Very common confusion - this is actually Ukrainian folk song "The Cossack Rode beyond the Danube", and has nothing to do with Russia.

Thank you for the information and correction! In fact, the title used by the publisher Breitkopf in 1862 is "Air de la Petite Russie", referencing Ukraine as identified at the time.
