It's really sad to discover, again and again, that people DON'T KNOW who Barbra Streisand is, was, and always will be. It's been said here already, but Barbra is without peer. She belongs in every decade. She's been singing since the early 60's and has had hits in every decade since. Actress, singer, director, composer, activist, and more.

Barbra Streisand is not only a singer and an actress, but also a songwriter, writer, film and television producer, and director.
Streisand is the only artist who is concurrently a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and Actors' Equity Association, as well as the honorary chairwoman of the board of directors of Hadassah's International Research Institute on Women.
With the release of Yentl in 1983, Streisand became the first woman to write, produce, direct, and star in a major studio film. The film won an Oscar for Best Original Score and a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Musical. Streisand also received the Golden Globe Award for Best Director, becoming the first (and for 37 years, the only) woman to win that award.
Streisand later produced and directed The Prince of Tides (1991) and The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996).

You Have No Idea! (but that's ok). Barbra signed her first album in 1962 at the age of 19. Since then she has released 71 albums, so yeah, she's a singer. She is the ONLY artist, male or female, to have at least one #1 album in each of the last 6 decades (1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, 2000's, and 2010's). She has a huge catalog of music in a multitude of genres. She is an incredible actress and won an Oscar for her very first movie Funny Girl, a musical comedy/drama biopic of real-life vaudeville entertainer Fanny Brice. Her most highly regarded and recommended movies are Funny Girl, Hello Dolly, On a Clear Day, The Owl & the Pussycat, What's Up Doc, The Way We Were, A Star is Born, Nuts, Yentl, The Prince of Tides and The Mirror has Two Faces. Some are musicals, some dramas, some comedies ... all brilliant. You will be amazed at the depths of her talent. She also directed Yentl, The Prince of Tides and The Mirror Has Two Faces. I really hope you will watch some of these other movies that you haven't seen her in (my top recommendations: Funny Girl, The Way We Were, What's Up Doc and Yentl). You were spot on regarding the music/orchestrations for Yentl. The entire soundtrack/score is amazing, but you would want to hear it in conjunction with watching the movie because the songs are all descriptive/relevant in forwarding the narrative of the movie.
Thank you for your reaction. I hope you continue to delve further into the Streisand songbook. She has worked and sung with virtually every legendary composer and lyricist of the past 50 + years. They all wanted to work with her.
Also watch some of her movies on your own. 👍🏻
    Continued success with your channel!

I can’t remember which concert it was (Maybe the Millennium Concert?) where she duets A Yentl medley, with herself; and boy, when she gets to the “Papa, Watch me Fly,” it hits me right in the heart. If you have the time, you should really research all the work (and convincing) she had to do to get this movie made. She is just so damn talented. She always claims she is an actress, who sings; but her voice makes me feel things that singers, who act, can’t. Thank you for the Babs reaction. Much appreciated!

You missed the best - on You Tube search Barbra Streisand Yenty Medley Live 1994 Anaheim - - she sings "Papa Can you Here Me" and then sings a duet with herself from the movie Yentyl - believe it she sings live on stage and matches her vocal with the movie vocal from Yentyl "A Piece of Sky" on the large stage screen - simply amazing - using a street term "it knocked the socks off the audience". You have to listen to her most famous "People", and a 9/ll salute during the 2001 Emmy Awards "You'll Never Walk Alone". Barbra was/is and always will be the Goddess of Song,. The movie "Yentyl" is available on You Tube as are the other movies Barbra has acted/starred in/produced/directed and or course sung.I am old enough to have grown up listening to Barbra but she is now retired and no longer performs - unless for something extremely important is next to never - she is 82 and she still - at that age - suffers stage fright.

She adopted that template from the 50's where you could "Sing, Act and Dance" Sinatra, Liza, Andrews, Astaire, Garland, etc...Streisand was one of those that could do it all. The greatest line in this song, or any imo... "The more I live, the more I learn... the more I learn, the more I realize...the less I know." The lyrics for this and the entire score were written by Alan and the recently passed Marilyn Bergman who Barbra has in her career recorded over 60 of their compositions, and the music was composed by the great Michel Legrand.
Barbra's ambitions at a young age were always to be an actress first, but when she couldn't find work initially [now in retrospect, thank goodness], and in order to survive on her own, she started to sing in small gay clubs in the early 60s and the rest as they say... is history! . But to this day, if you asked her, Barbra describes herself as an "actress who sings" and not the other way around. I chuckle when I hear today's Gen refer to knowing her through "Meet The Fockers" which is probably her least notable acting accomplishment, and find out that she can actually sing, and the concensus of many is she's the GOAT. But her acting goes much deeper than Roz Focker... in fact, her 1976 version of "A Star Is Born" imo, is much better than the most current iteration and a must see. Some of her other classic films, "Funny Girl," "The Way We Were," "The Prince of Tides," "Nuts," and "Yentl" showcase her dramatic talents as an actress, and "Hello Dolly," "What's Up Doc," "The Owl and the Pussycat," "The Mirror Has Two Faces" and "Meet The Fockers" showcase her comedic skills. She's just the consummate talent and it's so great that younger generations are learning about the world's 'greatest star'.

Amazing talent. Everyone talks about the greatest female vocalist ever and there is always a debate. What is maddening is that Streisand isnt in that debate many times. I dont know many voices that have the control, range and strength that she does and no one can hold a note like her. Acting, directing, producing, singing...she can do it all. She did it all in this movie. This movie was fantastic. Her voice is top notch in it. It wasnt a movie that had hit songs, but the soundtrack is outstanding. Barbra Streisand was born April 24, 1942. She will be 80 years old next month. Her first solo album was released in February 1963, and she took top honors at the Grammys, winning Album of the Year and Best Female Vocal Performance. Streisand has been winning awards and breaking records ever since. She is the only artist in history to have a #1 album on the Billboard 200 Album Chart for six consecutive decades (1960s to 2010s). If she can manage another #1 album this decade, she will extend that streak to seven decades, and would be almost unmatchable in my lifetime. She is known for that powerful voice and has over 60 albums to her credit. She's also starred in over 20 movies.
"A Piece of Sky" is the finale from the musical movie "Yentl" which Barbra Streisand directed. Streisand became the first woman to co-write, co-produce, direct and star in a major studio motion picture, as well as sing on the award-winning soundtrack. The original song score won an Oscar for composers Alan & Marilyn Bergman and Michel Legrand. The song is about never giving up following your dream: "What's wrong with wanting more? If you can fly, then soar. With all there is, why settle for, just a piece of sky?"

I recommend you to react to "Left in the dark" (Jim Steinman song), "With one more look at you/Watch closely now" (from the 1978 movie "A star is born") and her duet with Donna Summer : "No more tears (enough is enough)" (the original album version of 8 minutes, not the horrible edit/remix version everyone is reacting to). You are probably correct because when she sings you actually can understand every single word she says and you can feel all of the emotions of the song. She’s one of the best with phrasing and making every line have meaning. I am waiting for more of the young reactioners like yourself to discover her talent. Do more please. Try her “Somewhere” video. Perfection!

Very few people can sustain a 20 second note at full volume on a closed vowel. Barbra was one of the only few that could pull it off.

@@wengfong6742 I'm a singer with a music degree. That final note that she holds so impressively is not closed. The last word is "fly", which is sung with a full open throat as if one was singing "ah".

If you listen to woman in love . Her looooonnnngggg notr is in the middle but the whole somg packs a punch . For today's America . I would say where is the love ? / . Tbe Black eyed peas .Barbara has it all Natural stage presence for a singer and actor . Excellent voice ✌🏼 . I was kinda the same when q celeb is sticking finger in a every pie . Leave someone else a job 😂 but i don't mean Barbara Streisand . It is those ppl who do any film for £ and model and start a band off their other careers . When they are mediocre at them. Barbara could pull it off . Not everybody crosses over quite as effectively . ✌🏼

Anton, I like the way you analyzed this song. I saw this movie in 1983 I was 22 years old. This movie is about a Jewish girl that couldn't study in her country regarding religion and her losing her father and ciming to the U.S......on the other hand in reference to the song I would love to see your reaction tio her medley in her 1994 concert. It's the song from the movie and her singing on stage.....it will blow you away!!!
