Could you show one specific part where he plays notoriously differently to Mangini? I cannot remember the og version so well that I could hear where this man differs from it, even though I have listened to it many many times. I'm just curious to find some of the differences and it would be easier to start if someone pointed a clear difference in some part. Thanks.
The fact that this guy has 18.6K subscribers instead of 18.6M is beyond me. Absolutely unbelievable playing, and to learn this song so quickly. Just unreal.
same, makes no sense. although this is my little pooint of view on the topic of this type of "elite" music. it was only meant for a select few to be played and enjoyed by. doesnt make t the most widely available/appreciated things people gonna get. still should be more well know. the grammy helps. but they are still the metal music nerds you knew in high school, just taken to the en'th degree. fair?
Incredible !! Not sure why the Portnoy comparisons always. When played by an extremely talented human being, it sounds like this. When played by an alien, it sounds like Mangini does.
Man, you are brutal, you nail each note and also, you make some other arrangement, sincerely congratulations because it is a difficult song and you do it perfectly. YOU'RE VERY GOOD UNCLE, A CRACK JEJEJ
2:39 WOW That fill is so tight! This is absolutely world class playing Glen and you clearly know how to mix drums very well. you are criminally underrated!
Personally i put in the title "Drum Interpretation" and is just that what made a huge diference between be a clone or be a creator. Congratulations for your amazing interpretation, and in some moments is inevitable imagine you as an actualized and even evolutioned version of Portnoy. 👏👏👏
Dude, you cover one of the best, and most technical prog band drummer. Not enough, you cover new material which is admirable. Great great work mister Monturi.
I reckon he'd be 80% there after a single listen. He's been listening and playing dream theater and the like for years. It sounds big, long, epic and bloody mental to you and I. Breaks it down to sections, many of which are as easy as breathing, then focus on the few challenging parts. He'd probably spend only a few hours to learn it, few more to record, few more to mix. He's a pro.
It’s not like he’s a hobbyist one year drummer. He’s been playing for decades with Dream Theater being his main influence, takes his significantly less time to learn it than you and I
Well, just looking at his drum and play style you can tell it’s a big DT fan, specially Portnoy fan. He’s been uploading almost every DT song, so, he probably heard the new album like 20 times as soon as it was available lol I do the same honestly but I don’t record myself playing drums. Also, the Portnoy style is really dominant here, he could have just named the video AVFTTOTW but with young Portnoy double lol
Credit goes to Mangini, awesome drums composition. To those who said his drumming sounds like robot, actually he thousand times better than robots. Missing MM in DT. All his albums are awesome. Why he sounds like Portnoy? Because MP uses a lot of splash cymbals, thats the only difference.
Fukn love that fill at the end of the interlude. Its simple, but the best things always are. What gives it the x factor is that it starts on the hats. Very common to have hats/cymbal hits within fills, but they're usually either maintaining the groove, or accenting. But here they are the actual fill. Very minor distinction I'm making I know, I'm not really a drummer but I pay very close attention to their work. Drummers may correct me or explain better. 11:00
For a split second, I thought JP was playing Mike's practice kit, while he was sleeping...just kidding; although you do kinda look like him. What a piece. Masterful job here:) Shows just how much Mangini has grown into his role. His best playing hands down...Thanks Mike:)
Oh Dude!!! What a huge, brilliant drummer you are!!! Maybe you do not have another daily work and you play drums all day so this is an explanation for so fast learning but not all people learn something with the same speed as you do!!! It's phenomenal!!
@@AnnWahlquist Yes reading music is an extra weapon ofcourse but if a theme is full of patterns and different time signatures is very difficult to perform it perfectly but yes reading helps a lot.
Spirit of Mike Portnoy carries on with your gameplay. Thx !! Respect of the fills and MP time signatures. Sorry for M Mangini who brought a new drum identity to DT, but the MP drum style is so unique and still gives me so much emotion.
Well played my friend, technically you are from the top league, I am drummer myself so i can tell when someone is playing outstandingly well, and you are one of these people, but sometimes I think that there is happening too much on the drums, some parts are really dense and full of fills and chops, but that is only my humble opinion, still you are an amazing drummer, and as a fan of Portnoy myself, you are really kepping his spirit in your play, well done🎉❤
Thanks everyone!! A little hint on what’s coming next: I’m going to have to be quiet.. because somethin big is coming ; )
sleeping giant is my best guess!
@@kazu2736 If it's from this album, it's gonna be awaken the monster.
Bigger than what my dear wonderful drummer? Are you Jesus coming back to earth? Great videos in your channel... God bless you...
@@EetFuk8 up
You participate to Dream Theater as Session drummer??
It's like Portnoy playing Mangini's parts - love it. Amazing job
Agreed, to a degree.
I was about to type the same thing!!!!
Because of the drumsetup.... This is closer to how portnoy has it setup...
@@AnnWahlquist his olaying is closer to mp aswell

also a thing i dont think individuals should pursue without staying within their means.
Oh god this piece is so difficult, I cant imagine my self playing this song. Even years of practising. U gotta be a hell of a best drummer.
you can do it! just break it down into the different patterns
You were the Monster, the Alien ,the Giant and the Awaken Master...the One living on the Top Of the World..... 👏👏👏
Incredible !! Not sure why the Portnoy comparisons always. When played by an extremely talented human being, it sounds like this. When played by an alien, it sounds like Mangini does.
Can we also appreciate how that kit sounds.....holy hell
In fact, it's way better than that of Mangini's.
@@EetFuk8 with a whole lot more drums than Mangini played on this album
