Arts and Crafts Style needs to be understood as the first of several attempts to come to grips with the implications of industrialization by opposing its most deleterious effects. It's influences were Gothic Revival, Medieval Romanticism and especially in the case of William Morris, social reform for craftsmen/designers. It was followed by Victorian, Art Nouveau, Mission Revival, Craftsman, Art Deco and finally Prairie styles. Bauhaus and Modernism represented more acceptance of industrialization, mass production, and machine finishes rather than hand crafting.
We need an arts and crafts revival.
It looks good, but without captions I can't follow a word as I'm deaf. I expect an Institution like OU to provide them.
It's automated.. & pretty rubbish to be honest. Much better for a live person to subtitle what's being said.
@@kittybeek69 I see what you did there, you are a practitioner of arts and crafts are you?
Haha late joke but I think its hilarious
@@letsrank9349 good one xD
This Morris guy is like the first hipster
Actually he’s more like Bernie Sanders, if Sanders was an artist.
Hi, its a great job!!! What software you use to make these animated videos?
I think the video game industry deserves its own arts and crafts movement. We just need some talented developers who favor the quality of the game over quick, low effort, money-grabbers.
William Morris was born in 1834, not in 1843(as the video indicates)
0:59 Steam is not that bad, they have some pretty good offers.
noice
coolll
Where's the examples (no illustrations?) in this video?
dude you're amazing i love this!
One correction: William Morris was born in 1834, not 1843.
This Is actually awesome !!
know your worth!
why this vide in 2 min exaplained me smt i couldnt find a short and nice explanation?
I rather liked this video/series. People should know about this.
this was really helpful, thanks!
Bloody gorgeous, and big help on knowing more about the subject.
Great video. I loved it. Just one thing, if anyone can help me. I can't understand what he says at 0:46 "perfecting his skill and ... ?"
[Puts on best Scottish accent] "Perfecting his skill... and it showed".
Thanks!!
Portuguese captions pleaseeee!!
if arts and crafts movement was were pre industrial revolution doesn't red dead redemption include it, and skyrim, as both show ordinary workers and craftspeople
Loved this! ✨
he'd love today's world............
Great Video!!!!
Really nice video, thank you very much for making it :) There is a small mistake in the subtitles, however: In the very first sentence "bottle hats" should be "bobble hats".
For some things, "hand made" is nice, but for precision instruments and machinery, you can't beat computerized, robotic manufacturing.
I dabble in electronic music... You could say that I'm mastering my machines.
hello mr beedon!! I didn't know you had a UA-cam channel!
como se llama mi canal???
I have a feeling this was made using After effects :)

0:55 Steam sucks. Are you signalling anything?
This is where the Human race should have stayed. All movements after this were junk.
what about modernism, minimalism and geometric design? They're not too bad, in fact, one could say minimalism was one of the best movements in recent history.
I would say that Art Deco was also a good place to stop. Minimalism is another word for boring.
I guess it's all subjective. I also agree with you with art deco, great bloody movement
