand why she stayed with him?! My brother's screamed at her several times and John even moved to Missouri for most of his adult life and I have a niece and nephew that I've never met. It's a cycle that never breaks so young mothers need to make better choices.

Domestic violence knows no gender so your daughter needs to know the signs despite whoever she has a relationship with. Also men are victims of domestic violence way more than is reported (due to the Duluth model) and there are no shelters for men going through domestic abuse, no legal help, family court bias against men, etc.
