This is my second time listening to you and you really do a awesome job of breaking it down so the people that are new to this stuff understands. Thank for being a great teacher and person!
Thank you for the video. Liked and subscribed. I'm having trouble understanding how to handle describing my images/alt text for Google on my affiliate site. I've read tons of articles about alt text and am still not sure how to handle describing my particular photos. And I don't mean I'm having trouble literally describing what's in a photo. I have a pretty good handle on that. Keeping it under 125 characters, being descriptive, etc.. More specifically, I have about five to seven images on each of my articles, and feel that most of them would be considered "decorative". For instance, I often use images of animals or scenic landscapes in my articles, which aren't directly related to my niche or the topic of the article they appear in. To be clear as to why I use these types of photos instead of all "on the nose" photos that relate directly to my niche is because frankly, I like the emotion and visual appeal that the animal and scenic photos inspire, and for me, because my niche is alternative health related, I personally think it would be very dull and boring to have all photos that were "on the nose" regarding the alternative health areas that I cover. And so I want to write alt descriptions for the images that I do use, but am not clear on what is appropriate in those cases. And by appropriate, I mean what may or may not screw up SEO and/or penalize me if I try to associate the image with my niche/content in the image description. Can anyone relate to this dilemma and not really being sure what is best?
Great question -- maybe I should do an updated version of this video because I have so much so say LOL -- So adding an image ALT text to all images is "best practice" especially when it comes to accesibility on a website. But coming from an SEO standpoint, if it's more decorative then the alt text isn't going to make or break anything. And to be honest, after working with dozens and dozens of clients, I'm yet to see someone not get on page 1 OR get booted from page one because they didn't optimize their ALT text perfectly. It's such a minimal ranking factor compared to other things (it IS important for accessibility though!) and there are probably bigger SEO priority things to focus on since Google ranks your site on over 200 factors. So, if I was in your shoes, I wouldn't stress about it. Add your SEO target keyword into an image alt text if it can naturally go in there, if not, it's not the end of the world. I have plenty of pages on my website that rank on page 1 and the images have zero alt text lolol obv that's not best practice but we also have to prioritize accordingly. Lmk if that helps :)
Thanks for the great video! How would you go about a wedding gallery with similar photos, You can’t use the same alt text “classic wedding photo...” on all the images right ?
I would suggest not doing that. The main reason for the ALT text is to give an idea of what the image is all about, so a URL doesn't really fit into the criteria. On the web, wherever your image is found, it should link back to your website anyways, since that's where it will be hosted. SUCH a good question :)
Solid explanation but clearly you are reading a script. Totally get it and what you said was solid. But if it's going to be a video you should be looking at the screen more often then every 10 seconds.
Hey! Thanks so much for your comment. I'm absolutely reading a script that I created prior to the video. I do this so I can focus more on presenting the information, then getting sidetracked, adding fluff, mistakes, and pauses. I'm glad the information was helpful, regardless of my eye contact :)
My dad does that. He writes a script and then says it to the camera so he doesn’t mess up and get unprofessional. I would usually do that to for my video. But good video.
@@MariahMagazine Hey, thanks for responding. I totally get it. I make help videos for work and they are fully scripted as well. I think your video would have additional power for it if your script was placed to allow you to look into the camera more often.
how many sentences would alt text be? how do you feel about phrases v. sentences v. two combo words? Should I use "3" or "three." ? What do you think of this ? - Group of three models pose at red carpet fashion event, Group of three models pose at up and coming fashion designer event,

LOVED IT
Thank you so so so very much! It was crisp and to the point.
Thanks
Very good video. It was very helpful
Very useful.
I was once told to put my url in the alt text, is this considered spammy?
I would suggest not doing that. The main reason for the ALT text is to give an idea of what the image is all about, so a URL doesn't really fit into the criteria. Thanks a ton
