@@Butcher-m7y Delusional take. Starfield has more NPCs and more everything than Forbidden West and you'd sound unhinged to say it visually shits on it due to that. And as for the number of NPCs, Dark Tide has more enemies on screen at once than either title (with dismemberment) and still has better graphics. Meanwhile FF16 can't even maintain a 1080p internal render resolution and has to drop down to 720p...
I dk who told the devs motion blur is something player's want Even in 2023 we turn it off everytime we see it in the settings Major loss of performance and nothing impressive added to the game as whole
I loved and still love Vermintide 2, which is the spiritual predecessor to this. This one felt a bit cheaper in that the enemies will randomly start hitting you out of nowhere because the levels have so many nooks and crannies. The detail density they speak of is a detraction to the gameplay.
Then what else? FXAA is super blurry; MSAA only works properly on geometry edges, doesn't play nicely with dynamic resolution scaling, is prone to shimmering, and has a relatively huge performance impact when higher sample counts are used; while SSAA would yield the best results in terms of quality, but is far to expensive, as it basically works by rendering each frame multiple times with different sub-pixel offsets and composing the results together. TAA however is actually a very smart variant of SSAA. As it turns out, the differences between successive frames are often tiny to non-existent, or are result of simple transformations (like an object only moving a couple of pixels to the left). That means we don't have to render each frame multiple times, we can instead combine the current frame with data from the previous frames to get a very similar result. And just like SSAA can easily scale by changing the amount of samples, TAA can combine frames of different resolutions (above and below the output resolution) into a final image, which means it naturally supports up- and downscaling, as well as dynamic resolution scaling. So why does the TAA in Darktide look so bad? My guess from what I've seen is that they forgot to wiggle the sub-pixel offsets with each frame, which means while not moving, successive frames are completely identical and don't provide any additional information for the compositing step, so what you get is basically the same as having to anti-aliasing at all.
@@hababacon I know what you mean. Forza Horizon 5 for example looks incredibly sharp with its original MSAA, noticeable sharper than with the later patched in DLSS even in quality mode, which usually prefers stability over sharpness. This is no fundamental limitation of TAA though, you can have the best of both worlds. TAA gets better the higher the input resolution is, the higher the frame rate (because of smaller differences between successive frames), and how smart the compositing step is implemented (which also creates or avoids ghosting). I've recently replayed Wolfenstein The New Colossus with Nvidia's DLDSR in 2.25 mode (rendering 3240p internally and using neural network magic similar to DLSS to downscale to 2160p) and it looked _extremely_ crisp while still being perfectly stable, with zero ghosting. DLAA, while not being _that_ good in resolving tiny detail due to "only" working on native res input, can also look quite gorgeous and sharp, while being actually less expensive than MSAA with higher sample counts (like 8x).
@@zanfetsurrok No, the perf mode runs at nearly 60fps. Only FPS is affected by CPU performance. Rendering resolution is not affected by CPU performance.
exactly. a game that fits in a 60fps envelope with good image quality to me looks better than this overdetailed shit that has the IQ of a ps4 trying to run a ps5 game
I've always thought that 60fps at 1440p with no dynamic scaling should have been made mandatory for devs this generation. Relying on internal system upscaling to get a 4k output. Resolution scaling and checkerboard reconstruction should be allowed for high fidelity modes only. Make devs work within those parameters. What's great about that is that the good developers, when given limitations like that, creativity really sparks and I feel like I r would still be getting great looking games. But to summarize : Require a 1440p/60fps with no dynamic resolution scaling mode for every single game. Refuse to publish them in your store and have it be contractually required in order to release a game on their system. Allow 4k modes to have dynamic resolution scaling, checkerboard rendering, etc. Allow devs to shoot for the moon visually, and have 30fps modes. So long as there always is a perfect 1440/60fps option for people to use.
okay this is starting to piss me off 30FPS should not even be mentioned on consoles anymore game developer's need to learn how to make these games run at 60fps and once again the series x has a 4k 120fps on the box but achieves a fraction of that on this game 30fps kills the gameplay on any game
But then what do you expect the devs to do? Drop the texture quality, shadows, lighting, and number of onscreen enemies and decals even more? If that's the case that's a fair opinion to have. But somethings gotta give. Either that or game devs scale back the scope of their games in their entirety. Now PC gamers are pissed because we are only (I know we still get some) getting X1/PS4 style games. Or even worse, we don't even get PC ports anymore. I keep seeing people mention this type of stuff. Expecting consoles to do so much while the games devs are putting on them are straining them even more as time goes on. Where is this power supposed to come from? Sure there are methods to be more efficient. But that phrase I sometimes hear of "tapping all the power" or whatever is just a fantasy. We all know what's in the consoles, the hardware is set. There is nothing to be tapped into. The devs work with what they have based on the type of game they are making along with the technical skill of the team.
@vandammage1747 But we are talking about a PC first game on a console. A console that had mid range hardware from 2019, that was *almost* high end hardware in 2016. High end resolution in 2016 was 1440 and even that was unattainable for most with high graphics settings enabled. Hearing that I'd imagine you'd think that it should apply today, but the detail in games today is not what it was in 2016. It's significantly higher. So something has to drop in quality. Resolution or graphical fidelity to match the scope of the games that are being made today. What people are demanding from these consoles is just not reality. It can't be done. We can't have it all in every game. Again, if people are saying they want 1440p/1080p minimum that's a totally fine opinion to have in my mind. Just saying that if you add to on one side you must take away on the other.
@@noodles9345Yes, something's gotta give, but check out doom eternal... Much better graphics, locked on 60fps, AND some ray tracing in the 60fps mode. It's just optimization, nothing can justify the TAA problems exhibited in the video...

Nothing new with Fatshark, their motto is release it regardless the state a game is and then take a year or sometimes two to bring up to snuff. Darktide on PC on release ran poorly and had so many features, QoL stuff and content missing, only now a year later with the recent class voerhaul it finally feels like the game we should've gotten a year ago. Same story with Vermintide 1 and 2 really, the devs never change, though maybe to be more specific it's probably down to whoever is calling the shots in the company and not the entire studio's fault.
Shouldn’t see why not of you lower internal res to 1080p and 30fps unless it’s stupidly heavy on cpu. Can’t imagine a pc game would cut off the entire mid range or lower pc market, wouldn’t leave many people loft to play the game
We should have stopped trying to get better graphics 5 years ago. They were good enough. Devs should have used the power of series x and powerful pcs to better the physics in games instead of just making them prettier. Imagine what games could be like if all that power was used in physics instead of graphics. Honestly I’d be good with graphics from 2014 if they used the last ten years to better physics instead of graphics.

@@Spr1ggan87 doubt
@@12coco100it definitely crams more detail and effects in along with giant hordes. The art style may be more or less appealing but the graphics at max settings are beyond what consoles can do. This doesn't excuse them if they can't scale it right for consoles of course
@@Spr1ggan87 No it doesn't, i played the game back in early access and it's not graphically ahead of any of them, these games historically have had an impressive number of npcs at once which obviously is very CPU tasking especially in the late rounds but it's in no way visually ahead of FF16 / SM2, in terms of lighting, particle effects, shadow details they shit on it both.
I tested ray-tracing last year and RT doesn't really change the image significantly enough to justify turning it on.
720p30...a true next gen experience. Game looks great though.

I loved and still love Vermintide 2, which is the spiritual predecessor to this. This one felt a bit cheaper in that the enemies will randomly start hitting you out of nowhere because the levels have so many nooks and crannies. The detail density they speak of is a detraction to the gameplay.
Vermintide 2 was in a similar shitty state at release, like darktide. This studio is well known for releasing their games in dogshit condition
UnOptimized even on PC, i wonder why they release it for consoles!?

Thank you! Been loving this game so much and it looks beautiful. The particle effects and lighting is insane
TAA has become horrible. Devs, please stop using it.
Sadly it’s prob cuz of performance issues and it’s the cheapest or slightly cleaner like msaa2 can look jagged asf so man
@mystic3309 Yeah, I think that's why the new Forza 8 is using it. It blurs, has always blurred graphics like FXAA.
@NeovanGoth MSAA, I prefer sharper AA and can deal with a little bit of shimmering. TAA still has shimmer and ghosting, plus it's blurry.
This makes no sense. SS at 720p vs 864p of SX (at 2x the fps). The SX is 3x more powerful, so SX perf mode should run at a higher res.
@@zanfetsurrok No, the perf mode runs at nearly 60fps. Only FPS is affected by CPU performance. Rendering resolution is not affected by CPU performance.
Devs need to stop shooting foe the moon with all these graphical bells and whistles.
exactly. a game that fits in a 60fps envelope with good image quality to me looks better than this overdetailed shit that has the IQ of a ps4 trying to run a ps5 game
Exactly! Gears 5 on xbox one looks better than this@@GraveUypo
But to summarize :
Require a 1440p/60fps with no dynamic resolution scaling mode for every single game.
Performance tanks the resolution far too much in my opinion. It makes the game very unsightly.
Playing a first person shooter at 30 fps should be illegal.
okay this is starting to piss me off 30FPS should not even be mentioned on consoles anymore game developer's need to learn how to make these games run at 60fps and once again the series x has a 4k 120fps on the box but achieves a fraction of that on this game 30fps kills the gameplay on any game
1080p and 1440p should be the bare minimum render resolutions for the Series consoles. Anything less than that is horrible to look at
But then what do you expect the devs to do?
Yet DF thinks a 900p game looks good and 30fps is fine. DF turning into a joke
Да уж, ждали когда консоли заработают на полною а в итоге они умерли

We should have stopped trying to get better graphics 5 years ago. They were good enough. Devs should have used the power of series x and powerful pcs to better the physics in games instead of just making them prettier. Imagine what games could be like if all that power was used in physics instead of graphics. Honestly I’d be good with graphics from 2014 if they used the last ten years to better physics instead of graphics.
