If you hike alone, make sure you don't get lost, it's not the most pleasant experience: ua-cam.com/video/xgkuWegiEbQ/v-deo.html

I definitely agree with you. Hiking alone means that you can go at your own pace. When I was hiking with other people some of them would complain if I couldn’t keep up with them (I’ve just recently started hiking again) so I feel that if I’m alone I can go at my own pace. It’s also peaceful too especially if you’re in the bush. I too have anxiety and depression and I find that walking and/or hiking helps me a lot.
I love watching your hiking videos - the scenery of the walks, whether coastal, in the bush or in the city, are just beautiful ❤

Agree with a lot of what you said. I have gone out with groups a couple times and they seem more interested getting from point A to point B and not pay attention to the trees, flowers and rocks etc. along the way. I like to stop, take pics just sit and take it all in. I have a list of hikes and I can wake up one morning and decide I'll do this trail today and be on the road in less than an hour. Hard to do that if you have to co-ordinate with someone else.

I love the freedom of being able to drive off and find a remote trail. I don't rule out joining a group sometime, but the trails I'm doing now are fine to do on my own so I enjoy this time.

I can relate to your reasons to walk alone in the bush. I have done some day walks by my self, these walks were all off track as where I walk there are limited tracks. In August / September I intend to do a multi day walk, about seven days, again off track and with no phone service. I have done this walk in the past with a group so I know the area. Keep up the hiking and venture out to multi day hikes, you will love it.

You are very brave going off track, Peter! I feel quite safe hiking solo on marked tracks but I would need to improve my navigation skills in order to go off-track... It must be so peaceful though, alone for days on end... I have some way to go before I go on overnight and multi day hikes, need to learn camping skills and get more gear!

I know what you mean about feeling like you are in the middle of nowhere when within walking distance of the city... I felt the same way when I did the Bondi to Manly walk. At many points on that walk I felt like I was somewhere remote despite being in the middle of the city. :)

We're very lucky in Sydney, it's easy to feel miles away... and you can do both bush walks and coastal walks...

I hike alone in the Blue Mountains if you want to learn a few trails up here let me know. I am not a chatter box so like to hike alone or the chatter I find exhausting.

I agree that the constant chatter is exhausting... After a whole week of talking on the phone to people, I like my peace and silence...

Why hike alone? Why wouldn’t you hike alone?

I think both options work well... but I really enjoy hiking alone at my own pace
