Awesome!!! ...the music, ...the boats, ...the epic battle to the finish line... sure was one adrenaline rush to see this video. Congratulations and keep up the good work Bro. ;)
What a great follow through - have just watched a 'how to sail a lateen' so this great race helped mightily to cement things in to place. Have been watching car/motorcycle 'souping-up' but it just doesn't have this beauty for me.
la bas , grace à un groupe de passionnés ces dernieres années. , on peut voir peut etre la plus belle régatte de voiliers traditionnels en europe de l ouest ;
I mean really who needs AC75's and IMOCA60's, these simple honest working boats are way more exciting here! Nothing to teach the Tuga about sailing. Video Rambler thanks so much, I feel like I have waited a lifetime to have Lateen rig explained, it is such closed world if English is your only language. More please. Something on how these shoal draft hull shapes generate enough lift to get to windward would be great.
Hi! These boats are awesome and some can point as high as my GIS! They are not that "shoal draft" , Princesa has like 4 feet draft near the transom. If you want to know a bit more how these Lateen rigs work i have a couple more videos about it. 😉 ua-cam.com/video/9Y9-Idmh3xA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/oaaMgkCiB3s/v-deo.html
@@TheBoatRambler I lapped those up too! The GIS stuff is good as well, but any more vids featuring any kind of Portuguese trad sailing vessels would for sure find a wide audience.
@@TheBoatRambler Yeah, that's totally understandable. Last thing you want to do is smash these lovely boats into each other. I just kept wanting him to shift further away for more separation coming into the mark, and then he could turn inside and get above the other boat. Sorry, I spent too many years racing - hard to get out of the system.
Thanks for the honest feedback, it's always welcome. There was a lot of wind noise which I couldn't cancel out so I opted for music only . Guess I could have dialed the audio level down a notch or two...😅 I do tend to spend a lot more time fixing the audio tracks nowadays, it's a continuous learning process...😉
Close, but that bottom rounding about half way through the video, where you maintained an overlap to the mark, that was a tactical error because it forced you to do a wide rounding in his lee. You actually had the advantage on approaching the mark, by forcing the other boat to do a close pass, made him round wide pushing him further downwind. If you had slowed enough to just break the overlap almost at the mark, you could have started rounding before coming level with the mark. This would have allowed you to round inside of his stern which would have given you the upwind advantage at the start of that windward leg. Now you know how to win a rounding battle.
Thanks for the tips Ken! You are correct on your approach but It wouldn't be easy to just slow down almost 5000Kg with a 12m yard and 55sqm sail when going downwind...... 😁
@@TheBoatRambler True, it's not easy with any sail boat but possible & there can be risks. I was really hoping to see you cheekily cut inside behind him and take the lead on that rounding, that would have been so fun to see.
The best, most dramatic and most realistic sailing videos I know. Big congratulations!
Big thank you! 😉
Beautiful vessels in an professional documentary . Well done!
Thank you !
These beautiful boats are over 100 years old and are a living piece of our history!
What an awesome race...heart ponding. Must have been a lot of fun!!!
Hi Livio!
Yes it was awesome! Over 1 hour race and what a finish!! 💪

Thanks dude!
More on those to come in the near future! ;)
Stay C00l and have fun!
Really good vid! I enjoyed the cinematic music. It was better than watching a sailing scene in Game of Thrones!
It's usually better when it's real! 😁
Wow. That was great. Really exciting. Why spend millions on America's cup when you can have this 😂. Thanks.
I know, right? 😁😁
Fantastic! Princesa do Tejo had a better start, but Papa Milhas looks faster and really good in last tacking lap. Great footage!
Thanks Robert!
Papa Milhas has a brand new rig! that was her first race with a Lateen rig.
Princesa's Rig is on the way out, new sail soon! 😉

Hi Greg!
Yes , these boats are gorgeous! Their skippers take extremely good care of them too!!
Fantastic video - really enjoyed the action and such a tight finish to end it all.
it was the closest finish I've seen in a while between these two! 😉
Beautiful and surprisingly close, hope to see more like this!
Thanks!
Will be making more of these as regattas get rescheduled! 😉
I like the guy in the white boat at 4:55 calmly smoking a cigarette while 30,000lbs of boats are 8 ft apart
That's Fabio, his main and only task is to provide rail weight when needed! 😉

Very exciting footage and great editing. Thanks!
Thank you Fred! 😉
Beautiful and exciting. We need more of these videos...thanks for sharing.
Thanks George!
I'm sure more will follow! 😉
@@TheBoatRambler woohoo, can't wait. 🤩
I was hoping you would be able to pass them at that downwind mark where you were side-by-side...
The skipper didn't want to force things... it's all done for fun! 😉

wow that was close
Yes!
Amazing that after over one hour of race these two boats with different starts and strategies came that close!
