This is a tricky topic for me. My primary focus right now is decluttering, which is related. I am accepting that my particular situation in my life right now with my two children with special needs doesn’t jive well with “no buy” but I think we can figure out our own version of this. Also, I am a lifelong “maximalist” who longs to be a minimalist but it’s not in my nature. So there’s a lot of soul searching, acceptance, problem solving, etc. bubbling away in my brain on this matter.
Love it. I know. What have we done to our oceans. 🌊 Eeck. I’m going to consider making as much as I can going forward. Much better for our health as well. 🤗❤️🤗❤️
First on my no buy list, anything associated with 45. Second, use the crafting supplies I have and not buy anything new. Third, eat less fast food and meal prep more.
Shop the perimeter only of grocery stores (along the walls) for the 5 food groups: Dairy, bread, meat, vegetables… all the processed foods are on the inner shelves in boxes! Also I give baby gifts wrapped in receiving blankets, use diaper pins to close, use rattles, teething toys as decorations instead of bows. If the baby is a girl, I will use good ribbon to be saved and used later in her hair or wedding bouquet. Everything is useful. Also, should a gift come in wrapping paper, save the paper and use it ito line your dresser drawers. Thank God I was raised by Depression Era parents who saved and reused everything!
We are moving, so right now I’m cleaning out belongings and I’m over here cursing the amount of stuff I’m not taking with me. So even though we will be buying a house and furniture I’m definitely going to be more conscientious of buying nonsense.

Karen, I agree with you on your thoughts. Never, did I think that 45, was actually shot at. The whole thing was staged. There is no way blood stops that quickly. It would have been dripping all over his clothes. So very sad that others were injured, and the one innocent person killed. I pray the truth comes out. I am a Pisces. Spiritual, and I pick up on a lot that’s going on, that others don’t. 45 is evil. There isn’t anything, that’s good about that man.
I agree - 100% staged. The following day they have pictures of him going out golfing, no bandage on his ear and no marks on his ear. It's stunning that they still want us to think it was real. I feel sorry for those who WERE injured or killed, though - it sucks when your hero makes sure you're killed off just to make his own story look believable.

I think for Christmas 2025, I will use alternative wrapping, like cloth bags that can be reused over and over again. Maybe I'll crochet some too. Hmmm. i wonder if patterns even exist for this! Have to check it out!
LOL I have bins and bins and large garbage bags full of yarn. I said to myself NO MORE YARN until i use up what I have. I will only buy FREE books on my Kindle and when I can't buy free, I will buy used or use the library app.
I shop at places that treat their employees well and don’t put local businesses out of business or avoid taxation. For me, Amazon, Home Depot, and Walmart are a hard pass. I shop local whenever possible and I do shop at Costco because they treat their employees well. I prefer to spend my money on experiences these days, I have enough stuff already.
We've stopped wrapping presents in my family and circle. We don't even have an expectation of presents for everyone. The latest "policy" is-no presents expected but if someone wants to bring something that's fine.
I was going to make 2024 my no buy year but pushed it back to 2025. My list is very similar to yours. I do have a tip that might help some, just like when I went cold turkey on mainstream media, I erased all my news apps on my phone … I plan on erasing all my shopping apps and putting my store cards away (the TJ Maxx one is going to be painful). I’ve done this before as well - I go into a store and I’ll get a shopping cart and shop the entire store and return the cart empty to the rack. I guess that would be the equivalent of an alcoholic going into a bar and not buying a drink. I (like you) enjoy going to thrift stores, but I rarely buy anything anymore and mostly donate before I walk in the store. That way in my mind I have to consider that I just got rid of a bunch of unused and unwanted things from my house so I don’t turn around and get MORE stuff. I want to become the WINDOW SHOPPING QUEEN ™ 😂 Over shopping is a bad habit and they say when you give up one bad habit you replace it with another. I’m going to try and replace it with a good habit - like walking (even if it is just in a department store).

When we DID shop, we shopped at our local stores so they did just great . There were no Amazon or Sam's Club or whatever. It was so much less stressful

I am 76 and have finally reached the area in my life that I really HAVE mostly everything I need to live comfortably….(if I have to think about it for any length of time), I don’t believe the purchase would be a NEED. I try buying reused items, elimante single packaging, repurposing items for great gifts, and continuing with using my own cup and bags. I use oils for lotion and saves on smaller, more expensive lotions. I buy used books. Make simple homemade gifts and place gifts in a recycle bag. (Hin for that person to stay away from plastic.
I'm always on a low buy/no buy list. I also only buy laundry sheets and no to low plastic options. Be careful with grove if you make sure your cart is empty until you're ready to order it's safer. Laundry sheets club has the best laundry beads and dryer sheets.

We have tried very hard to stay away from amazon for a long time, with nothing to do with 45. We do not like how they treat their employees. I don't like their work practices and it just feels like supporting that kind of work environment will never make the company change. However, this year we decided to not buy clothing, shoes and electronics. For us and our life style, we don't take vacations or anything like that. But another thing on our list was a new car, which we had been thinking of purchasing since our current vehicle is over 20 yrs old.. Surprise surprise though, today we found out that the vandalism done to our car over the fall by some teenagers (they did "something" to our gas tank)- those repairs are going to cost more than the car is worth... so we have now decided a car is a necessity because the bus system in our area is unreliable. YES, use the library! You can even rent audiobooks from the library now. I try to utilize ours at every step. I love the library. We are also going through a major de-cluttering. Our apartment, which we have lived at for 11 years has no storage. So we are renting a storage unit. But we definitely do not need anything else for the kitchen or home now. Those are the changes we have agreed upon.
We need to STOP the contributions to politicians!!! They get a salary and great healthcare and they need to do the job of representing the people and governing a democracy! If these businesses would use the money to lower prices and support the community such as libraries and shelters what a wonderful world this would be.
This year we had very little Christmas wrapping paper and after using it up we wrapped all remaining gifts with non-Christmas black and white paper. I may continue this for future years and only buy paper that is truly recyclable or reusable and can be used for all gift-giving occasions. As for 2025 goals, I plan to minimize our spending across the board and continue to work towards simplifying my home with less stuff in general. It’s been a work in progress goal of mine for a few years. I’ll also be utilizing the Goods Unite Us app for any necessary purchases I make.
I have decided to not buy any tech in 2025. I will wait, for many reasons! New batteries are being developed, for one thing. I have a tendency to buy lots of stuff on Amazon, because I live in a small town with not much shopping here (there's a Walmart, which I have always avoided because I don't like Walmart). As for clothes, I need new things, but I sew, and I like to upcycle things into redesigned stuff.

I have been boycotting Starbucks in McDonald’s due to their support against Gaza genocide for over a year. Home Depot also contributed big time to 45 so I get everything from Lowe’s. I do have to add more things to my list for next year but it’s all doable.

Do you recycle your packaging? I take my overwrap, grocery bags, etc to a grocery store. We have a recycling service that comes every other week. Our county also has several recycling days for tires, appliances, any thing with a cord, styrofoam, cardboard, they shred, and household paint and chemicals. It’s wonderful.
@CatMom6Plus. . . .I do the same however recently I've heard that some supposedly recycled item really AREN'T RECYCLED. So to reduce the amount of packaging period, in this country is sorely needed. Big Business and even little business need to wirk on that.
Very focused on real needs, not wants. Small businesses, hopefully woman, minority, LGBTQI+ owned, and/or supportive of progressive causes. Groceries from nearby Latino markets. Thrift, resale and consignment shops-there are several nearby. I live about 3 miles from a Penzey’s, so will be visiting there when I inevitably run out of garlic powder. 😊 Gifts, when necessary, from local artists and artisans. In re: gift wrap-I have gone to using (and reusing) gift bags. I am still using some I have had for years, trading back and forth with friends and family. I buy almost no processed food either, due to food allergies and sensitivities. Anything that comes in a jar, I save the jar to reuse for storage.
I do home and gift small business buying a lot on Etsy. Granted, I don't know if I am buying from a 45'er, but for now, I'm ignoring that (unless it's obvious by what they sell, eg, a tee shop with 45 stuff). I boycotted Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby years ago, so that's easy. I hear 45 things about both Home Depot and Lowe's, so will check the app (I just downloaded Goods Unite Us). Definitely my goal is to minimize Amazon purchases, and Wal-Mart - I'll find somewhere else. Didn't know library usage impacted funding (makes sense), so good to know! And oh lord, the books on my shelves I've not read yet....
We didn't throw away any wrapping paper. We had a dysfunctional Christmas. Only one thing got wrapped. I was mad because people were being asses. Everyone expects me to wrap everything up. I don't mind when people have good attitudes. This year a couple of the guys were bullying another family member. Totally dysfunctional! 😵💫

Oh how funny… My daughter is in blanket freak. She just cannot resist a nice fuzzy, comfy blanket, especially from Costco or Sam’s.😊👍❤️
This year we had very little Christmas wrapping paper and after using it up we wrapped all remaining gifts with non-Christmas black and white paper. I may continue this for future years and only buy paper that is truly recyclable or reusable and can be used for all gift-giving occasions.
As for 2025 goals, I plan to minimize our spending across the board and continue to work towards simplifying my home with less stuff in general. It’s been a work in progress goal of mine for a few years. I’ll also be utilizing the Goods Unite Us app for any necessary purchases I make.
Where i live you no longer can get a plastic bag at the register when you shop. Meanwhile everything you buy is wrapped in plastic. Makes no sense.

I have decided to not buy any tech in 2025. I will wait, for many reasons! New batteries are being developed, for one thing. I have a tendency to buy lots of stuff on Amazon, because I live in a small town with not much shopping here (there's a Walmart, which I have always avoided because I don't like Walmart). As for clothes, I need new things, but I sew, and I like to upcycle things into redesigned stuff.
I agree we waist a lot of paper and plastic. You can bring your own cloth bags to the stores. And there are ways to store potatoes and onions in cool dark places🙃I would have to read up on that.

I get what you mean with buying because you love, I’m a quilter and I don’t need to buy more. I plan on mot buying anything for the whole year, I will be able to continue making quilts with every thing I have stashed for probably a couple years 🤣🤣
I have been boycotting Starbucks in McDonald’s due to their support against Gaza genocide for over a year. Home Depot also contributed big time to 45 so I get everything from Lowe’s. I do have to add more things to my list for next year but it’s all doable.
We use to wrap presents in the funny’s section of the newspaper-I miss that!!

Do you recycle your packaging? I take my overwrap, grocery bags, etc to a grocery store. We have a recycling service that comes every other week. Our county also has several recycling days for tires, appliances, any thing with a cord, styrofoam, cardboard, they shred, and household paint and chemicals. It’s wonderful.

So to reduce the amount of packaging period, in this country is sorely needed. Big Business and even little business need to wirk on that.
Very focused on real needs, not wants. Small businesses, hopefully woman, minority, LGBTQI+ owned, and/or supportive of progressive causes. Groceries from nearby Latino markets. Thrift, resale and consignment shops-there are several nearby. I live about 3 miles from a Penzey’s, so will be visiting there when I inevitably run out of garlic powder. 😊 Gifts, when necessary, from local artists and artisans. In re: gift wrap-I have gone to using (and reusing) gift bags. I am still using some I have had for years, trading back and forth with friends and family. I buy almost no processed food either, due to food allergies and sensitivities. Anything that comes in a jar, I save the jar to reuse for storage.
I do home and gift small business buying a lot on Etsy. Granted, I don't know if I am buying from a 45'er, but for now, I'm ignoring that (unless it's obvious by what they sell, eg, a tee shop with 45 stuff). I boycotted Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby years ago, so that's easy. I hear 45 things about both Home Depot and Lowe's, so will check the app (I just downloaded Goods Unite Us). Definitely my goal is to minimize Amazon purchases, and Wal-Mart - I'll find somewhere else. Didn't know library usage impacted funding (makes sense), so good to know! And oh lord, the books on my shelves I've not read yet....

We didn't throw away any wrapping paper. We had a dysfunctional Christmas. Only one thing got wrapped.
I was mad because people were being asses. Everyone expects me to wrap everything up. I don't mind when people have good attitudes.
This year a couple of the guys were bullying another family member. Totally dysfunctional!

Even though I have wanted to enjoy a "Chick Filet" --- Once I head that they do not support LGBT, I never allowed myself to spend money there. I don't want to support someone who thinks that thinks a class of people should not be supported by the company themselves. I am sure I am not alone on this.
