- This, in my honest opinion, is full-on garden railway eye candy!
Chris Tilley's truly picturesque 'Barle Valley' line was our weekend destination on 9th October 2021. A representation of the Two Moors 16mil Group, being myself, Pat and Paul, enjoyed the excellent scenery, the good company and an opportunity to run over the metals in this sunny part of Somerset. Also a few local lads made up the numbers.
The layout is an absolute delight to examine in close detail, and the video does not really do it all justice. One day maybe I can shoot it in 3D. That would be icing on the cake for stereoscopic nerds like myself.
An eclectic assortment of locos, including my Roundhouse 'Tom Rolt' with a rake of shortened Brandbright coaches and repainted Accucraft I.O.M ones, included both 16mil:1ft and 7/8ths scales, the latter of which is the railways' normal guise. The scene really opened my eyes to how a garden railway can look its best from a devotion to creating atmosphere and realism.
I do apologise for the slightly blurred coverage of Chris's other joy, that of his interest in 009 modelling, and the WW1 layout shown is an example of his equal attention to fine detail.
Thanks Chris for a wonderful day and, as promised, I hope my opening theme from 'Dances With Wolves' meets with your approval. The piano piece is one of my own which I've called (for want of a better title) 'Somerset Serenade'. But then I'm just a soppy sentimentalist. I hope you all enjoy this footage as much as I've enjoyed sharing it.
We now have a brand new website at: twomoorsgroup.org
