I am the original owner of my black 1971 Monte Carlo. I ordered it from the dealership with the 350 4BBL, AM/FM Stereo, Rally Wheels with G70 x 15 thin single stripe wall tires, the electric trunk opener , 4 spoke sport steering wheel, Automatic transmission, Power steering and Deluxe seat belts & shoulder harness. I paid $3735.00. Vinyl top and A/C put the price over what I had saved, so who needed them. I still own it today and drive it every time I can after restoring it in 1984. I will never sell my Monte.
Same here... they will be sitting here in my apt parking lot for the best thief to take, unless the apartments impounds them first... When they find me dead in my apartment that is...No one in my family wants what they call Junk Yard Cars.
I own and drive 3 - '72's, one being a Monte Carlo Custom with the 402. Keeps the women with the golden shovels away, for sure! 1st Gen is all I have ever owned and driven since 1974. I care for nothing else, and people all time say I need to get rid of the Junk Yard Cars, and a guy I work with tells me I need to cut holes in the floorboards of them, because they are Fred Flinstone Cars. Nephew told me to never park one of them in front of his house.... Awesome Family.... I have.
5:40 - without the steering wheel wrap, that Is the exact interior as in my 1971 Monte Carlo. Mine had 350 4-barrel, TH350 auto and 15" factory Rally wheels. Exterior was Burnt Orange & black vinyl top. I loved highway cruising in that car. 55 to 75 MPH passing acceleration was almost instantaneous, and that long hood looked sweet from the driver's seat. My ex-wife totalled it back in 1989. I WISH I HAD THE CAR BACK!
I had a 76 monte carlo. It has a 305 2bbl, and a turbo 350 three speed automatic transmission. When I worked for Luby Chevrolet in the early to mid 80s, I did work on a 77 monte carlo with a three speed standard on the column.
Owned 3 of these in my younger gear head days, owned 70's and 71models, they all had the small block 350 with the quick slider on the middle console, that 400 turbo trans chirped the tires in all three gears with limited slip.
Anyone who owned any of the first generation Monte Carlos Knows how much space there was in front of the motor. My brother in law took an adapter plate normally used by tractor pullers and put another 350 in front of the first one and put another radiator in by moving the first one forward a little bit. The transmission was changed to an upgraded turbo-400. With 2 four barrels and a 700 cubic inch V-16 people very surprised when that thing was floored.
GM ads in the magazines used to advertise the SS 454 as an iron fist in a velvet glove, I had a friend that had a 76, all black, gave a nice ride but yes a CHEVELLE with new Sheetmetal just like Falcon/Mustang
They are all similar designs. But the roof, a and b pillars, Floorplan, rear fenders, and firewall are all identical between the 69 Grand Prix and 70 Monte Carlo 👍
A guy in highschool used to drive one of those. I think, it was his mom's car. Nowadays, it would be okay to drive one. Only an SS without the vinyl top would I even dare getting seen in

Apparently GM/Chevy came very close to offering the '70 Monte Carlo as a convertible also (which likely would have extended to the '71 & '72) but they decided not to at the last minute. I don't know if there are comparable 'Horsepower' shows for the '73-'77. '78-'80 or '81-87 Montes or not. I never see them at car shows; even all-GM!! I love the 1st gen MC, but also the 2nd gen which took the lines and curves of the 1st gen and 'brought them out' a lot more. I appreciate the 3rd gen for trying to retain the styling on a drastically smaller car, but it was kind of like a 5 year old boy trying to wear Daddy's clothing and shoes. I also didn't care for the (frankly) droopy rear quarter, trunk and un-Monte Carlo taillights. The 4th gen had the gentler lines of the 1st, the trunk and taillights of the 2nd, and the nimble size of the 3rd, but with a fresh look all its own.
I previously owned a 1970 Monte Carlo it was like that marina blue bottom with black vinyl top blue interior it was powered by a 350 cubic inch motor however the transmission was a three three speed manual on the column and no power steering it was ordered that way from the factory let me tell you it was a beast to steer lol no power options
Had a 71 in 85. Now I have a black on blue on black 72 MC custom and drive it every chance I can, weather permitting. The SS was not an option in 72. Chevrolet decided to have a 'Custom ' option for every engine size available. It rides just as good as it looks. Original 350 block & tranny, rebuilt. Interior mostly aftermarket but it's all good. Time, talent & $ went into this one. I only supplied the $. 🤣I'm a fair to poor mechanic! 🤣✌
@@seanbrooks9308 I may just do that. It's a rainy weekend here in the Memphis area. Give me by the end of the month and I'll post one. I'm just not too much into these social platforms. Commented on the Ford vs Dodge. 62. I had a 70 Monte Carlo. 350, 300hp. The sticker on the valve cover said Towanda? Must be where it was made. But! I traded a 70 Buick GS for it.. 455 ram air. Lol. I kick myself every time i think about both of those cars.
In those days cars were pretty bare bones all the car companies gouged people on Options because that is the way new cars got ordered you would sit in the salesmens tiny office booth usaually with a sliding glass door and the process took up most of the day because the salesmen would have to keep asking you what you wanted to order while he tried to explain these features & how they functioned & why you needed them & the cost & why your basic model is now creeping into Cadillac or Lincoln price territory again this is how they made their money packages option groups were not mainstream yet like they are today this is how they made their profits & talked buyers into cars they really could not afford you thought you were going to get that new car special in 1971 for the advertised teaser price of $ 4.295 but what happened now your pushing $ 6.900 my god what is happening well this is where you should stand your ground & walk out but they twist your arm And start playing with numbers and tell you hers what we can do they take away a few frivolous options and even try & steer you to a different model sweet talk you in the mean time you have already been exposed to that addictive new car smell and your hooked and your on a payment plan for the next 48 months at what seems to be a softer price but not really you just signed a contract on the same car for even a higher price then you first balked at you should have taken the first price if you had to really have the car or you should have walked you were in controll you are always in controll not them
The Monte was pretty bad with the 454, the car it was based off was badder. Uncommon knowledge, the roof, fenders, and internal structure of the 70 Monte were all adopted from the 1969 Pontiac Gran Prix. Gm considered it to be technically "full size" so the 400ci inch rule didn't apply. The 69 Grand Prix JS could be ordered with the high compression 428HO motor, and weighed about 150lbs less than a similarly optioned SS396 Chevelle hartop. They didnt make alot of them, but it was nasty for 69.
1 of the most beautiful cars ever built and I own a 72 😜
