I bought a arven rucksack back in 1978 at a army surplus for a book bag in high school over the years i took across the country, many camping trips finlay started using it again for caring gaming books in 2000 had in my truck because i was planning to go to a convention after work ,i was devastated when i got off to find my truck ransacked and the pack was gone. i never knew what the pack was called . saw this video back im April started thinking that arven pack looked like my old pack since i now knew the name i started researching learned about jungle packs, tropical packs, i finaly had enough info to buy a a replacement. thank you for helping me get my old friend back
Excellent review. Mine has a cotton webbing strap covering the lower horizontal frame of the pack. Also, they came with four straps for lashing on the side. Two per side. I’ve had mine for about thirty years and I just recently listed it on eBay. Very collectible pack.
My dad took one of these off a dead arvn soldier. He was a Marine in 68/69. It still today, has dried blood on the corner of one of the back pockets. He still packs pogey bait in it for deer hunts at 75..
Great review thank you for the content! I looked for one of these packs for a long time with no luck. I eventually settled for an early war indigenous rucksack also known as the Special forces rucksack, CISO rucksack, and or the CIDG rucksack. If you could get your hands on an Indigenous rucksack id love to see a review on your channel. Keep up the good work, big fan from Canada!
Thank you for watching the channel unfortunately I don’t have a CIDG rucksack in the collection at this time however maybe I’ll run across one . I think I have a cheap copy of one, I found it at thrift store one time. I’m not very proud of it. But it was cheap so I bought it. Thanks for commenting and watching these videos from Canada
I have this pack, to wear it I removed the frame cause on the weight and put a ridged foam pad inside the ruck to hold its foam and it worked well, after watching this I believe I will get it back out and use it. Good video
Great info I have 2 of these in my loft here in the UK picked them up years ago for my US Vietnam collection when I was serving in the British Army. Great pack very expensive to buy these days.
Please pass the closer straps behind the outer pockets. Thats why the buckles are unter the backpack. By the way, the kidney padding is missing. Best regards from Germany. I love your chanel.👍
If you are interested in a NEAR direct copy the US was trying with, the Nylon, experimental USMC 1967 pack was closer to the ARVN than any other ruck... Although being extremely rare, they are pricey
On second thought, that would make those "quick release" toggles a whole lot less effective. Plus I haven't seen any suspenders with corresponding velcro strips on them.
Can I buy a arvn pack from you? I keep losing bids and can't find one in my budget which is $160 dollars. Please I would love it if I could buy one from you.
This is the only Arvn pack that I have at this time however it is not for sale at this time. Good luck on your quest to finding one and thank you for watching the videos
I came across a pack roughly the same size as this pack but in nylon and with no outer pockets and no frame. Does anyone know what it could be? It might even be a tad smaller, hard to tell without having them side by side. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for sharing that story . I’m glad I could help
I think it is so bad ass when older gentelmen do youtube stuff. so much knowledge to pass. keep doing what your doing sir
Thank you very much for the kind words
I bought one of these from Supply during Reforger 75 at Wildflecken Germany. Sold it at Fort Hood a year later. Deros. A good pack, for about 8$.
$8.00 was a great price.

Very collectible pack.
Thanks for the information about the straps
Thank you very much!!

The velcros are there simply to prevent chaffing on the wearer's shoulders.
OK thank you for the information and thank you for watching
Although generally the Marines doubled up on padding with the M1941 shoulder pads and LRRP guys and rangers preferred STABO rig pads where available
I think it’s also partly so it stays on your shoulders better
Like to prevent sliding
OK thanks
I had a friend of mine that was a Grunt in 1970-71 Vietnam he said he would roll up his towel and run across his shoulders

Just saw your Great Video, on the ARVN pack from Vietnam. I was wondering where did you buy it from? I'm a Vietnam Vet and love to purchase one.

Yes they can be pretty pricey
I like this pack.
Thanks for watching it’s a pretty sharp pack
I would like to try one of these.
You would like it ,they are nice little packs, thanks for watching
Huge surprise todsy! Picked up one at a local gunshoe. Really nice condition, even has the name, unit, and base of assignment (Da Nang). $100
Wow that sounds great
Best guess, the velco was for sticking to ammo pouch suspenders.
Maybe
On second thought, that would make those "quick release" toggles a whole lot less effective. Plus I haven't seen any suspenders with corresponding velcro strips on them.
I think maybe some padding could be added for comfort
It sounds like a highly possible purpose
Do you have a video on the 728 USMC haversack combo
Not at this time
I will be doing some videos on the 782 gear , the M 1941 haversacks and knapsacks very soon
I would guess the velcro was to hold additional strap padding.
That very well maybe so. Thank you for your comment and Watching
Mmmmkay
I want one.
You might get lucky and run across one some day. Thank you for watching the web year review

@@WebGearReview I finally got one! I got it off of ebay! Frame and all!
That’s awesome I’m happy for you that you found 👍

That sounds interesting is there anyway you can send me a couple of pics of it?
@@WebGearReview that's possible, I'll have to dig it out.
Oh that’s OK don’t worry about it I understand
@@WebGearReview it's not buried deep lol. I'll get you some as I am very interested in trying to figure out what I have.
Well I’m not for sure if I could identify it but I’m interested in seeing what it is myself. Send pics to: thewebgearguy@gmail.com
