Jamie Raskin speaks with Ali Velshi about the ongoing discussions in the Democratic party surrounding President Biden’s future as a candidate after his disappointing debate performance. “There are very honest, serious, and rigorous conversations taking place at every level at our party,” Rep. Raskin says. “We’re having a serious conversation about what to do but one thing I can tell you is regardless of what President Biden decides, our party is going to be unified.” They also discuss the upcoming Supreme Court decision on Donald Trump’s presidential immunity.

Someone made the comment that Biden is lot better at governing than campaigning. If the media were to look at governing there would be no contest. But "performing" well in a debate is part of campaigning, like holding rallies is part of campaigning, and neither debates nor rallies have anything much to do with governing. But the media likes campaigning much more than they like boring old policy based governing because exciting campaigning draws eyeballs. Like all the cars that drive down the road are boring and only the ones that crash are exciting and make the news.

You need to campaign well to win an election. Winning is fairly important in this election. If you don't win, then it doesn't matter if you are better at governing than anybody on the planet. I understand your devotion, but speaking for many of my independent friends, they now don't think Biden is mentally fit for office, even though most like him as a person. I understand the diehards voting for Biden. But those who are looking at these things from the fence, some are undecided. Some even told me they may not vote, even though I tried to convince them otherwise. So it's not about the "Biden camp," it's about those voters who are going to actually decide the outcome.

Biden needs to do a televised Town Hall with Kamala at his side, answering people's questions and showing that they really are a team working together. This lets Joe be spontaneous and think on his feet without the pressure of having to argue next to a lying bully and restrained to a one-minute response. In other words, he will only accept if the vote goes his way; otherwise, he’ll foment a bigger and better insurrection that January 6 was merely a rehearsal for.
