Shell vs Petronas vs BHPetrol: Which Gives You The Most Mileage?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лип 2023
- So we are putting an end to this legendary debate about which fuel gives you the most mileage. To do this we secured three Honda City's from Honda Malaysia, got them serviced to ensure all cars ran on new lubricants so drag resistance is the same. We also ensured that tyre pressure was the same and then hit the road tackling different terrains. All of this just to finally answer the biggest debate among motorists, which fuel takes you further?
#Shell #Petronas #BHPetrol
I'm a scientist and have done fuel development for most of my life. Fuel economy testing is the most difficult challenge during fuel development. What was done here is quite meaningless, because the conditions were not controlled. The variation between cars is generally bigger that the expected fuel economy differences.
Hybrid cars are the worst choices for differences, because the complexity of the drive train introduces too many extra variables.
In-car fuel consumption measurement systems are approximate and in no way sufficiently accurate.
BHP has no fuels R&D.
Shell claim 15km more per tank, not per liter.
From a scientific perspective, this data is insufficiently accurate to draw any conclusion!
A side comment: Please drive safely, don't block the middle lane, when not overtaking!
Thank you for your comment. We didnt want a controlled environement since we were not coming up with marketing claims. This was more of real life conditions where all cars traversed the same routes at the same time. The cars were also equalised as much as possible in terms of engine wear, tyre conditions, fuel in the fuel line, etc. And yes hybrids are challenging hence why we chose to use 3 of the same cars and swapped cars so as to minimise any impact from a driver’s preferred driving style. We tried to minimise everything from a real world perspective. It’s nothing that would impress a scientist but we did not set out to do that. Thank you but We stand by our content and the efforts of our team.
@@PistonMalaysiathanks for taking the time to look at my comments.
The only way to determine differences between these fuels would be in a controlled environment, where all variables are minimized as much as possible. What is measured there is direct transferable to the reality. Real world condition will not give you meaningful results and could mislead consumers and good journalism should protect consumers.
I’m happy to have a discussion with you guys over a tetarik, to give you some more background.
@@FuelExpert We would love to! Please drop an email at keshy@piston.my, it's always great to be listening and learning from field experts. Thanks again.
@@PistonMalaysiau can compare heat energy from those 3 brands by doing burning tests in a controlled environment. This simple test if it's done carefully and repeatedly, can give u reliable results.
@@SYAFIQIZZANYEPROPthat doesn't necessarily translate to real world results. those are calorific values, ignoring cleaners, friction modifiers & other additives
Finally i found it what i want for this channel ... i love it and i will hope u do for another car test not a hybrid also such as proton cars, toyota and many more...i really love this kind of experince test tq for make it this video i already subscribe your channel keep it up doing this 👍
My car fuel consumption is similar on most fuel brands. So my decision is based on loyalty points, convenience. Which gives me better value, I'll stick with it
So which one you choose? Petron?
Petronas?
@@shudoy9386 Petronas, Shell and occasionally Caltex
Thank you for trying your best. Other than testing in a lab dyno, this is the next best thing
Glad you like it! Thank you for the support.
Shell is always great, even in my Proton, I can pour RM 20 and travel close to 150 kms!
My saga vvt fuel consumption
Bhp 23km/L
Shell 21.4km/L
Petronas 19.6km/L
Highway driving 90&100km/h speed range almost 600km with one (40L tank)
Wow! Same result as us.
Kudos to Keshi and team for this great work. Shout-out to HMSB too!
Thank you so much.
i have done this kind of test with my Myvi AV 2023. Full tank for Petronas/Shell/BHP/Petron.. what I can say for each brand is:
Petronas gives the cleanest fuel for my engine but not the longest distance
Shell cannot prove 15km through my driving experience, but the pump nozzle is fast.
BHP, I won't use this brand for my car after testing it. Slow reaction.
Petron give me an average driving experience, accelerate quite good but my mechanics said better to not use this fuel for my car.
my mechanics claimed that petronas is a better fuel for my car engine if we use Syntium as an engine oil as well. Overall. i stick with petronas
Myvi use perdoua engine oil right instead of petronas?
My Kia Rio YB 6speed saiz rim standard 16inci tayar 195/55/16 Michelin energy saver, full tank 45L, RM80 petrol dapat jarak pemanduan hampir 700km,
now upgrade rim 17inci standart-tayar MC6 205/45/17 - petrol RM70 can go range 550-580km only ☺️😅 why coz rim 17 is so heavy under 11kg for 1 rim.
Always guna Petronas petrol coz ada rasa power and torque. Sometimes sahaja guna shell.
Anyway nice content bro and team 💪🫰.
Thank you! Drive safe!
my CBR always use Petronas cause of the Setel App. 2 days ago decided to try out Shell cause wanted to test out their new App. Shell App quite disappointing but the fuel I could feel my bike is lighter and more responsive especially at mid to high RPM. Not sure about the Fuel consumption though cause haven't use until empty tank
Shell Asia is the worst apps ever. Only can link with debit/credit card, no topup e-wallet like setel. Then, only can pay fix amount, cant change the amount (kinda sucks for me). Take time payment to be approved. Still cant beat Setel apps.
Once a colleague of mine also said BHP gives more km/L, so I tried it on my 2019 Almera. Personally I felt BHP ron95 made my Almera even more sluggish that I need to push the paddle deeper resulting in bad FC...
That's interesting feedback. Thank you.
What petrol you use right now
Ohh i really hope this include Petron since petron is one of the most popular choice in malaysia these days
We did not include Petron in this because it is not as widely available as the three brands chosen for this comparison.
@@PistonMalaysia I am surprised to hear that BHP is more accessible than Petron
Most of Grab driver choose Petron and why because less visit to fuel station.
To make it more scientific you should:
1. Drain the fuel at the start. I doubt the tank was empty at the start
2. Weigh the car before fueling
3. Weigh the car after fueling
4. Weigh the car after the trip
Reality though, all fuel come from the same distribution point in Malaysia. I would say the variable is based on how a person drives and additive blends. How 'hard' one presses, verocity of pedal presses during corners, how much you brake, etc. All are variables.
I would say, just use 1 driver for same journey for all car/petrol
@@maibrat2104 the host said the car has adaptive auto cruise. they should have dabbled with the settings and used it all the way through the journey.
@@AFAR2809 aaahhh... That seems fair too
@@maibrat2104 We swapped cars throughout the journey so no car was affected by the different driving styles.
@@AFAR2809 That sounds good but impossible to produce over the duration of the test. While adaptive cruise control was available, it did not have stop and go function, which means the driver still had to intervene in certain situations, deeming it redundant to rely on adaptive cruise control alone.
Personally, on my FLx and Mazda 6 , Shell is the best when it comes to range..
But that's what this video is all about. To put it to an end once and for all. Just basing it on one car and different routes will always give you different results. So hence why we took 3 cars, all serviced, all same tyre pressure, and all with a single passenger, and on the same route. We tried to eliminate all variables so that there was a level field.
It just means.. All are more than good enough, and whatever difference you see, its too small to be significant...
@@nabillarif But then again, minor Insignificance do add up if you were to view it on a Macro level.
having owned 3 cars for the past decade and only feeding all of them with BHP fuel ❤
6:40 its 15km more per Tank not per litre
Yes that is true. Per tank and not per litre.
How about Caltex? I find my Honda City 2017 performance is much smoother on Caltex. Next preference is Petron.
There arent as many Caltex stations these days so we left that out unfortunately.
Right...petron can be trusted
Caltex made my Honda city sluggish. Have to press more for power. Caltex burns a lot of petrol. Petron stays longer
Similar test results gotten out of a 2014 VW Polo Sedan 1.6 MPI tested during lockdown aka minimal traffic
Average full tank RON95 test results after multiple rounds of testing
BHP/Caltex ~550-600km/tank
Shell/Petronas ~500km-550km/tank
10% drop in mileage is also observed in my 2008 CRV 2.0L for Shell and Petronas. Needed to call out Shell for Fuelsave 95 as a scam in their marketing tactics. Had a friend working in Shell Finance. Mentioned that it's all about the additives, and Shell is shelling out poor quality fuel esp RON95. Didnt mention about RON97 😂
tq🎉
I choose petronas just because Setel app. It's just very convenient to just pay from my car before i fill in the fuel
CaltexGO also apps for Caltex.
Not sure though on this review. I really like the channel and the honest reviews but my argument can be BHP is the sponsor for this channel. So it can be biased
Good point but BHPetrol is no longer the sponsor. 😅
Where is caltex
I wonder why caltex is not included..tq
We wanted to include something easily accessible and besides, the team at Caltex can be notoriously difficult to reach out to.
Good video. But I would suggest more, to exclude those uncontrolled variables, what you could do is do a round trip like this.
1. Start from each brand petrol station, with full tank petrol, use the same petrol dispenser kiosk, refill until clicked, no overfill etc.
2. Reset trip odo, and Start the journey.
3. Return to the same petrol station, same kiosk, refill again until clicked, get the total odo travelled divide by total litre of fuel poured in.
I think that's how to get better measure on km/l. The computer reading I would say it really subject to how the computer calculate the readings.
Thank you, we will try that too
How about shell VS caltex?
Caltex better
Petronas not gonna like this video and BHPetrol sure will like share and comment this video 😂 but petronas have Settle that keeps their user stay, Shells with Bonuslink card member
legend has it, white car consume less fuel than other color car.
Time to hit the road again to test that claim 😅
@@PistonMalaysia yeayyyyy!!!!!
Fact. White color reflects more light and heat (IR) from the sun. Cooler car = less air cond running time. Same result when you install a car window tint with high total solar energy rejected (TSER).
@@donnyyeo Yes that is factual, but the impact on fuel consumption on a moving car is minimal. It is significant on a stationary car.
it depends...when the sun is behind the white car, the solar reflection gives the white car a push lol
Don't really understand why bhp range 427km, but 443km for shell and its better ?
Basing it on the KM/L, BHPetrol provided more KM’s per litre despite the computer giving a further range. Could also argue which fuel provided more range but that would have meant driving till the tanks were empty. 😅
Blaze100 not bad.
Just saw the PDS that Blaze 100 is 15% MBTE by volume. Simplistically speaking, it could be 85% RON 97 add 15% MBTE to create Blaze 100 😂
@KeefeLoke I stopped using because 97 and 100 not much difference for my car :)
I use Shell fuel brand before now i change it to Petron fuel
