Overhead for distance and/or precision. Anyone taking issue with your preferred method of casting - get a life.
I like overhead casting when carp fishing with my 10ft surf rod and bait caster reels. Those are also considered " no no s" with some of the European carp fishing communities!!!
The only ones ones that should take issue with anyone’s way to fish are the carp…
The over head cast when done right (a smooth motion, no whip jerking, etc) , allows a much longer cast with very little effort from the angler. Plus it dramatically increases the "horizontal" accuracy of the cast, if needed.
Thanks Dave.
Hate buggy days but lots of fish outweigh the pain for sure! Good day on the water
Hi Tom! Big romanian fan! :D when casting overhead you can be very acurate. Love your videos. You have such nice places to fish there! Keep up the good work!
Glad you enjoy the videos, thanks!
I have had really good luck with Thermacell seems to help reduce the amount of bugs. Definitely helps with mosquitoes, and cuts other flying insects down.
Thanks for the tip. I always have Thermacell in my bag. In my experience, it works good for mosquitoes and gnats, but has no effect on these particular flies unfortunately.
Vanilla essence is a natural deterent for flies and mosquitoes.
Good day at the fly hole tom! That first fish was on his way to becoming a giant. As far as the casting controversy . I would think we should master all forms of casting. I use the overhead cast for distance and accuracy . When I'm useing a spod I will cast my bait to the floating spod after it dumps. I just find I'm more accurate with an overhead cast in this scenario . There's only one way to get under over hanging trees . Side arm.
Key thing is to get the bait in the warter. Tight lines tom.
Yep, as long as the bait makes it to the spot, who cares how it gets there. I like that idea of using the floating spod as a marker.
Thank you very much,Tom! Is great, what you do) I hope to see in future more videos with underwater camera too. Good luck
I saw one yesterday that had to be over thirty pounds swimming around in the weeds around a pier that I fish on...
I of course had all my carp fishing stuff at home and only had a bag of rubber worms and dropshot stuff.
My biggest carp caught from shore around here was about 22 pounds and I have been carp fishing for about twenty years here.
Who knew? Angulation! nice word.
Tom as you say "each to his own".
Tom, I had the same problem with flies the other day so i took my electronic fly swatter. It worked great
😁
Electric fly swatters are f-ing awesome
Some nice fish Tom, bugs can be a big pain, we have face flys out here that get into your eyes, nose and mouth lots of fun. Good video Tom thanks
Those face flies sound pretty nasty, I wouldn't like that at all. Thanks David.
Are you anti-bug repellent? Seems a little better alternative to donning a sweatshirt in 80-degree weather...
First fish is a beaut! Nice catch!
Fact of the matter is the Euro anglers are spoiled by having heavily maintained 'venues' to fish from... those places are maintained on a level NO US lake or reservoir receives (except pay lakes maybe), they clear the brush, sweep each swim, groom the weeds, etc... let's see that overhand chop type cast on any lake that has brush, overhanging weeds, huge trees, hydrilla mats, etc etc.....
It's just a different world with different techniques. Personally, I wouldn't mind a nicely manicured bank once in a while. 😁
One reason for the European style of casting is their adding a batch of chum to one specific and precise location. The straight overhead casting ensures you will be spot on as far as left and right is concerned.
I can see how it would be useful in that situation.
I immediately thought, in this situation I would have thrown the fish carcass on the bank for raccoons & vultures and whatnot. Perhaps the smell of dead carp in the water would spook other carp? And maybe it would have served as a honey pot for the flys? Just some thoughts...
In my state, discarding dead fish on the bank is considered littering. Kinda ruins the spot for everybody else.
Great video as always. I do have a quick gear question if you don’t mind. It looks like you’re using the ugly stik rods. Are you using the XH action that have a 3/4-1 to 3oz weight rating correct? Thanks in advance…
My full gear list is in the description.
Awesome video. Always love to see your content specially when I'm fishing. 😂
Glad you enjoy it!
In England alot of carp anglers judge, sad really
Morning Tom, what is the hoop size of the net you use? There’s 3 different sizes available.
I'm not sure, the model number is in the description.
Love these vids tom
Glad to hear it, thanks!
Always like your videos...not trying to be rude..you looklike u lost weight bud 👍
Yes sir, thanks for noticing.
Another fishing adventure story by Tom. Nice fish!!! Thanks for all the details you share (you can keep the flies). Hahaha, cutting weight in the sauna suit, takes me back to H.S. days, now I just like putting carp on the mat. Bet you don't forget the cool green hoodie. Thanks for always keeping it real, and all the great camera work, makes me feel like I'm there.
Yep, learned my lesson on this trip. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks James.
Hello Tom,
the tigernuts I made are not sticky this way. What do you add to your recipe and how can I make it?
If you want them slimy, just let them sit out at room temp for a few days. Here is how I make mine ua-cam.com/video/HHeSq8qyMiE/v-deo.html
Hey what did you use to mount ur go pro on ur fishing net ? Looking to do that as well
It's a DIY mount.
Definitely worth the tradeoff with the flies the heat and smelly dead carp to have that much action.
It was a pretty good day!
You'll have to forgive some of our European carp anglers Tom, a minority are fanatical idiots who'll foam at the mouth if you're not doing things like they do. These fanatics are the negative side of the hobby here, just ignore them carry on enjoying your fishing how it works for you. Tight lines.
They can keep the snooty comments coming. Gives me things to talk about while I'm getting my baits ready.
Do you reckon they are jealous? When was the last time we had to fish all night for just one bite. Another good episode thanks. Oh as to the dead carp I would have given it to the furry critters. But then I'd rather feed coons, foxes and opossums than turtles. Just my opinion.
i feel like most of us in the states are less interested in casting 100 meters also most of my fishing is closer to shore and dont see the need to bomb them out but each to their own keep doing what you do tom it doesnt offend me to watch you side cast lol
😁
What reels you use if you dont mind me asking.
My gear list is in the description.
tom what ugly stick are you using length pound test rating and action
Full gear list is in the description.
Have you ever had a snapping turtle eat your pop up’s?
Probably.
How do you know if the carp fish is a female or male fish
Body shape mostly. Males tend to have a long slim build, while females are usually taller and more stocky. The vent holes look a bit different too.
Overhead cast is for europeans because we cast over 150m ... There's a reason why there is no american carp team in the worlds...
What is the reason?
@@OutsidewithTom Look at the comments about overhead casting and the overall knowledge about carp/casting.... no hate, just observing. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your content.
Thanks for observing. I just observed that there is indeed a USA team on the 2024 WCC list, and a USA team won it in 2015.
What means spaneing in carp fishing
The word is spawn. Look it up.
The casting thing is for distance and accuracy because we bait a swim instead of using pack baits as the only method to get bait in the swim and casting straight is the only way to hit the baited area consistently, another reason is because the fisheries in Europe are more pressured with fewer fish , I am ex Pat and fish for carp in Canada and I can confidently tell you you would catch many more fish if you pre bait a selected area then cast on it rather that randomly flinging it out ,but as you say each to his own ,whatever works for you.
I can certainly see how overhead casting would be useful for precision bait placement. That's not really something that I'm into, as my time is very limited and I prefer to get hooks in the water right away rather than spend time baiting and disturbing the swim at the start of a session. The places I fish are usually pretty far from home, so I rarely have the opportunity to apply bait ahead of time. Figuring out where the fish will already be feeding naturally is my preferred tactic, rather than bringing them to me with baiting. More than one way to catch a carp. Thanks for sharing your opinion on the subject, I appreciate it.
@@OutsidewithTom no problem and just to be clear I wasn’t criticizing how you do it because it works for you , the way I fish today would be hopeless back home but I probably catch more carp than most because we live in the lands of plenty and I fish a couple of lakes that are 70 miles and 45 miles long and pre baiting is your only chance ,but when they find it 20 fish a session is not uncommon.
Pre-baiting, also known as chumming, is illegal in many parts of the US, including where I live. 😢
@@troutheadadventures6521 yeh it’s different every where ,you can bow hunt carp ,and kill as many as you like ,in Ontario you can use three rods to fish for them but where are I am only one ,which is quite often all you need , there are so few people that actually fish for them it’s not an issue in a lake that holds millions of fish.
Awesome video Tom some great fish. What you should look into is a couple tent stakes with the big plastic handle to secure the butt of your rods.
Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks Lance.
You ARE cutting weight for a fight, all those 30+ pounders you're gonna fight and land this summer! Be well, Tom. ✌
I like the way you're thinking!
Man I've gone from having an amazing spring with catching carp to absolute skunk for the last couple weeks. I don't know what I'm doing wrong? I'm trying different spots where I know the carp are
They might be spawning in your area, or maybe they're feeding at a different time of day. Lots of variables to consider, those are just 2. One thing I do know, changing bait won't help anything. Keep trying different tactics, you'll figure them out. Good luck!
tom i love your evaluation of casting strait over head..made me laugh i agree 100%
