  • Buffalo's First Ward tells the story of the neighborhood through the voices of those who live there. The First Ward, and its residents, have a fierce pride. That pride and endurance are responsible for the rebirth happening in the Ward today. Buffalo's First Ward captures this feeling of camaraderie and through it teaches us about where Buffalo has been and also where it might be going.

Wow...back when people were real and had real thoughts in their heads. A few left there. Hang in there, Buffalo

Some of this is in the adjacent neighborhood known as The Valley; 18:30 for instance.

I'm not Irish but I really enjoyed watching this and think it is a great idea for all ethnic neighborhoods to celebrate and enjoy the traditions and hard work of the prior generations.

Indeed! Most people are not aware of their heritage. They should read it like a book and announce it proudly! Let’s go first warders!!!

Self contained neighborhoods, with corner stores, barber shops, meat markets, delis, hardware stores, taverns, etc, were common in most neighborhoods back in the day. This all mostly faded away with the appearance of malls in the late 60s / early 70s (“out Seneca” & “down Grant”).
I was fortunate to get the last glimpse of this, growing up in 60s.

I grew up in the 1960s .. all I heard about the Ward were the issues in “the projects”. Aside from the employees of the few remaining businesses, most rarely went there.

How long will the old silos be able to stay standing, before age/deterioration will necessitate them to be torn down?
