When Barney says, then you do believe in Mr. Mcbeevee, and Andy says, no but I do believe in Opie. That is one of the greatest lines ever said in the history of television.
I've come across this comment about 1000 times from 1000 other television historians that would disagree with you.
@@philonetwentyseven5308 It's called faith! Believing even when it doesn't seem possible, or you can't see beyond your own "reasoning" mind!
Yes but Don Knotts messed up the line. Don was supposed to say _"So you believe in Mr. McBeevy?"_ *not* so you DO believe in Mr McBeevy.
Small thing, but it kinda takes some of the punch out of what Andy says. Just slightly though. Still a powerful line from Andy
@@philonetwentyseven5308 why do you gotta be a douche. Its his opinion, you dont get to tell him he's wrong. God, you people got nothing better to do.
you are right that is one of the best comebacks I have ever heard in television.
This has always been my favorite of all episodes. Andy's faith in Opie is so powerful. Ron Howard is an amazing actor.
Love this episode. The Love Andy shows and Faith in Opie.
It's How GOD loves us, me.. He hugs and Blesses us.
I could relate to both Andy and Opie. I grew up with a similar situation and wanted someone to believe me like Andy could. It didn't happen. This is why this scene touched my heart. When TV could bring live as it should happen.
Greatest TV show of all time.we ( as a society) need to go back to those days.
Yea.
Tell that to the African Americans.
Lets see how well that would fly slick.
Good show, but not realistic at all. A rural small town in North Carolina would have a sizable black population, as well as some Native Americans and other minorities, none of whom were ever present on the show.
@@markadkins8388 But "Mayberry" was in northwest North Carolina (Mount Airy) Not many black people up in there, Scots Irish mainly.
Lots of blacks and people of English and German descent in central and eastern NC though. Cherokee in western NC and Lumbee in east, not in great numbers.
Even though Opie knew he would be punished, he stuck to the truth! A life lesson for us all. This scene always comes to my mind when I think of this show. Wish we had shows like this now.
@@brianmears3388 Yeah he definitely was. This was the only episode of TAGS where I really truly hated Andy.
I also like that episode when opie breaks his piggy bank to return the $50 to the man that lost it and Andy thought he was on a spending spree. Good moral lessons on that show.
By far the best episode. I couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw when Andy finally met Mr. Mcbeevee.
at 53 years old, i get a teary eyed watching this scene every time. It is fantastic acting.
Me too. At this point and again later, when Andy is in the woods and says "Mr. McBeeevee" and hears from above "HELLO. Somebody call?" LOL.
same here . Totally cried , first when Andy didnt believe Opie and again when Mr McBeeVee finally appeared to Andy .
The best episode of the greatest show ever on television. That's my honest belief. This show was about love. Unconditional. Period.
I recommend you watch "Opie the Birdman" . That one might become your favorite episode, as it, too, has a memorable storyline. Just spot-on performances from the cast.
im telling you-this is some fine acting -this show is an example of how humans should carry themselves in different situations.
I watch the Andy Griffith show everyday.. this is why
The best for me was the vindication when Andy actually meets him.
I watched this show growing up and this is part of who I am too. I love these kid of stories.
I am 65 years old and this makes me cry every time I watch it.
I'm 65 also and l'm teary-eyed just watching this clip again. This is my favorite episode of the whole series!!
That scene with Andy and Ron Howard is one of the best the show ever offered. It doesn’t have to be funny to be great.
RIP Andy griffith, this is a great loving eposoide, and my favorite one. One of the most memorble and best eposoides. Thumbs up if you agree.
This an example of faith, integrity, and honesty that was fundamental to most of America. Now, we have far too many in our great country that would love to eradicate these foundations and replace them with immoral and unethical ideology to satisfy the ever increasing selfishness of younger generations.
IVE SEEN THIS EPISODE HUNDREDS OF TIMES. NEVER GETS OLD
What a great scene, and one that always makes me tear up. Andy Griffith was excellent in it (as usual) and Ronny Howard showed that he was one of the best child actors ever. "No. I do believe in Opie." God, that's a great example of a parent's love.
Agreed. This is one of the best scenes ever played out on television.
"Sometimes you just have to believe the unbelievable." "MR MCBEEVEE!"
I believed in Andy Griffith.
Could you please tell me what happened between Opie and Mr. McBeevey? Why did Andy say he believed in Opie?
Arguably one of the most moving scenes in TAGS series, due in large part to Ronny Howards superb acting abilities.
This episode makes a grown man tear up. This is pure greatness. Thanks for uploading
At 67 I'm still loving this show more and more!!! Learned so much about life from this show!!!!
I loved when Andy said I do believe in Opie. That touched my heart and it showed that he cared about his son.
This is the best show about what a real man should do. And I'm talking about the father and the son!
Fine acting from Andy & Ron.👏 This scene always makes me tear up.😥 Andy believes in Opie & knows he is telling the truth.
At this point in the show, Andy does not believe that Mr Mcbeevee is real. He goes along with it because he believes in Opie
Ron Howard aka Opie Taylor, was one of the best child actors of all time.
I agree. He didn't get enough credit for his great acting. I think Ron Howard and Johnny Crawford were the best child actors ever.
I used to watch this with my dad, and the anxiety this episode gave me was immense. When Opie is about to lie to get outta trouble, but he can’t because he knows the truth and wants to be truthful, that was heavy.
As adults we should try to never forget since we were once children and that they tend to perceive things differently than adults. Imagination in a child should always be encouraged as there is nothing in our society that exists that was not first imagined by someone.
My two favorite Andy Griffith episodes are this one and "Opie's Charity" The ending of that one is classic too. "You and Aunt Bea are having fried chicken. I'm eating crow."
Mine is the one where Opie kills a momma bird with the slingshot and ends up taking care of the babies till they can take care of themselves. I dont know the episode name but that is a deep valuable lesson to learn
Outstanding scene
Every time it gets me. Every time.
If there is a better father-son/parent-child scene in movies or TV, I don't know what it would be.
this was the best episode of the andy Griffith show to me
Hats off to the writers for such great and memorable lines. Such great acting to make it work on screen.
Lovely show. They don’t make them like this anymore.
22 years old when I found the Andy Griffith show just turned 23 and I prefer these shows that make you think and feel like a dad would than anything else on today. This scene made me relate to Opie.
I love that even when the odds was against Opie, Andy believed his son, n Opie told the truth!! Powerful stuff!!
When Andy says "but i do believe in Opie", makes me teary eyed everytime!
A cat wandered into my yard and adopted me. I named him Mr. McBeevey. This show is good for the soul!
Could you please tell me what happened between Opie and Mr. McBeevey? Why did Andy say he believed in Opie?
Mr. McBeevey was a utility worker-he was working up in the trees when Opie saw him. Opie's description
to Andy was difficult to understand or believe. Hope you get to see the episode. When Andy comes across
Mr. McBeevey himself, it is a great scene. This is a wonderful episode-like to so many in this fine, treasured series.
The greatest show ever written about faith, believing in what you can't see, sticking to your guns at the risk of persecution, and believing in those you love.
I still think one of the best, if not THE best, scenes ever done on this show was when Opie gave up his after school job at the little grocery store so the other boy could help support his family. Andy, in his misplaced pride in Opie, thought Opie was being a slacker....until he learned the truth (from the grocer, I think it was), and then his pride in Opie pretty much tripled.
There were a number of episodes along this line---Opie doing the right thing, but Andy not believing him until the boy was proven right, and then Andy had to swallow his pride and admit he'd made a mistake.
My favorite kind of episode.
Yep the THIRD time in the show (at least) where Andy assumes the worst in Opie's intentions...the others being where he breaks the piggy bank with $50 to give it back to the guy who lost it, and the one where Opie wouldn't donate money to a school charity drive because he's saving up to get a classmate a new coat to replace her old worn down one.
Yes, this other episode you mentioned would have to be another favorite episode of mine, too. What life lessons we learn from this classic TV show. We should ALL learn from these two episodes. We would be so much better off for it !!
Andy got quite the surprise when he met Mr. Mc Beevee.
Yes indeed I remember this episode. The telephone line repairman 👌
My favorite episode. Andy decided to believe his boy even it didn’t make sense.
I saw this for the first time last night and I absolutely love it.
such a great father figure.
This is how Ron Howard learned his craft. Andy Griffith , Don Knotts and the producers taught him principles and humility.
I cried when watching this for the first time. I thought that poor little Opie really was going to get a whipping just because Andy assumed that he lied about Mr. McBeavy even though in this particular situation if Mr. McBeavy wasn't there when Opie thought he would be (which couldn't be helped), most parents would most likely be suspicious and think that he made him up just to get attention or "get out of work" or "to try to explain things that just seem to come from nowhere". But Opie sticks to the truth and in one of the later scenes Andy says, "Mr. McBeavy" and to his surprise Mr. McBeavy comes down from the tree and he quickly discovered that Mr. McBeavy was not only real, but EXACTLY the way Opie described him all this time!!😄😂💕💕💕
Love this old show Thank God for Auntie BeeS wise influence in tempering Andy
Great show life was simple and great for a while.
This scene pulls at my heart strings!💗
Andy told Opie to tell the truth and he did, This episode was awesome as was all of Andy Griffith show episodes.
Great writers
Andy reminds me of my dad, he always talked to me about my behavior and the errors in my judgements. Mom, however, was hell on wheels and ready to whip my body with whatever was close and as long as her energy held.
Love this episode, father and son confiding in each other, Opie tell's the truth, so loving of a father, melt's your ❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!!!🥀🥀🥀🥀.....2022....
This one and Opie's Charity are my two favorites. Both times Andy learns more about his Son than he knew before, and gained more faith in him in the process.
I could never pick a favorite 'Andy' show, they are wonderful. I have some on dvd.
AUNT BEA ,, THE LOOK ON HER FACE ,, DEEP RESPECT AND LOVE 💘
I'm 64. I cry every time I've seen this.
REST IN PEACE ANDY. Opie, Ron Howard was one of the best actors of all times. So smart.
Values 1961 > Values 2021.
I wish it hadn't stopped just before the scene when Andy goes back out to the woods and says "Mr. McBeevee!", and he replies "Hello, did somebody call?"
There is a further scene when Barney answers the phone in the courthouse and Mr. McBeevee is on the other end of the line. Barney is in disbelief as Mr. McBeevee turns out to be a real person. Andy starts smiling at Barney's reaction. What a great way to wrap up a classic episode!!!!
I think my favorite Andy Griffith episode
This is certainly a gem, and nicely posted. Always remembered that last line, since I was a kid. This and " Man in a hurry" are 2 of my favs, but there were so many...More people should model themselves after his character and help turn the world around.
I love the Andy Griffith show it's on TV land its about love ❤ I like watching that show I'm sixty five vickie bell napa ca
The Father every child should have
This is my number 1 favorite Andy Griffith show!!!! The birdman man would be next, (Opie killing the mama bird) then a stranger in town!!! (Where the guy wants to fit in after just reading about the town from the newspaper)
How many remember how this episode ended--how they concluded the issue with Mr. Mcbeevee?
Andy meets Mr. McBeevee in the woods and it's such a great scene. Please watch the whole episode again. You will love it!!!!
Got to thinking of Mr. McBeevee and that if ever I had a race horse, that'd be his name..."come from nowhere", as Andy said. Meanwhile, back to reality, glad you posted this. Always been a favorite episode of mine, too. Thanks.
This show had its serious moments why was so popular.
Best Episode Ever!
I loved this episode
Barney: You do believe in Mr. McBeevee?
Andy: No, but I do believe in Opie.
Weep.
Could you please tell me what happened between Opie and Mr. McBeevey? Why did Andy say he believed in Opie?
+Lana Tran He's trusting on blind faith of Opie's word. Andy sees how far Opie would go with his Mr. McBeevee story that he would risk having punishment to STILL stand by that story. In the end of the episode, Andy FINALLY confronts Mr. McBeevee...
The scene after this video ends is something special. Andy goes back out to the woods and shouts "Mr. McBevee!" and he replies "Hello! Somebody call me?" Andy kept shaking his hand. In the epilogue, Andy tells Barney that saw Mr. McBeevee in the woods "right where Opie said he was".
@@lanat1512
earlier in the show, Opie was playing in the fields when he crossed a lineman who was finishing his work. The lineman was coming down from a power pole (spikes connected to shoes was how linemen climbed up and down poles), wearing a gleaming hard hat (metal, in those days); his tools were attached to his work belt (rattling, as he came down the pole). Mr McBeevee started talking to opie, and showed him a magic trick (make smoke come out of his ears, pulled a quarter out of thin air and gave it to opie). As they became friends, Mr. McBeeVee also gave opie some old used tools.
So now Opie comes home, talking about a man who walks in the trees (utility pole), head gleaming (hard hat), rattling when he walks (tool belt), giving him money and tools.
Dad wonders if he is stealing and lying.
A child's description never makes sense unless you either care to think like a child or open your heart. sheriff Taylor did the latter.
Later the next day, Taylor was out in the woods where Opie claimed to see this person, thinking out loud and wondering about his son.
Exasperated, Taylor exclaims, MR McBeeVee, at which Mr. McBeeVee answers (as he climbs down a power pole, wearing the gleaming metal hat and rattling from his belt).
Truly one of my most favorite episodes!
I love this one
The greatest comedy drama show in history
All parents should be like Andy very strict and a lot of love to his child rip Andy
I and my siblings were BLESSED to have BOTH a mom and dad Soo very similar. R.I.P. Mom and Dad, you BOTH are greatly missed 😢.
One of the best episodes.
Back when parents were serious about raising honest and respectable children. Where did the Mayberrys go. I keep looking and I can't find them anywhere.
Yes, a great choice. I wish more parents would believe in their kids nowadays.
I Love watching these old series! Thank you!
Opie was a better child than all of us
I've watched these since they come out in 1960. I think I've got em all memorized by now.
There are three other episodes where Andy conveys a faithless father--"Keeper of the Flame," "Opie's Fortune," and "Opie's Charity."
I love Andy
The most important thing a parent can do is believe what your child tells you. I had something terrible happen to me and my mom didn’t believe me. It caused life long trauma that took lots of counseling to overcome the traumatic event.
My favorite A.G.S. episode ever!!!!
I agree,, this reminds me of How JESUS Loves me. Us. ❤️🙏
How my Dad and Mom and family Loved me too❤️❤️
Great choice of video my friend.
Great episode/Great Show....How much things have changed! Today Opie would be placed in foster care when Andy (even) threatened to spank Opie.
Andy Griffith is exactly 6 days younger than Miles Davis. who was born on May 26th 1926.
Should be more than 900 views though. Guess everyone's too busy keeping up with the damn Kardashians.
My favorite also.
this scene makes me cry.
But I love when Andy met Mr. McBeavy
I like to believe that Andy secretly knows the truth (even though Barney doesn’t), and was testing Opie to see if he'd sell out
When the Sundance network plays this episode of Andy Griffith, they cut out the part where Andy descends the stairs and explains to Barney and Aunt Bea that he believes in Opie...the best part of one of the best episodes. Not sure why they cut it out.
I love this
Griffith should have earned an Emmy for this performance.
I agree. Ditto for Ron Howard. Not a finer child actor around
